Sister is having Christening right after my due date

Had to NC for this as I could be outing myself here.

Sister has been going on about how important it is for her for the whole family to be there at her son's christening. She's now just WhatsApped everyone in a group chat, saying that the event will take place 2 days after my due date.

This is my first child and so I told her, it probably wouldn't suit as I would either have given birth by then or risk going into labour. She's refused to change the date despite the fact that our brother can't make the event either.

She's texted me back expecting that we'd be there (me and DH), and if not, we could just transfer her the money for the food in case I'm giving birth. After the ceremony, she's booked a dinner-thing at a nearby restaurant, and would expect me and DH to pay £65 each even if we can't make it!

AIBU to think this is extremely cheeky? Our parents have expressed that they think my sister is in the right and that we might as well go if I haven't given birth!

I've never been asked to pay for my food at a christening.

None of the guests have been asked to pay except the OP because she may not go, from what I understand

There IS no food at Christening.

There is often a party afterwards. And if you invite people to a party, it is usual to provide them with food and drink, paid for by yourself.

£65 each for a meal? Are you kidding?? Who TF pays £65 a head for food? Is she hiring Heston Blummenthal to cook individually for you all? That's just f*cking silly, on that basis alone I'd tell her where to get off. If it were me, I'd go to christening if not given birth because unless you are 100's of miles away from your birthing place of choice, there's nowt to say you couldn't hoof it outta there and get back if you went into labour. AND I'd completely turn down the meal (just fkg stupid price) I recently went to a christening and to a resteraunt for a meal afterwards, I was assuming THEY were paying for the meal, they didn't! Surely they should provide food afterwards, not expect people to attend and then cough up? You don't go to a wedding and pay for your own wedding breakfast afterwards!! I think she's being VU and a CF to boot!

My contractions started a few days before my due date. I managed to get out but hardly eat. Baby came on due date...

I have never ever heard of people paying for a christening meal... and especially not £65. As other a said. Christening followed by tea and sandwiches in a nearby place or at home. It's a tine to welcome someone into the church. Unless the child is 16+ I can not see a reason for a big slap up meal.

How old is your nephew? Is there a special reason she is rushing it knowing when you would be due?

Tell her you won’t be coming to the meal regardless as you’re saving to feed the guests at your own child’s christening Wink

ohhhh or you could have some fun with it, say no to the meal and yes to the church and once there start making mmmmmm noises every 10 mins and gasp every few mins grit ya teeth a bit and rub ya sides and back a lot, and then as soon as it finishes you and hubby race off and jump in the car and drive away really fast... (and go home) if anyone asks later just say braxton hicks

Yea, fuck everyone else in the Church that day and the person conducting the Christening.

It's an important Ceremony, not one to have the piss took during it.
