To have had enough of this weather!

I know I know. We should enjoy it but oh my god, I am so uncomfortable.

I've hardly slept for that past 3 nights. I feel irritable and headachey.
My living room is currently a toasty 29 degrees and that's with a huge fan and all of the windows open.

Please tell me I'm not alone with not loving a hot UK!
And before anyone says about all of the snow we had, I would much rather have that. Much easier to warm up than it is to cool down.

I feel like I'm the scrooge of summer!

YANBU. I was enjoying it for a while but we've gone far too long without any rain now. (And I'm in bloody Scotland.)

The grass is brown and crispy, everything seems to be dying and I'm getting concerned for the local birds Sad

Nogymjustcake · 08/07/2018 20:52

In hospital with dAughter as this weather is so dangerous for her really hope it settles so we can get out !

FreeofPills · 08/07/2018 20:54

Lol, I was wondering about hanging out in the car for air con!

I also miss jeans. It's 9pm and it's flipping 29c in the lounge.

I think this seems worse than 1976 because that was later in the summer so shorter days? Can't remember properly though. Also I think the general urban or suburban heat wasn't so bad, offices weren't so crowded, ditto Tube.

RoryGillmoresEvilTwin · 08/07/2018 20:54

I'm also hating it. I'm barely sleeping because my bedroom is hotter than hell. I have to walk to work, work in a place with no air con or fans, walk home and then walk to school. Every week day!
Ds wants to go to the park every bloody day after school and there's no shade.
And finally, my house looks like an extension of the local tip because I'm so fucking hot and tired I can't be arsed.

I LOVED the snow and cold. I love jumpers, Wooly hats, scarves and coats. I miss them 😢

I'm now off to iron school uniform for the next week. I'm hating life 😬

LanguidLobster · 08/07/2018 20:56

@Rory woolly hats and scarves! It's like a remnant of a distant past

1MorePiece · 08/07/2018 20:57

YADNBU I am fed up of this heat! On mat leave so not like I’m stuck in the office every day (although would be much cooler with air con!) but I am stuck in the house with DC with D&V

Ohmeohmy1234 · 08/07/2018 20:58

And CakeFlowers to all you heavily pregnant ladies. I’m 4 months, so not too big yet, but I’m definitely suffering more than usual in the heat. Very very grateful it’ll be winter when I’m at my hugest.

Lou222 · 08/07/2018 20:58

I LOVE it, house nice and cool, no fans. Although the house hasn’t been cool today but with all the windows open isn’t too bad.
Sleep with the windows open so fine at night.
I’m a foster carer so have lots of free time during the day to sit in the sun and read, feel like I’m on a permanent holiday.
Sorry for everyone struggling though.

BusySittingDown · 08/07/2018 20:59

I’m loving it. Nights are fine - I just sleep with no covers on.

I’m always cold though so this heat is amazing to me. I hate being cold.

RoryGillmoresEvilTwin · 08/07/2018 20:59

Languid I know. Those were the days.

I'm also sick to death of flip flops and sandals. My feet hurt. I want to wear my boots!

jasjas1973 · 08/07/2018 20:59

Can last until November as far as i'm concerned. we ve had 2 decades of shitte summers.

Keep your curtains drawn throughout the day and it ll keep the room cooler, as it wont be a Green house.

fassone · 08/07/2018 21:00

Don’t fret, we’ll have an eight month long winter soon (where I live anyway) and the sunshine will be a distant memory when I’m closing curtains at 3pm, looking at the enormous heating bill and battling colds, coughs and bugs.

mimibunz · 08/07/2018 21:00

It’s very hot! But im trying to be determined to enjoy it as I also get very tired of wearing cardigans in June. It’s the sleeping that’s the worst!

chrysalis7 · 08/07/2018 21:00

YANBU. I am loving this summer heatwave, but it's too 'close' or humid, or stuffy, or whatever ya wanna call it!!!

I struggled very badly today. Couldn't do anything but sit there in front of the fan 2/3 of the day. The other 3rd I sat in the garden in the shade. It's no good it being sunny and hot if it's too humid to do fuck-all! Hmm It may as well be raining!

If it was 28-30C and not humid, it would be a bit better, but today has been actually vile! Sad It only started to get a bit cooler and less humid at 8pm! It was 29-30 C from 11am to 7pm.

AnyFucker · 08/07/2018 21:02

Except for having to work in it which is an absolute NIGHTMARE I am loving it

Back to work tomorrow. Fuck.

Tillytrotter123 · 08/07/2018 21:02

Well I'm loving it, it could stay like this all year as far as I'm concerned. I'm on Mat leave and think I timed it well! After the beast from the east it's all very welcome. Agree with the pp, keep your bedroom window open and close the curtains, it keeps it cooler.

catlover1987 · 08/07/2018 21:05

YANBU. If you can relax all day in the sun, then I'm sure it's great. But having to go to work in this heat is torture. And my trains keep getting cancelled!

A few tips I've found for keeping cool at night are having a cool shower just before bed, putting a bowl of iced water in front of the fan, and sleeping with a hot water bottle that's been in the freezer.

catandpanda · 08/07/2018 21:06

Our house is sweltering so I am struggling - sympathy to those pregnant - got heat rash, feeling ill from heat and just want to sit in a bath of cold water. If I could cool house down would love it. We are also by a pub so hot weather and World Cup means a month of drunk idiotic behaviour outside our house and glass everywhere, oh joy. Still moving soon to middle of nowhere.

sunshinewithabitofdrizzle · 08/07/2018 21:06

I hate it. I'm extremely overweight at the moment, and peri-menopausal, so the combo is killing me. I'm just drenched in sweat all the time. Plus I live in a ground floor flat so can't keep windows open at night (no small windows), so the fan is just moving hot air around.

MrsItsNoworNotatAll · 08/07/2018 21:07

It's supposed to be cooler this week. I hope so. The heat is killing me. Yanbu.

SciFiFan2015 · 08/07/2018 21:08

All of those people with ineffective fans? Stick a bowl of ice water in front of the fan (obvs make sure fan and bowl of ice water are safely placed). It will make all the difference.

IbbleObbleOut · 08/07/2018 21:08

I'd love it more if I had air con in my car and didn't have to go into 6 or 7 lofts a day Grin Weekends are dandy - Weekdays, less so!

Menarefrommarsitwouldseem · 08/07/2018 21:08

I've not opened the curtains for a couple of weeks
It's a new build so I think they're insulated very well. Not so bad in the winter. Awful now.

I want it to be December.
Drawing the curtains when I come in. Stew in the slow cooker and a candle or 2 lit.
Bliss

I need to change my username!

Love hot, sunny weather and try to spend as much time outside as I can.

Don't love the hot nights so much but given the choice between freezing pissing rain and hot and sunny weather I'll take the latter so don't feel I can complain!

comedycentral · 08/07/2018 21:10

I hate the heat, always have. Roll on Autumn. If you tell anyone that you hate the heat and summer they get really arsey! Like by saying it the heat will magically disappear.

I wish!
