To have had enough of this weather!

I know I know. We should enjoy it but oh my god, I am so uncomfortable.

I've hardly slept for that past 3 nights. I feel irritable and headachey.
My living room is currently a toasty 29 degrees and that's with a huge fan and all of the windows open.

Please tell me I'm not alone with not loving a hot UK!
And before anyone says about all of the snow we had, I would much rather have that. Much easier to warm up than it is to cool down.

I feel like I'm the scrooge of summer!

I may not be able to appreciate everyone's point of view because I am in the NE and my washing blew off the line on Friday! I would love a few hot balmy days without my garden chairs being blown to the bottom of the garden!

Any extreme weather is uncomfortable. But as a bit of an oldie, how many think this recent weather is normal? Recent as in this past year or so.

Iamtryingtobenicehere · 08/07/2018 21:11

I’m loving it, it’s summertime so I’d hope for warm and sunny days. I love winter too.
Dress appropriately, cool shower in the morning and another before bed, sleeping with only a top sheet, loving the summer.

LanaorAna2 · 08/07/2018 21:14

I am fat, menopausal and passed out at bus stop on Friday. Moved to Mediterranean Living, it helps if you can do it. Given you get no sleep at night, go to bed late, get up early and nap in the hottest part of the day.

All windows and doors shut until 7pm, open all night. Bucket of water over paved areas eg steps, balcony, terrace cools home with minimal effort. You suddenly realise how clean things can get :)

I just couldn't face getting drenched in sweat every five minutes today and reclined with a fan. Lovely.

All plans ruined by having to roast a chicken for the cat who is hot, hungry and grumpy.

Beansonapost · 08/07/2018 21:14

In the night time:

Leave windows open if you can.

Remove summer duvet and use a flat sheet.

Sleep in as little clothing or none if possible. At the moment it's bra and undies for me.

Also cold shower before bed. Literally after you've cleaned your teeth... even if you use no soap and only water.

Don't moisturise before bed... only face.

I'm loving it! Grin

I'm loving the heat - have made many long drives to the beach with the kids who're really loving it this summer. We leave fans on at night though friends have aircon - I don't think it's worth getting that as next year's summer is bound to be wet, cold and windy.

UpstartCrow · 08/07/2018 21:15

I hate it. I walked across the grass to water a plant last night and a thousand ravenous insects latched on to my legs.

SuperDandy · 08/07/2018 21:15

Sympathies to the pregnant people. It's brought back a memory for me of being 16 days overdue and being walked in on by the ILs lying full length in the slate floor in my pants just sweating and crying. Not my finest hour.

This year, I'm housebound and can't shower for medical reasons. At least I got out of the hospital before it really set in through!

Quartz2208 · 08/07/2018 21:16

it does cause commuter issues - south western trains have not run a full evening commute service since it started due to the heat and the trains take longer. Coupled with how hot they are commuting is a nightmare

Its the humidity and lack of air I long for a breeze

Rosstac · 08/07/2018 21:16

I can only presume the people that are liking this weather still, must work in an air conditioned office with an air conditioned car to drive to and from work, try doing manual work out in the heat 8-5 feeling totally drained by the time your finished, this weather is great if your on holiday or unemployed but please enough is enough, 19-21 and sunny is good enough for everyone, the garden is dying the rivers are nearly drained, the animals are struggling, we just can’t do heatin this country

kateandme · 08/07/2018 21:21

no not now.it not even pelasant heat.this is extreme.
im surprised noonoe is making more of a deal of it talking of glabal warming etc etc because this is not normal.
my fear is too if tis is the summer then what the hell type of weather at the other end fo the scale will we get in the colder months.that bring fear.
this is too hot now.its just become depresseive and make everthing impossible or a task.and I hate feeling grumpy all the time or irritated when I no im actually not haha.if someone touches me at the moment it feel like they are poking with an anooyance stick!

Ithinkthatsenough · 08/07/2018 21:23

Agreed
Our water has run out, so have to buy drinking water and use river water from a tank outside to shower etc, horseflies everywhere, grass for the animals is rapidly turning to dust, mountainous area, usually the wettest in the uk looking decidedly like an arrid spanish landscape!!
Give me a glorious icy winter’s or even a howling storm over this cack any day!!!!

flowercrow · 08/07/2018 21:26

utterly hate it.
These help -can shove them down your top or whatever (not at work obviously) www.poundland.co.uk/3pk-freezer-block

StopCloudSeeding · 08/07/2018 21:35

I'm really surprised at the comments on here. It's summer! What do you expect? Okay I know it's uncomfortable when pregnant, but do you expect the weather to accomodate your condition!
I fell out with my MIL in February because I could not stand the heat! That was in February but she kept closing my bedroom window, it was about 60 degrees.

madcatladyforever · 08/07/2018 21:39

I live by the sea so I'm loving it, when the house gets too hot I just go for a lovely paddle. The sea breeze keeps everything cool too Smile

OstrichRunning · 08/07/2018 21:39

YANBU -I am soo sick of it too. On maternity leave with 7 week old. I have no bf friendly clothes that work in this weather that don't also make me look like a tent. Sick of being paranoid said baby is overheating. Sick of vague guilt at not being out in sunshine more and then when I'm in it, vague guilt re ds overheating. Sick of feeling greasy all three time. Sick of damn screching seagulls too even though it's not their fault. Could go on but I'm too cranky to even complain more ...

Thanks for asking though op, because an other thing I'm sick of is everyone saying how great it is!

ForalltheSaints · 08/07/2018 21:48

Gardens and the local common could do with some rain.

School holidays are only a couple of weeks away, so surely it will rain then?

bluemascara · 08/07/2018 21:48

Yanbu
I'm melting slowly
Enough already!

RhinoGirl · 08/07/2018 21:48

I’m loving it but wouldn’t mind a touch of rain to cool in down a fraction and bring my garden back to life. A moor fire broke out earlier today near where I live so some help for the Fire Services would be nice. None forecast until next week.

malfoyy · 08/07/2018 21:56

I hate it. I can handle a couple of days of it but this is just too much.

I was so hot last night I thought I was going to explode or combust.

Tonight I was planning to put the fan on by DS has our only one in his room as it's hotter in there than all other rooms.

If it doesn't break soon I think I might ☹️

Snugglepiggy · 08/07/2018 21:58

Whilst I love certain aspects of this current heatwave I'm desperately worried for all the wildlife out there struggling with dried up ponds ,streams etc. We've been topping up our bird baths each day but it never occurred to me about other creatures until I found a dried up little frog on the patio looking in a pretty desperate state. We have now put some shallow bowls that can be climbed out of in various parts of the garden. Please could I urge you to do the same if possible.Apparently wildlife rescue centres are receiving seriously dehydrated animals. So I'd love the sun to continue, but would really love some rain every now and then to relieve this mugginess and refill some streams etc.

1MorePiece · 08/07/2018 22:00

Hope she’s better soon and you can get home Nogymjustcake

Amanduh · 08/07/2018 22:02

I love it. In April AIBU was full of people moaning about the rain and snow and how it had gone on for too long Grin what a difference a few weeks makes! However, it’s boiling here (32 today) and has been for weeks but our house is relatively cool, we haven’t had trouble sleeping etc so that probably makes a big difference to my opinion!

Titsywoo · 08/07/2018 22:07

It's not extreme heat! We've had weather like this many times in this country. This year it's gone on longer than usual but it's not like it's 40 degrees!

I enjoy it personally and sleep fine. I just shut all windows and curtains during the day and open them all when the sun goes down.

I'll just be disappointed if we don't get lots of decent weather during August since I have 3 UK breaks booked and they are all outdoorsy things. I'm not hopeful though!

Rosstac · 08/07/2018 22:08

StopCloudSeeding this isn’t normal summer temperatures, this is the longest run of high temperatures since 1976,

Trialsmum · 08/07/2018 22:09

🙄 surely those of us that need sunshine deserve some though, we’ve been waiting years for a decent summer.
