To think all children activities should be cancelled on Wednesday?!

I'm hoping so! They should cancel or at least rearrange Brownies/martial arts/gym/swimming, etc!

Either that or lots of parents having to nip out at half time!

It's a historic event, kids should be allowed to watch!

You do have the option not to attend......

PurpleDaisies · 09/07/2018 19:24

Historic event? Really?

LittleBearPad · 09/07/2018 19:24

You don’t know brownies and swimming isn’t mandatory. Just don’t go HmmConfused

I volunteer at Brownies. We spend a lot of time arranging activities for the girls. We have childcare for our children on Wednesdays so that we can run the club. It's not as simple as just rearranging - the hall isn't available other evenings and we have our own lives too.

If you want to pull your kid out this week that's up to you. It's not up to volunteers to arrange their lives around what you want.

MissMiserable · 09/07/2018 19:26

I know some activities are considering not running......

EveningHare · 09/07/2018 19:26

Why, What's happening on Wednesday?

Redglitter · 09/07/2018 19:26

Historic? It's a football match and "shock horror" not everyone is interested in it

EduCated · 09/07/2018 19:27

If you’re not taking your kids to activities on Wednesday, please do let the leaders/coaches/whoever know in advance.

scaevola · 09/07/2018 19:27

This is where I am suddenly terribly popular. Because I don't really watch the footie, so will happily ferry for other people, thus storing up lots of favours in return.

MN has quite a lot of posters who are very sneery about being interested in footie. If MN is representative of RL, it might not be difficult to find someone to help out

(The snag in that suggestion is however rather large and shouid be blazingly obvious)

RunMummyRun68 · 09/07/2018 19:27

Historic?? It's not even the final...

Oh fucks sake really
Do what you want with your own kids
Mine couldn’t give a shiney shit about a team from a country they don’t even live in

AuntieStella · 09/07/2018 19:29

My running club is curtailed (still going ahead, but promo event cancelled, as low numbers expected). This thread has reminded me to make a mental note to check on the day

JumblieGirl · 09/07/2018 19:29

What about those that don’t like, watch or play football? Opt out if you want to, but don’t spoil other children’s pleasure by letting your game dominate their week.

masktaster · 09/07/2018 19:30

What if parents or children don't want to watch it, for whatever reason?

Why should they miss out on their fun activity/child free time

Notcontent · 09/07/2018 19:31

You are joking, right OP?!?!

Wiifitmama · 09/07/2018 19:31

I have zero interest in football and despite having a husband and 3 boys, none of them do either! It is the gala performance for my kids music ensemble on Wednesday evening and I am hoping it will be much less busy in the audience as a consequence of the football. But there is no way I would want it cancelled.

Waitingonasmiley42 · 09/07/2018 19:31

What a joke! Just don’t take your chicken to these optional activities. Many many people don’t give a fuck about the football so ridiculous to suggest they should be cancelled.

emmaluvseeyore · 09/07/2018 19:32

I’m a Brownie Leader and I’m glad the match isn’t on my meeting day. We’re doing an adventurous activity this week, and one of the schools my Brownies go to has decided to put on a disco at the same time as Brownies. So I’ve gone through loads of effort to organise this activity and do all the related paperwork we have to do, and then half my Brownies decided they wanted to do the disco instead. I’ve already spent probably 3 hours sorting this, so I’m not going to rearrange anything! I’m suffering with low mood at the moment, and it really makes me sad that I’ve gone to all this effort and then a school event is more exciting.

Please do think about the leaders of these activities and how they’re going to feel when you essentially tell them that a football match is more important than all the effort they go through to put on these fantastic opportunities. Also consider that they may want to be watching it too but don’t want to cancel due to all the complaints they’ll get from other parents if they do!

JumblieGirl · 09/07/2018 19:32

What time does the game start? Should I brace myself for half the class having sudden medical appointments or family emergencies on Wednesday afternoon?

JumblieGirl · 09/07/2018 19:33

No chance Wiifit. They’ll all be on their phones during the performance, multitasking dontchaknow?

CluedoAddict · 09/07/2018 19:35

Historic event Hmm. It's a group of men chasing after a bag of air.

MiddlingMum · 09/07/2018 19:37

What a lot of nonsense. Watch it if you like, pull your children out of activities if you want, but don't expect anyone to re-arrange anything. Most activities are either run by volunteers or by low-paid staff, why should they pander to your whim to watch tv instead?

If you pull out of an activity, make sure you contact the leaders in advance to apologise and explain. Failing to do this would be very rude.
