To be shocked at how Lenny Henry's 'great' weight loss has aged him by 20 years? And to think he looked better before the weight loss?

If this isn't living proof that losing a great deal of weight past middle age is not a good idea, I don't know what is! Lenny has lost LOADS of weight (4 - 5 stone,) and it has aged him so badly! He has aged 20 years!

He looked better before the weight loss!

I think he looks fine. The hair and burns are horrible and aging.

SilverySurfer · 07/07/2018 02:01

I'm not sure what you're on about - he looks his age to me and must feel better and be healthier for losing that weight, which surely is more important.

MistressDeeCee · 07/07/2018 02:33

The weight loss and the sideburns are for a TV role. He's playing a slave - essential to the role isn't it since "well fed" won't cut it.

He's still a good looking man and will be even better when he reverts to his usual style. He's on the DJ scene quite a bit so I've seen him a few times he looks good

I'm also Caribbean heritage, 55 and look years younger than my age . No wrinkles. Im a size 14 and intend staying this way as I look much better at this size. I exercise and feel ok

I might go all out to lose weight if it guarantees me a disease free life & I can live to 150😁

Really tho - if it's important to someone else to be slim/skinny for whatever reason they choose to then that's absolutely fine, it's a personal choice.

It's a change to read an OMG post about man's weight loss, it's usually women who are looked at isn't it. Gillian McKeith was lambasted albeit I admit to being shocked when I found out her age.

pinkgirl1234 · 07/07/2018 02:35

I think he looks great - just different to the Lenny we're used to. I love Lenny! I think the burns look awful and aging though.

He hasn't exactly been out of the public eye, has he? He's been doing Shakespeare (I could have phrased that better Grin), he was in Broadchurch and he's been knighted.

If losing weight after middle age is the wrong thing to do, I'm fucked then!

halfwitpicker · 07/07/2018 02:49

He's not still with Dawn French is she?

Lycanthropology · 07/07/2018 03:03

Losing weight in middle age is a bad idea, you say, OP?

It's better to look younger but have health risks than it is to look a bit older and be healthy?

What a ridiculous opinion to hold. I think LH looks good, too.

Clairetree1 · 07/07/2018 03:12

I think he looks lovely

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 07/07/2018 03:35

I wonder how he did it! (Misses point of thread entirely) Hmm

NotAgainYoda · 07/07/2018 04:04

Can you define "ages you terribly"?

Are you saying that he is unhealthy or merely that he looks old?

You equate looking old with being unhealthy and that's where I think your logic falls down

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 07/07/2018 04:08

I wouldn't call you a bitch or a dick. But you're not merely observing. You're making a judgement that looking old is bad. And you also seem to be suggesting that it's better to be overweight than to look old, even if that's detrimental to one's health.

Obviously if you'd rather be overweight and potentially look younger then that's your prerogative.

Personally I don't understand why we as a society are so negative about looking our age.

I suppose it's easy for me to say because getting old and developing wrinkles is not a privilege that I will enjoy. As the saying goes, growing old is better than the alternative :)

BlackBeltInChildWrangling · 07/07/2018 04:17

He's a bit older than me, but I've always had a bit of a thing for Len. He's a humanitarian, and a talented actor and comedian. His latest look doesn't change any of that. He's a handsome guy, but he wasn't created to impress me or anyone else.

I hope it's good for his art and his health, and I hope he's happy.

Long live the Len!

HerRoyalNotness · 07/07/2018 04:29

OMG who cares! We all age and it’s perfectly natural to look ‘old’. Better than a surgically enhanced fake version of ourselves. We need to stop with all the nonsense and accept how we loOk

BlackBeltInChildWrangling · 07/07/2018 04:33

Well said, Her

RedDwarves · 07/07/2018 04:43

OP, by the time you're 80, you'll be indistinguishable from every other 80 year old. Age will get you eventually. Accept it. Embrace it.

Get the fuck over it, basically.

Coyoacan · 07/07/2018 04:59

Well I'm well over sixty and I find what ages people the most is pain and not being able to walk properly. The knees are what suffer the most when people are overweight and this is more of a problem with age. And personally I don't mind looking my age as long as I can have the use of my legs.

megletthesecond · 07/07/2018 05:08

Better to look a bit older than be dead.
He probably feels really good and has more energy.
Tbh he looks fine. I think it's the sideburns that make him look so different.

RunMummyRun68 · 07/07/2018 05:19

What a batshit thread

Oh, and op you are wrong..... a 'big weight loss.' Past 45 ( where did you pull that number from?) doesn't ran someone automatically looks older!!!

Stupid,groundless nasty remark!

ProseccoPoppy · 07/07/2018 05:29

I think he looks nice. Slim, which is only going to be good in the long run, and facially he looks pretty much as I would expect for a nearly 60 year old, if anything he looks a little younger than that. I disagree that he has aged terribly - he has aged normally over time and I don’t think the weight loss has made him look older (if anything, having a slimmer body makes him look younger imo).

Mummyoflittledragon · 07/07/2018 05:40

I saw a close up photo of him 3 weeks ago or so in his own clothes. His complexion no longer has the healthy glow of the comparison photo and looks ill imo. this is the article it the sun btw

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 07/07/2018 06:19

That's what happens though - once you reach a certain point your skin elasticity isn't good enough to bounce back once weight is lost.
If he'd never been overweight, his age would have shown through anyway, but more gradually and you wouldn't notice.

Better that he loses the weight and helps his health though - far more important than "looking younger".

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 07/07/2018 06:25

He hasn’t done it for his health though so will be interesting if he keeps it off after the role.

NerrSnerr · 07/07/2018 06:28

I'm interested to know whether the OP is overweight or not?

I find it really strange that you say it's a bad idea to lose weight after age 45 as it ages you- as it looks are the only reason to lose weight.

BoomBoomsCousin · 07/07/2018 06:30

You don’t exactly lack reason in your assertion, though I disagree with it. But you certainly lack worthwhile values.

I don’t think he older than he did before (though those side burns look awful). However, even if he does the idea that “losing a lot of weight in middle age isn’t a good idea because it ages you terribly” when what you mean by “ages you terribly” is that you won’t look as young as you did is pretty pathetic, shallow and narrow minded.

Even if losing the weight in middle age makes you look a bit older in at the time, you’ll be adding extra able bodied years to your life and you’ll both please other people’s eyes more and (rather more importantly) have a much better life for having that extra physical wherewithal long after people have adjusted to you being a healthy but slightly older looking middle aged person.

PostNotInHaste · 07/07/2018 06:45

Losing weight post 45 is a fucking excellent idea because you:

Feel massively better
Have much more energy
Cope better in hot weather
Reduce your health risks for just about everything
Your knees and other joints thank you for it
Much easier to buy clothes
Don’t need to worry about not fitting in seats.

A small price to pay if you do look older and you don’t necessarily, allegedly I don’t. I think I just look my age.

But what you do find is every Tom, Dick and Harry having an opinion on your weight losss and very unhelpful comments along the lines of don’t lose another stone , you’ll look positively anorexic when you’re still medically overweight. I think Lenny looks his age but bet he feels 10 years younger.

NotgoingoutNotstayingin · 07/07/2018 07:24

OP - how old are you?
