To ring RSPCA?

Downstairs neighbour but along one has had a small dog barking away in the garden since around 5pm.

I've never known them have a dog before, never seen it before and I've lived here a while, like I said it's been there since 5pm, no shade, can't see any food or water out there either and it's been crying/barking since 5pm. Its really sad to listen to. I would go and talk to the neighbours but they're known for being horrible, aggressive and violent men and I think are the local drug dealers ( lovely, I know).

AIBU to ring the RSPCA as it's been stuck out there for 5 hours or will they not be interested as DP suggests it could be a friend visiting and they don't want the dog in the house. Am I just being a worried animal lover or does this not seem to you either?

Chocolatecoffeeaddict
Given the choice between being silly or letting a (highly probable) stolen dog succumb to these extreme temperatures, I know what I'd choose. She's done an incredible thing for that little dog.

rosylea · 07/07/2018 14:26

chocolate if it wasn't for OP, dog would most likely still be there now in this blasting heat! Can't even sit it myself, never mind a dog!

blueskypink · 07/07/2018 14:29

OP as good as you're intentions are I think you have been a bit silly and let your heart overrule your head

What should the op have done Chocolate? There may well be repercussions but the op clearly thinks rescuing the dog from further suffering is more important. I'd call that brave, selfless and caring - not 'silly'.

crazycatgal · 07/07/2018 14:35

@Chocolatecoffeeaddict Yeah you're right the OP should have left the dog to become seriously ill or die.

OP you've done the right thing.

Loopylou6 · 07/07/2018 14:37

Any news? Well done op, what a lovely person you are

smileyhappypeople · 07/07/2018 14:41

Aw hope the poor thing is ok? Waiting for your mug shot to appear on Facebook though with a 'does anyone know who these 2 are? They broke in to my garden and stole my dog' message Wink

Foodylicious · 07/07/2018 14:48

Hope the dog is ok.
Interested to hear how the conversation goes when you get to the vets and tell you have just stollen/rescued a dog from a garden...

Orlandointhewilderness · 07/07/2018 14:49

I think you did the right think op but be prepared for the shit to hit the fan!

Foodylicious · 07/07/2018 14:49

Hope your instinct is spot on and there is no come back on you two

vb8293 · 07/07/2018 14:53

I think if you're worried (which I definitely would be), I would 100% call the RSPCA. You can never be too careful and a lot of people don't appreciate just how tough this hot weather can be for our dogs.

blueskypink · 07/07/2018 14:55

Vb8293 - read the thread?

worriedupstairsneighbour · 07/07/2018 14:57

Thank you for all lovely messages, I was bricking myself really but I couldn't stand to hear the barking and my pets were getting really freaked out.

I've seen the vet, the dog is chipped, he's called Milo and the address he's registered at is in the city I live in but not my neighbours address.

They've contacted the owner who says the dog has been missing for about a month! Got to speak to the police about it and the owner is on her way to collect him so I'm waiting for her.

Downstairs neighbour is a massive arsehole and I dread to think what he was planning on doing with him Confused

Llioed · 07/07/2018 14:57

Wow! You are a saint! I bet the owner will be so happy to see their dog again! Star

GiddyGardner · 07/07/2018 14:58

Even if it really is their dog, good intentions were at heart and the 'dog owners' we're not being responsible. OP will have her concerns logged with the RSPCA and the police as she called them. She has taken reasonable action to alleviate suffering and taken to the vets for scanning. All logged, all reasonable. Well done OP. I would have done the same.

rosylea · 07/07/2018 14:58

Vb8293 you've missed all the action! :-D

Orlandointhewilderness · 07/07/2018 14:58

Oh fantastic update OP! Well done, you've made someone's day.

GiddyGardner · 07/07/2018 14:59

X post. Well done again OP, seems your instincts served you well. I hope you have a lovely weekend, you are a saint in my eyes!

N2986 · 07/07/2018 15:00

Well done op Cake

SchrodingersCaterpillar · 07/07/2018 15:02

What a hero you are OP, such a happy ending, god knows what that poor little creature has been through in the past month. This is why I never let my dog out of my sight for a second. I hope they prosecute the shit out of that bastard.

rosylea · 07/07/2018 15:03

Wow! Well done OP, you're a heroine and you've just made a lot of MNetters very happyGrin thankyou Flowers

CraftyNestUK · 07/07/2018 15:03

Well done! It certainly pays to be concerned and persistent. Just think how you’ve changed things for this poor dog and their owner.

Hoping police do take action

HemanOrSheRa · 07/07/2018 15:05

Oh! How fantastic! Milo's owner is going to be over the moon Smile.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 07/07/2018 15:06

Well done OP.

I have to admit that I was worried both for the dog an for you!

Please let us know what the reunion of Milo and his mamas like (I am already weeping with happiness on their behalf).

But just think - if your neighbours hadn't been such thoughtless, uncaring twats, then that poor little dog might never have got home.

Have some Flowers Flowers Flowers

rosylea · 07/07/2018 15:06

And of course, the owner Grin

SchadenfreudePersonified · 07/07/2018 15:06

*mam was, not mamas (I'm not quite that soft )
