To be shocked at how Lenny Henry's 'great' weight loss has aged him by 20 years? And to think he looked better before the weight loss?

If this isn't living proof that losing a great deal of weight past middle age is not a good idea, I don't know what is! Lenny has lost LOADS of weight (4 - 5 stone,) and it has aged him so badly! He has aged 20 years!

He looked better before the weight loss!

Yeah fuck health it’s all about looks!

🙄

ShatnersBassoon · 06/07/2018 23:53

I think it's more likely the fact he's barely been in the limelight in the past 20 years that makes you think he suddenly looks a lot older. He looks his age.

Wingedharpy · 06/07/2018 23:54

He may look 20 years older but I'd bet my house he feels 20 years younger.
Good for him.

AndInShortIWasAfraid · 06/07/2018 23:54

A lot of black men are being told to lose weight in middle age as they are more at risk for diabetes and heart/cholesterol problems. My very fit dad has just lost two stone at the behest of his doctor. I think he looks awful but apparently his doctor thinks it's for the best. I read somewhere that Lenny Henry's weight loss was due to health concerns.

Ummmmgogo · 06/07/2018 23:57

I think he looks good. he's older now so yes supposed to look older.

AlisonCHaynes · 06/07/2018 23:57

I wouldn't have recognised him. He looks in great shape, but his features seem too large for his head.

Pascall · 06/07/2018 23:57

It's for an acting role isn't it? I think he is playing a slave in The Long Song - or something like that.

chrisinthesun · 06/07/2018 23:57

It's nothing to do with his 'health.' He has lost the weight for a TV role...

Cross post with Pascall.

As I said, losing loads of weight past middle age is a BAD idea. Ages you terribly.

But the Victorian-style haircut, baldness and the sober-coloured suit could have that effect in themselves, even with the old weight on, when people remember him with lots of hair and brightly colour clothes. I'm not sure that much of it is even the weight loss.

MazDazzle · 06/07/2018 23:59

I agree with Shatners.

SpitefulMidLifeAnimal · 06/07/2018 23:59

losing a great deal of weight past middle age is not a good idea

There's really no need to insult other people's bodies just to make yourself feel better about your own. Lenny deserves a big well done for taking responsibility for his own health.

I’ve been told there’s a point you have to choose between your face and your arse Grin

Obviously health reasons should be anyone’s top priority but in the real world vanity usually pips that one to the post.

Imfinehowareyou · 07/07/2018 00:03

Well if he looks like a 60 year old he only looks 1 year older than his real age.
I think he looks great.

ThomasNightingale · 07/07/2018 00:05

The weight loss looks great: the facial hair is a bit Homer Simpson. 5 stone heavier than that would have put him at serious diabetes risk, especially, as a pp said, for a black man.

Ofthread · 07/07/2018 00:05

Think he looks fab.

Butterflycookie · 07/07/2018 00:05

He looks like a 60 year old

Ummmm that’s because he is 60!......well turning 60 next month Hmm

Fluffyrainbows · 07/07/2018 00:06

I think he looks good, it's just quite a drastic change. Fair play to him.

chrisinthesun · 07/07/2018 00:07

He may be 59, but he did look 50, and now he looks 68-70.

Not slagging people off to make myself feel better; I am perfectly confident thank you @SpitefulMidLifeAnimal !

But I do know that losing a lot of weight in middle age is not a good idea as it ages you terribly. Deny it if you like... But it doesn't change the fact that it's true...

Lenny looks SO much older. I am shocked at how he looks!

Does it age you terribly? Why is that a fact? Is it a fact?

It might age you facially, but it's a great thing to do for your body and your longevity.

BlancheM · 07/07/2018 00:12

I don't think he looks older Confused or shocking in any way.
