To think all children activities should be cancelled on Wednesday?!

I'm hoping so! They should cancel or at least rearrange Brownies/martial arts/gym/swimming, etc!

Either that or lots of parents having to nip out at half time!

It's a historic event, kids should be allowed to watch!

Im sure our "sparing a thought" for them wil help them through their suffering shark. Likewise we should "spare a thought" for the starving children in Somalia and Yemen when we eat our matchtime snacks. Hmm

Or else we could actually actively do something to support people/the charities close to our hearts in our everyday lives and enjoy the match. Hmm

And if you hear the sounds of fighting/dv from your neighbours tonight or any other night, ffs call the police.

BarbarianMum · 11/07/2018 12:34

One too many Hmm there I feel. Sorry.

DontMakeMeShushYou · 11/07/2018 12:44

Shark Hmm

Why would it not be relevant to mention that DV increases when England plays in the World Cup on a thread about England playing in the World Cup?

likeacrow · 11/07/2018 12:45

YABU.

PortiaCastis · 11/07/2018 12:53

Why does a football match give carte blance to moronic drunks that trash other people's property

Sharkwithknees · 11/07/2018 12:54

DontMakeMeShushYou
Nice of you to bounce the question back instead of actually answering.

Because world cup is NOT the problem. DV is. I say this as a survivor of domestic violence. To make out the world cup is the problem is fucking ridiculous and quite frankly, fucking insulting.

likeacrow · 11/07/2018 12:55

People keep mentioning the "sneery attitude" of non football fans, but honestly the bad attitude seems to be mainly directed in the other direction, bc apparently we are boring/dull/negative/bitter/jealous if we just don't give a shit either way about this particular sport...

BarbarianMum · 11/07/2018 12:55

Um, it doesn't Portia What makes you think it does?

Sharkwithknees · 11/07/2018 12:55

BarbarianMum spot on

Sharkwithknees · 11/07/2018 12:57

likeacrow of course it's not everyone. Some of my friends aren't bothered and that's fine. There have been a lot of sneery comments though. Obviously not from every non-WC supporter.

Hushhush89 · 11/07/2018 13:02

No they shouldn't cancel activities... if YOU want to watch it then make your children upset by taking them out of it for the evening but I don't see why clubs should be cancelled just because football is on, not everyone is bothered about it...

I for one hate the sport and can't wait for it to be over with (tonight)

Sharkwithknees · 11/07/2018 13:08

likeacrow see hushhush's post for a classic example 👍

Icanttakemuchmore · 11/07/2018 13:09

Good grief op, get a grip, get a life!

PortiaCastis · 11/07/2018 13:11

What makes me think it does oh well let me see, the ambulance that was trashed by morons in London the taxi that was trashed in Nottingham the large screen tv that was trashed in our local my car being vandalised for starters.

BarbarianMum · 11/07/2018 13:22

That shows that these things happened. That's not exactly the same as the people who do them being given carte blanche to do them now is it?

Sharkwithknees · 11/07/2018 13:24

It's not the football fans that do this. It's the ones that like to go out, get smashed and act like twats. There are a greater proportion of them out in world cup obvs. Ffs people, stop blaming the world cup for these things! It's not the football to blame, it's the twats! It's like you want to give them a scapegoat/excuse Hmm

arghhhhhhh · 11/07/2018 13:37

@Sharkwithknees agree. Knobheads are knob heads regardless of wether they like the footy or not. Some knobheads do like football. Some dont. Some love rugby. Some love the antiques fucking roadshow.

And guess what? There are some complete wankers out there that hate football but are still guilty of domestic abuse......

Ridiculous posts on here.

But anyway shark, let me know what you plan to vandalise tonight after watching the footy and we can compare notes 👍🏻

DontMakeMeShushYou · 11/07/2018 13:48

Because world cup is NOT the problem. DV is. I say this as a survivor of domestic violence. To make out the world cup is the problem is fucking ridiculous and quite frankly, fucking insulting.

Well I agree with you there. But DV incidents do rise when England play in the World Cup and whilst jokes about getting drunk and smashing things up might not be triggering for everyone, they are for some of us.

AlecTrevelyan006 · 11/07/2018 14:09

There is a presumption by many of the non football fans on here that all children would rather do their usual Wednesday evening activity than watch England play in a World Cup semifinal.

I’m sure there are some kids that will be disappointed but there will just as many that are excited about the match and looking forward to watching it.

There are plenty of Wednesdays and very few World Cup semifinals.

Sharkwithknees · 11/07/2018 14:12

DontMakeMeShushYou
Because a higher proportion of the wankers will be out on the drink, it's fuck all to do with the football! LIKE it's higher at Christmas, shall we blame Christmas? You are stooping really low to try and make your point that you think football is evil, pathetic.

DontMakeMeShushYou · 11/07/2018 14:30

We clearly have different experiences, Shark. You obviously feel mine are not as valid as yours.

You are stooping really low to try and make your point that you think football is evil, pathetic.
I said it wasn't a historic match and that DV incidents increase during the World Cup. I don't think football is evil or pathetic. I shall be watching the match tonight with my family and we shall be supporting England along with much of the rest of the country.

RancidOldHag · 11/07/2018 15:18

Some shops (which normally stay open until 7ish) are closing early today. My friend - who says she's never known this to happen before - has been told by her chain's Head Office she can close up at 6:30, and she said others on that street may be closing from 6:00 onwards.

So if you were hoping for some quiet evening shopping today, check!

UnimaginativeUsername · 11/07/2018 20:23

DS2 has just been to swim training, which was on for the kids who wanted to come. There were 9 of them there. The main coach wasn’t there and there was no pressure for anyone to attend (the other coach was working anyway and said she’d do the session). DS2 would have been gutted if swimming was cancelled because of the football (even if any of us were going to support England, which we’re not). He loves swimming.

DS1 is a Beavers leader and Beavers is on tonight for those who wanted to go. Lots of the boys did. But some will have decided to watch the football instead.

Why should there be a mandatory shut down for everyone? None of the people involved in the activities tonight we’re going to watch it even if it were cancelled.

chocolateworshipper · 11/07/2018 21:59

All activities going ahead as planned on Sunday

ItsNachoCheese · 11/07/2018 22:05

No cancellation of any activities on sunday
