To think all children activities should be cancelled on Wednesday?!

I'm hoping so! They should cancel or at least rearrange Brownies/martial arts/gym/swimming, etc!

Either that or lots of parents having to nip out at half time!

It's a historic event, kids should be allowed to watch!

OP posts:
thegreylady · 09/07/2018 20:14

It’s not the final though. If it was there might be a point here but it’s just another football match isn’t it?

SleepingStandingUp · 09/07/2018 20:15

OP you're getting a hard time.

I agree. They should cancel so we can all be together as a family and watch it.

Similarly they should allow all the emergency services, hospital staff etc to go home or at least watch it in work. Emergency operations can wait for a few hours. Criminals will be home too watching it, fires will likely burn themselves out eventually. The sick and infirm don't need regular checks anyway.

I also think trains and buses should be cancelled - we'll all be home anyway right?

No take out, unfair in delivery drivers.

Shops could close just for a few hours and put a telly in the staff room.

Mandatory viewing for anyoen English, fines if you're found out on the street during the game.

How about that?

halfwitpicker · 09/07/2018 20:16

Whats happening wednesday

JumblieGirl · 09/07/2018 20:19

I like the way that Wimbledon held their ground and said they wouldn’t be changing the scheduling of the Final to fit in.

HyacinthsBucket70 · 09/07/2018 20:20

Historic event - men kicking a ball round a field Hmm. Seriously......

Kaykay06 · 09/07/2018 20:21

Scot here (well parents English but oh and kids Scottish) on holiday in England visiting parents as school hols started already and were subjected to it the other day as it seems my mother has turned into a die hard football fan overnight was hilarious listening to her shouting at tv etc.

Pleased they won but actually don’t care much, kids decided to support England for the day and we all had a nice enough afternoon. But if they had clubs or school or prior arrangements when the match was on no way would they not go to watch a non historic football game it’s not the final and I’m sure in 50 years people will have forgotten especially if England loses it’ll be never spoken of again. The final yes as we will never hear the end of it Grin 😂 but do like how everyone seems very patriotic and coming together over it, even if they aren’t fans normally.

Racecardriver · 09/07/2018 20:21

My children have nothing on on wedbrsday. Obviously they still won't be watching. I thank god every day that they have zero interest in it.

chocolateworshipper · 09/07/2018 20:22

What about those that don’t like, watch or play football? Opt out if you want to, but don’t spoil other children’s pleasure by letting your game dominate their week.

This.

Oh, and obviously make sure that you don't take your chickens anywhere on Wednesday

ReservoirDogs · 09/07/2018 20:23

Well rather sensibly DS's sports coach (not football) has asked via group page who will be attending on Wednesday as too few would mean the training would not be worthwhile. Subsequently training is cancelled but we would have just stayed home if not. I think it was a sensible move by the coaches so as not to waste their time, or maybe they were hoping people would pull out so they could watch.

Bit rough on OP because the majority of the people I know will be watching and I suspect perhaps it is the same for the OP .

Raspberry88 · 09/07/2018 20:23

Well I say that it's historic...I presume everyone here has heard the date 1966, that's because winning the world cup was historic. This is only the third time that the England football team have got to the world cup semi finals, so pretty special to lots and lots of people.

JellySlice · 09/07/2018 20:23

Just because you don't like it, it doesn't mean others don't.

Even among those who like it there are people who feel dropping everything for it is wrong.

Knittedfairies · 09/07/2018 20:25

Historic? No it isn’t. Take your children out of Brownies, or swimming or whatever but don’t expect people (many of whom are volunteers) to rearrange their lives to suit you. Historic 😂

NotTakenUsername · 09/07/2018 20:26

Historic event Hmm. It's a group of men chasing after a bag of air.

This is such a clever and original comment.

DiegoMadonna · 09/07/2018 20:26

Where I live schools were even closed for the group games!

QueenofLouisiana · 09/07/2018 20:27

I run a similar group to those suggested, we meet on Wednesday. As the activities were planned months ago, I won’t be cancelling the meeting. I won’t be rescheduling as I actually do other stuff for myself on the other days of the week.
I have emailed my parents offering the option of an early pick up (not compulsory, just an option). So far, about half have taken me up on it.

percheron67 · 09/07/2018 20:28

What a load of tosh! By the way, it is "an" historic event not "a" historic event to be precise. Hardly "historic" anyway - just overpaid men kicking a ball about.

raisedbyguineapigs · 09/07/2018 20:29

Our cubs group did a poll asking who was going to attend presumably to gauge whether it was worth cancelling. All the kids wanted to still go to cubs 😁 The final would be historic. We were in the semis in my lifetime!

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 09/07/2018 20:30

FFS. If you’re into it, watch it and enjoy it, but don’t expect the rest of the world to come to a standstill for it. I feel sorry for the kids upthread who have performances changed or postponed to accommodate those who think watching football is more important. Hmm

DiegoMadonna · 09/07/2018 20:31

By the way, it is "an" historic event not "a" historic event to be precise

Nope, sorry.

The times, they are a-changin'!

Fluffyrainbows · 09/07/2018 20:31

I genuinely have no idea what happened in 1966. It's only the semi finals and yes it's nice they won but to many of us football is neither interesting nor important.

AppleKatie · 09/07/2018 20:32

I run a kids activity, fortunately not on a wed. But if I did I think I’d cancel or try and arrange to watch it during (actually that’s my preferred option), would also put on other activities for any who don’t want to watch.

I didn’t cancel for a group game that did clash but this is more exciting I think.

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 09/07/2018 20:34

Historic, nah don’t think so.not a big deal. My kids don’t do activities so no change

CanineEnigma · 09/07/2018 20:34

i genuinely have no idea what happened in 1966.

Just as well you’re not sitting the Life in the UK test for citizenship then.

Kahlua4me · 09/07/2018 20:34

Dd goes to drama on Wednesday and they have just rung to ask if it could be brought forward by an hour so that’s everyone can get home in time...

Fine by me either way, we won’t be watching! 😀😀

chocolateworshipper · 09/07/2018 20:37

Don't be silly fluffyrainbows - it was the year that The Beatles played their last ever concert
