To be shocked at how Lenny Henry's 'great' weight loss has aged him by 20 years? And to think he looked better before the weight loss?

If this isn't living proof that losing a great deal of weight past middle age is not a good idea, I don't know what is! Lenny has lost LOADS of weight (4 - 5 stone,) and it has aged him so badly! He has aged 20 years!

He looked better before the weight loss!

He wasn't overweight at all before so I don't know why people keep mentioning his "health" when they know the sideburns and weight loss are for a film role. He looked absolutely fine before and looks fine now. The obsession with weight and looks reaches nonsensical stage here.

SleepFreeZone · 07/07/2018 07:42

The OP is right though. Health always before looks but a sudden increase it decrease in weight does age you outwardly as you get older. That’s just fact!

JayRayDay · 07/07/2018 07:43

Well he may look older but he will sure as hell be healthier. I notice you haven't mentioned health. Just the robotically repetitive message that losing weight over the age of 45 ages you. Hmm

SleepFreeZone · 07/07/2018 07:43

*or

Imsodonewithshit · 07/07/2018 07:49

Of course if you loose fat in your face the wrinkles will be more pronounced...nothing to stretch the skin and mask their appearances

NotTakenUsername · 07/07/2018 07:55

YABU.

Hows the head this morning op?

Nuffaluff · 07/07/2018 07:58

He looks his age - what’s wrong with that? He looks healthy.
He’s pulling a funny face too. Looks like the photographer caught him out a bit.

Frankwindsor · 07/07/2018 07:59

I think he looks oooooooh...KAYYYYYYYY!

You'd have to be of a certain age to get that reference :)

UrgentScurryfunge · 07/07/2018 08:00

If my DF had lost weight after 45, he would have had a better chance of having a 55th birthday. Fat clogged arteries are dead aging. Literally.

Nothing is going to guarentee good health into old age, but the more time spent at a healthy weight means less wear and tear on joints (poor posture & mobility, very aging) and reduced risk of complications and better recoveries from illness.

People in the media don't tend to show very naturalised aging anyway from tricks of light and make-up to more drastic methods of altering themselves. If Lenny is feeling healthier, fair play to him Smile

Hillstreamloach · 07/07/2018 08:04

I'd need to see a recent before photo. He looks older than I remember him but then again I haven't seen him much for ages. I think his hair loss probably ages him most.

MrsMint · 07/07/2018 08:05

I used to like him back in the day, but going by interviews he's got very precious and up himself. He thinks he's the great thespian now!

SchadenfreudePersonified · 07/07/2018 08:10

I thought Timothy Spall looked dreadful when he lost weight - though I am aware that it was necessary for health reasons. Now that I am used to the more streamlined version, I think he looks fine. Perhaps it's just the contrast with his previous chunky self, rather than his actual appearance (if you know what I mean).

thecatsarecrazy · 07/07/2018 08:10

Sometimes when people loose weight it is a shock and doesn't seem to suit them. I've seen pictures on weight watchers etc of before and after and the after looks weird. I sometimes see a woman i went to school with who has lost loads and her face shape doesn't suit it. I think everyone has a natural weight that suits and we sometimes go beyond it. Ive lost a stone and it's coming off my face and arms more than my belly.

ShowOfHands · 07/07/2018 08:13

Hooray. We've finally achieved equality. Now we can rip apart the way a man looks and scrutinise their weight too.

I'll let my pa (diabetes, copd, arthritis, asthma) know not to bother in his struggle to lose weight. Fuck his mobility and breathing. He might catch wrinkles.

LovelyBath77 · 07/07/2018 08:16

A very large study recently showed weight loss linked to higher risk of dementia after middle age. Not so healthy perhaps.

Thehop · 07/07/2018 08:18

My mum always says I only look young because I’m fat. 😂

madcatladyforever · 07/07/2018 08:19

He'll be great in his new acting role, I think his weight loss has given him a whole new character.

AJPTaylor · 07/07/2018 08:20

huh?
i think he looks fabulous. and he is 60. he looks fucking good for any age but certainly for 60
OP are you my mother?

Timefortea99 · 07/07/2018 08:22

I am 53 and have lost 30 pounds. I will be losing 12 more. I look younger, not older, which is not just my view, everybody has mentioned it. I did it slowly just by cutting down and walking a lot. I think fast weight loss can make you look older but not if you do it slowly. It’s about health anyway. Even if I did look older I would still do it. I feel much more healthy and positive about life, which is more important that what you look like.

RebelRogue · 07/07/2018 08:23

What's wrong with looking your age though?
There seems to be this horror of it that I just don't understand.

reeldoop · 07/07/2018 08:23

i think he looks better, and pretty good for a 60 year old.

Biologifemini · 07/07/2018 08:24

He is 60 and he looks great.
If you decide to gain a lot of weight then you won’t be living much past 60 anyway. There is no point looking wonderful and having a heart attack because of it.

CrochetBelle · 07/07/2018 08:25

I think he looks fantastic. Good for him.

daisychain01 · 07/07/2018 08:26

So do people who have never been fat look younger? Or do fat people look younger than their age but then lose weight and look old like people who were always skinny?

This is the thing. If you have always been a consistent average weight and have never been very overweight that's the ideal from a health perspective. Skin doesn't get overstretched so that when the weight comes off and subcutaneous fat is lost, the skin is not plump.

But honestly, who doesn't have weight fluctuations through life. Having babies, working in a sedentary job where you have no option but to sit there for more hours than you'd want, health issues including meds, and of course the challenge of temptations in every shop, to eat lots of "treats", these life style factors hit most people.

If only we all lived perfect charmed lives.

No we don't so let's stop beating ourselves up because we don't "look young". Shallow thinking!!!

Timefortea99 · 07/07/2018 08:28

Somebody mentioned aches and pains making you seem older. I forgot to mention that I move faster and no longer have pains in my feet and knees. My posture is better. Moving slowly with aching joints is ageing. Feeling great far outweighs any doubts about face looking older.
