To think all children activities should be cancelled on Wednesday?!

I'm hoping so! They should cancel or at least rearrange Brownies/martial arts/gym/swimming, etc!

Either that or lots of parents having to nip out at half time!

It's a historic event, kids should be allowed to watch!

If you aren't taking a child to Cubs/ Brownies etc, please give the leaders advance notice so they can make appropriate amendments to their plans.

(Really annoying buying excess stock for an activity to cover your maximum expected number then finding out that there's a anticipated reasons why children aren't attending. Especially if you have to round up multipacks. The left overs can be a pain to store and not necessarily a useful quantity.)

DitheringBlidiot · 09/07/2018 21:03

I’m planning to go to the gym on Wednesday at exactly 7pm in the vain hope I will have the place to myself!

Glumglowworm · 09/07/2018 21:04

@Ariela I’m sorry I misread your post please ignore me! Blush

@clumsyduck oops! Sorry! Thanks for pointing it out, I misread it!

funinthesun18 · 09/07/2018 21:04

My child’s club rearranged the time on Saturday so that people could watch the match. I don’t think anyone collapsed with shock at the prospect.

AnneElliott · 09/07/2018 21:05

We're still running beavers, although we finish at 7pm. I expect most parents might want to make a quick getaway!

bella2bella · 09/07/2018 21:13

I have something on every Wednesday at 8pm, I wish it was cancelled as I want to watch the football but I will go as it's a responsibility I have. Kind of with you OP!

gillybeanz · 09/07/2018 21:15

lots of parents having to nip out at half time!

Wtf is having to? Nobody will make them and they'll look twats anyway.Grin

MrsJBaptiste · 09/07/2018 21:18

I have zero interest in football and despite having a husband and 3 boys, none of them do either

Thank you! I honestly thought it was just my family that were like this. DH is interested in how England are getting on but would much rather be sat out in the garden than watching football on these gorgeous summer evenings. It definitely isn't the be all and end all if they lose. As for my two boys, not interested in football at all. It's great! 😁

SummerGems · 09/07/2018 21:19

I’m guessing it’s lighthearted. Either way the responses have been way ott.

LotsToThinkOf · 09/07/2018 21:26

So many 'cool' posters who claim they don't know what's happening on Wednesday, despite there being a mention of it about 5 posts in Hmm.

Watch it, don't watch it. Don't sit there judging the communities who choose to move planned events to allow people to have to option of watching. There's no harm in communities deciding what's best for them.

hellokittymania · 09/07/2018 21:27

I don’t have a TV, I just go by how loud the cheering is outside. I was in Italy though, when they won the World Cup in 2006. Nobody slept all night! I watched the last World Cup final at 4 AM in Singapore at my friends coffee shop.

Anyway, if you’re very interested in the games, you don’t have to send your children. And anyway, who knows, brownies might be doing something football related, you never know.

starzig · 09/07/2018 21:28

You would rather your kids watched sport than participatedHmm. Besides, would child not get bored watching telly for nearly 2hr solid?

speakout · 09/07/2018 21:32

I would not have known there was a football match on Wednesday if it were not for this thread.

I live in a football free home.

clumsyduck · 09/07/2018 21:33

glum to be fair I misread your reply at first too I though woah they were video recorders in 66?! Grin

Raspberry88 · 09/07/2018 21:37

You would rather your kids watched sport than participated.
Well it's important to do both if you're interested in sport, you need to watch professionals...it's a bit like saying that your child shouldn't go to a concert because they should be spending the time practicing an instrument.

TSSDNCOP · 09/07/2018 21:37

Well I’m not going to sneer at the men running after a ball in a field, but I think there are a lot that aren’t interested or would prefer to go to their activity. YABU, but if your kids don’t want to go fair enough, just let the organiser know sooner rather than later.

GerdaLovesLili · 09/07/2018 21:41

It is a bit odd isn't it? That those of us who don't really care one way or the other about football are expected to a) know what's happening on Wednesday and b) Change our activities and arrangements to fit in with those who do care. And, that being baffled by this makes us "sneery". I wish the team well, It's certainly been a statistically interesting tournament, but there does seem to be a faux religious fervour about it.

TemptressofWaikiki · 09/07/2018 21:42

Good grief! Get a grip OP, it's not the finals FFS!

clumsyduck · 09/07/2018 21:44

I think it's more the " I have no idea what's going on " attitude that people are raising an eyebrow at. I cannot think of many things more boring or as far removed from my life as tennis . I know it's Wimbledon though

kateandme · 09/07/2018 21:45

ive heard some fans want the tennis matches changed too!ffsand they were praising bobby Charlton for sitting through the whole amtch when the game was on.oh do get a grip

GerdaLovesLili · 09/07/2018 21:47

I know it's Wimbledon though

Yes, so do I, but I don't know when individual matches are.

I have a sneaking suspicion that something cycling related is happening too.

Orangepear · 09/07/2018 21:47

I didn't know it was on until seeing this thread. Why is it important?

Iceweasel · 09/07/2018 21:47

Ask your kids what they would rather do. If they are not going to attend scouts or sport or whatever is on, then let the leaders know.

There are many kids who don't care about football, and they should not miss out on their activity because some other kids don't want to miss a game. If volunteers running activities decide to cancel because football is important to them then fair enough.

clumsyduck · 09/07/2018 21:48

Fair enough but I mean there are posters ( on other threads too ) who claim to not know it's the World Cup at all ! come on

WellThisIsShit · 09/07/2018 21:49

DS school are bringing forwards the school play by an hour so it finishes at 7:30pm instead of 8:30.

I think it’s a good compromise, as it recognises that you can’t just demand people behave in a respectful way or honour previous commitments when that’s just not the mood of the country.

The ht is recognising that there will be many parents who won’t come by the sounds of it, and there will be many children who also won’t be turning up, making the show really difficult to go ahead for the others, and for those that do turn up, there’s likely to be a lot of surreptitious screen watching in the audience.

Hopefully this means people can hold off and rush out to catch the second half...

Still leaves me with a problem. I’m disabled and need a ‘helper’ to help me get in and out of the school show venue, drinks at interval (stopping me over heating is really important), and then helping me collect my son after... but my helper that day is an avid football fan and I don’t think he will stay now England is through.

So I’m screwed.
