To be shocked at how Lenny Henry's 'great' weight loss has aged him by 20 years? And to think he looked better before the weight loss?

If this isn't living proof that losing a great deal of weight past middle age is not a good idea, I don't know what is! Lenny has lost LOADS of weight (4 - 5 stone,) and it has aged him so badly! He has aged 20 years!

He looked better before the weight loss!

My mum always says I only look young because I’m fat.

Mothers! Can't live with 'em, can't bury them in a shallow unmarked grave under the petunias . . . .

It really is! It’ll reduce your risk of almost all cancers, but in women particularly breast and ovarian.

I know he did it for a role. But the bigger picture too - Lenny has children, I’m sure he’s thinking of being there for them and living to meet his grandkids. As pp said black men can be at particular risk from complications to do with weight.

DuchyDuke · 07/07/2018 11:07

He was looking old before the weight loss too, you just never saw it as he wasn’t on TV as much.

abbey44 · 07/07/2018 11:08

I think he looks just great, and I'm betting he feels it too.

OP, your comments are just ignorant and wrong for so many reasons, but you must have gathered that by now. I'm the same sort of age as Lenny Henry, and have also lost 4-5 stones since last September and I know that I not only feel a ton better, but I look a lot younger than I did this time last year. But that's incidental, it's the health benefits that are the most important.

ChanandlerBongsNeighbour · 07/07/2018 11:13

I think he looks perfectly normal and actually younger/healthier for being slimmer.

Zucker · 07/07/2018 11:16

So he's "looking" old.....how very dare he!

Never mind his bones, heart, lungs and joints have less pressure on them.

Sounds like some sound logic you have going on there OP.

SerenDippitty · 07/07/2018 11:18

If you are overweight, losing weight is a VERY good idea, and im a fat person!
Good on him, im sure he is feeling much healthier.

But not losing too much. You don’t need to be right at the lower end of the healthy BMI range to be healthy.

coolncalm · 07/07/2018 11:18

I think people who are fuller in the face definitely don't seem to show their age as much as someone with a thinner face. A fuller face plumps out the wrinkles itms.

coolncalm · 07/07/2018 11:20

But i'd definitely rather have a few wrinkles than be the weight i am now. I always look better and younger when i'm at the right weight, and that's WITH the wrinkles.

HildaZelda · 07/07/2018 11:24

It's not his weight loss that I was a bit surprised about, but his new girlfriend. Remind you of anyone?

coolncalm · 07/07/2018 11:25

Lenny has children He has one child.

SlothSlothSloth · 07/07/2018 11:26

HildaZelda he has a type!

I actually didn’t know he and Dawn had split...

gamerwidow · 07/07/2018 11:28

He does look very different but I'm not sure he necessarily looks older.
Anyway good for him, losing weight is bloody difficult especially as you get older and I bet he feels amazing. I've lost one and a half stone recently and even that small weight loss makes a difference to how you feel moving about.
No criticism of those who are overweight because it's very hard to maintain a healthy weight and I've struggled too over the years too but carrying a lot of extra pounds does put a strain on your health and if you can tackle it then it's a positive thing.

evilharpy · 07/07/2018 11:41

I think he looks great. He’s always been a lovely looking guy. He looks his age but he looks well for nearly 60.

Did Dawn get the same slating when she lost all that weight?

Boulshired · 07/07/2018 11:51

My Dad didn’t lose the middle age weight gain, he did look very young for his age. Until he died at 70 due to type 2 diabetes complications.

ReggaetonLente · 07/07/2018 12:46

He has one child.

Er, okay. I’m sure he’s equally as invested in not dying young, despite only having one. Confused

Gwenhwyfar · 07/07/2018 12:50

"Did Dawn get the same slating when she lost all that weight?"

I think she did get some stick, seeing as she had been a pro-fat activist before that was even a thing. I think she looks amazing now by the way.

user1485342611 · 07/07/2018 12:52

Definitely the older you get the more you benefit, looks wise, from having a bit of weight around your face. But for a lot of people, that's the first place they lose the weight so yes, losing weight can make middle aged people looking a bit older.

gamerwidow · 07/07/2018 12:55

What the point of looking younger if you die younger too? We should focus on health more than appearance it annoys me that looking young is the goal women set for themselves. What’s so wrong with a 50 year old looking like a 50 year old.

coolncalm · 07/07/2018 12:55

Reggae sorry i didn't mean to sound like having one child made any difference. I was just clarifying, I didn't mean it to come across that way.

coolncalm · 07/07/2018 13:08

Years ago we never called hot summers "heatwaves", it was just summer. The fact we now say "heatwave" just shows how rare they've become.

coolncalm · 07/07/2018 13:43

Sorry, that was meant for another thread. Grin

PortiaCastis · 07/07/2018 13:49

He's 60 next month and just how the hell is he supposed to look, he's lost weight and still can't win poor sod

Labradoodliedoodoo · 07/07/2018 13:51

He looks great

DontDribbleOnTheCarpet · 07/07/2018 14:04

I don't care who the person is or how famous they are, holding someone else up as an example of how not to look is spiteful and mean-spirited.
