To have had enough of this weather!

I know I know. We should enjoy it but oh my god, I am so uncomfortable.

I've hardly slept for that past 3 nights. I feel irritable and headachey.
My living room is currently a toasty 29 degrees and that's with a huge fan and all of the windows open.

Please tell me I'm not alone with not loving a hot UK!
And before anyone says about all of the snow we had, I would much rather have that. Much easier to warm up than it is to cool down.

I feel like I'm the scrooge of summer!

PS- hot and pregnant is another matter- my two were Queensland, Australia, babies! So I do get it!

But it's one season.

melse2964 · 10/07/2018 20:58

Just take advantage of it coz soon it’ll be Freezing and rainy and miserable

SadieHH · 10/07/2018 21:07

It's been bloody lovely today! A good strong breeze and dropped to about 22. I've been grinning all day!

Blerg · 10/07/2018 21:13

I think people must experience heat differently because I am genuinely baffled by people enjoying the hot weather. I loathe it and find it horribly uncomfortable. That anyone would like being sweaty and sticky two seconds after a shower, too hot to sleep, to have to apply disgusting sun lotion or feel the sun crisping and aging your skin, have bad tempered sticky grubby children, have no stylish cool clothing options, to make everything outside feel like the weight of a thousands suns is beating down on you amazes me every year. But each to their own I guess.

I must add I never ever moan about Winter. Even when we had ten days without heating or hot water in January it was better than this.

lololove · 10/07/2018 21:36

I have hyperhidrosis, I sweat profusely even in darkest deepest winter and never need a coat (a hoody does at the worst of it) or scarf/hat/gloves.

This weather can sod off, my blood feels like it's boiling at the best of times, it's like a literal kettle fizzling away around my body right now.

I long for winter! I'm still hot but at least it's not 4324 degrees outside making me even hotter.

[also - my granddads care home STILL has the heating on full in this weather....!!!!!!]

Yesterday, I ate my lunch in a park in my business suit Sad.

Today, I ate my lunch in my garden in my birthday suit Grin.

We are supposed to get the sun so we can stock up on Vitamin D to help us over the Winter. However, it is so hot that dh(82) and I (74) can’t cope with the heat so are stuck indoors and can’t even manage a trot round the block!

eggandspoonrace · 15/07/2018 16:51

its showing no signs of going away, we've still not had ANY rain in weeks now.

Aragog · 15/07/2018 17:02

I love it. My joints are so much better for it. Yes, it's hot and a bit sticky but I'm trying to slow down (another factor probably helping my joints) and not rush so much.

At home I keep as many windows open as possible and prop doors open to get done form of breeze and air flow. And I keep curtains pull a bit so the full sun doesn't hit it, especially bedrooms. No fans, no air con but it's not been too bad. Friends house at weekend was worse for the heat inside but there were far fewer windows to open, and doors were kept shut for various reasons.

Aragog · 15/07/2018 17:08

And yes, I get cold before bed especially my feet and hands/wrists. Icy cold water on them. Makes a massive difference.

I hate winter and cold and snow - it's so painful for me, as it can be too when it's very wet. So dry and warm is so much better for my health re arthritis, and my general mental health just seems better even the days I have pain still.

Dh's mental health is always greatly improved by hot weather. Always has been. He really hates cold, dark and wet.

Teen dd is a hot weather lover too. Those too way more than me / my ideal is probably mid 20s, theirs is high 20s/early 30s.

However I suspect the rain and cooler weather will start soon - school holidays start her on Friday! I predict six weeks of rain and grey miserable weather like our normal summers always seem to be.

Aragog · 15/07/2018 17:13

I'm also teaching in a bit shook with the tiny m, only slightly opening windows. My computer room is like an oven most of the time. I'm avoiding turning the computers on unless we have too am- they seem to generate several more degrees. The iPads appear to generate far less so we are using them much more!

No air con anywhere in school; everywhere is very hot.

But I'd still rather deal with that than a normal summer of miserable rain and cold, and having all the plans for day trips and sports days, etc thwarted.

Bluelady · 15/07/2018 17:27

At last we're getting a decent summer and people are moaning about it. I hate to tell you this but I've just checked the long range forecast and, apart from the odd shower, it's sun all the way to mid October. Hurrah!

9amTrain · 15/07/2018 18:29

Of course people are going to moan about it if they don't cope in the heat. It makes a lot of people feel ill. Sunshine doesn't bring joy to everyone...

I feel like I have SAD but caused by summer, not winter! I feel so lethargic and ill when it's hot enough.

I feel like my body temperature is 10 degrees above your average person at any time of the year. I have a lower tolerance for heat, overheat and sweat at the first sign of it, and if people are sitting or lying next to me I make them so hot they have to move. If someone sits on a chair I've been sitting on they're like WTF ... because it's boiling. Grin

So yeah, that's why I don't like summer in more than tiny amounts.

SadieHH · 15/07/2018 18:44

That's exactly it. I feel like I have SAD too, brought on by the heat. I get terribly depressed between April and September. Literally counting the days till autumn. The only good thing about summer is that when you're actually in it, it's not coming it's going. Otherwise I'm treading water till it cools down and I get my energy back.

ALongHardWinter · 15/07/2018 19:13

I'm with you OP. I've had enough of it now. I've got nothing against fine summer weather, but 31 degrees (which is what it is where I live today) is just too much. It's been going on too long now. One day last week,it was 24 degrees, with a cooling breeze, which was lovely, but the next day,it had shot up to 30 again. My concentration is shot to pieces,I'm doing stupid things like walking out of shops without collecting my change,or leaving my shopping on the counter. I'm making stupid mistakes when I'm typing texts or emails, and I'm doing daft things around the house, like forgetting to shut the freezer door. And even worse is that I feel like I can't breathe properly. I don't suffer with any sort of respiratory or lung problems but at times I feel like I'm struggling to get enough air into my lungs. It's like I'm trying to breathe in soup rather than air. And the state of the grass! OMG it's all yellow and dead. I know it will recover once it gets some decent rain again, but it looks awful, and is a fire hazard,it's so dry.

ALongHardWinter · 15/07/2018 19:16

Meant to add,and no,you won't hear me moaning when it's cold! I can cope with cold weather much better than very hot weather.
