I know I know. We should enjoy it but oh my god, I am so uncomfortable.

I've hardly slept for that past 3 nights. I feel irritable and headachey.
My living room is currently a toasty 29 degrees and that's with a huge fan and all of the windows open.

Please tell me I'm not alone with not loving a hot UK!
And before anyone says about all of the snow we had, I would much rather have that. Much easier to warm up than it is to cool down.

I feel like I'm the scrooge of summer!

I left work early today as it was so hot and muggy I just could not think straight. We have no air con and can't open the windows more than a crack ['elf n safety' as we're on the first floor].

I feel angry tired and irritable. I don't mind being hot and sweaty when I'm outside running or doing the garden, but not when I'm in the office tying to be professional.

As long as it rains now and then stops again in time for our family holiday the day school breaks up...[when it usually starts raining 10 minutes after the kids leave the school gates, and then rains for the following 6 weeks!]

ginghamstarfish · 09/07/2018 23:07

Was lovely here this morning, cloudy and cool ... then a bit of drizzle. Went out and walked round the garden in it, it was great. Sadly the sun was out again by lunchtime 😥 but it's a bit cooler this evening.

Nousernameforme · 09/07/2018 23:12

Don't worry I've ordered new fans due to be delivered early next week. So it's sure to return to arctic temperatures shortly after that.
You are all very welcome Grin

wagil · 10/07/2018 01:26

My Dyson fan has saved my sanity this year, I have it on the lowest setting, angled up onto my face as I sleep and it's very quiet. My other 5 fans aren't coping at all.

DH, who said "HOW MUCH?" when I bought it admits he was wrong.

jellyshoeswithdiamonds · 10/07/2018 01:39

Here in Wales we get way more than our fair share of rain, gloomy, cloudy days so I really don't begrudge this current run on sunshine.

YummySushi · 10/07/2018 02:01

Ladies put a freezing water bottle infront of ur fans to get air conditioning effect

LookAtThatCritter · 10/07/2018 04:02

YANBU but YABU if you then spend 9 months of the year complaining about the cold Grin I think we all forget how miserable it is most of the year once it gets a little too hot! That being said England isn’t equipt to deal with the heat - where I live (southern US state) all houses have AC which makes it more bearable - if heatwaves continue it may be worth investing Wink

givemesteel · 10/07/2018 04:52

We need rain. It's just not coming is it.

My dh got sunburnt over the weekend and now seems pretty ill with heat stroke (or technically heat exhaustion, according to the NHS, he doesn't need to do to hospital).

It's difficult to have a house that's geared up to both cold winters and hot summers.

If I had shutters, air con, tiled floors etc this would be lovely. But I have a south facing house which the sun just beats down on all afternoon so the bedrooms at the back are like a furnace and thick wool carpets.

FurryDice · 10/07/2018 05:31

My Dyson fan has saved my sanity this year,

My Fucking unbelievably expensive Dyson cool link has developed a hideous annoying high pitched whine and it runs out of warranty in October. So that’s £450 down the drain. It was amazing to start off with. Now it’s just an expensive annoyance. I’m so cross.

CakeRattleandRoll · 10/07/2018 05:35

I'm in Australia, so just out of curiosity, how hot is it actually? It's the middle of winter here, 21 degrees and sunny, but we are all wearing jeans and jumpers, unless actually outside and sitting in the sun. Certainly no fans or air-con on, but will put the heating on this evening.

My youngest was born in Feb, so I did my third trimester in temperatures that were regularly over 35 degrees. And yes, a lot of it was in air-con places, but certainly not all - my oldest was 2 and would have gone bonkers being inside all day.

FurryDice · 10/07/2018 05:49

But your house does have air con for when it’s needed @CakeRattleandRoll?

Nousernameforme · 10/07/2018 06:31

You will put the heating on at low 20s and wear jumpers? You can't cope at cooler temps anymore than we can cope when it's warm.
It depends on what you are used to.

Tumbleweed101 · 10/07/2018 06:33

I’m enjoying it.

House has a nice air flow so stays cool and my job means I can get outside a lot of the day and splash about with water.

LanguidLobster · 10/07/2018 06:48

@RoryGillmoresEvilTwin oooh you little darling, thank you for the Hammer House Horror vibes, temp has dropped and skies are grey

Picklesandpies · 10/07/2018 08:03

Fuck yes, I absolutely hate the hot weather we have had recently. I've had horrendous morning sickness and just doing a five minute walk up to school is enough to make me want to be sick. It's disgusting. Way too humid and no relief from it even at night. Fans blowing hot air around the room but better than nothing. Today seems a bit fresher thank goodness.

SlartiAardvark · 10/07/2018 09:28

My dh got sunburnt over the weekend and now seems pretty ill with heat stroke

Self Inflicted Injury... He'd be on a charge in the military.... Wink

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 10/07/2018 09:33

FurryDice contact Dyson, their customer service is excellent

morningconstitutional2017 · 10/07/2018 11:49

I hate this heat and find it so tiring. I expect it'll bring on a return to early morning naked ironing, won't it?

I actually feel that if it rained I'd go out into the garden and dance in it.

CakeRattleandRoll · 10/07/2018 13:08

Yes, my house does have air-con for when it's needed, although not in the bedrooms. My best tip for coping with hot nights is to go to bed with wet hair and a towel covering the pillow. And keeping a very active two year old inside for days on end was not really an option, air-con or not!

I agree that it depends what you are used to. But I'm not complaining about the weather here, and I certainly wouldn't say I'm 'not coping' - I'll just put on a jumper and turn the heating on.

And I'm genuinely curious - how hot is it over there??

Helendee · 10/07/2018 13:10

I bloody hate it, I hope it snows from September until April!

CurbsideProphet · 10/07/2018 20:32

Air con surely makes a huge difference. I don't have it in my car or house, so I have no escape from the humid air. Asthma and migraine central here Angry

Tansie1 · 10/07/2018 20:46

I am loving this weather. As much as anything, because I know that, give it 6 weeks, and we'll all be moaning about 'This is supposed to be summer?' as it rains continuously for a month (usually August).

The bright sky and sun makes people smile.

OK, I admit I work (PT) in an environment so cold we wear fleeces, but it's also quite dark, so we don't see the great orb of wonderment, 8-6. However, on my days off, I am climate aware- I open one side of the house, close the other, and change, as the sun swings around. My loft hatch is permanently open so hot air rises; I open lee-side windows. This will be one month in 2018, remarked upon like 1976 is.

By this time in 2 or 3 years' time, we will all talk of 'The 1m of Rain' that fell last winter, or whatever.

You can't be taken seriously, as a Brit, moaning about the shite weather, if, once it delivers- you moan.
