Hairless foofs

Ginismyfriendx · 06/07/2018 01:02

So can't sleep and watching naked attraction (please do judge me, I deserve it)
Are completely bare foofs a thing now? Having had a nasty experience of an ingrown hair from shaving bikini line (which required anti-biotics) why go through that? Nevermind the faff. Who want's an evening shadow on their lady bits?
All for a bit of pruning, but uprooting?

It's been "a thing" for quite some time.

ThunderInMyHeart · 06/07/2018 01:07

I’ve been doing it for the past 10 years (I’m 32)...because it feels nicer bare (to me), better sex as my clitoris is more exposed, didn’t want the hassle of trimming it...and I thought leaving a landing strip would look like Hitler had taken residence down there!

Penguin34 · 06/07/2018 01:12

I'm a beauty therapist (ask me anythingGrin)
It's my most popular treatment, I probably do around 20 Hollywood's a week in an average week. I do all beauty.
I probably do around 3 standard bikini line waxes a month!
I hate the feeling of hair there myself.
There are 3 of us in my salon and we do about the same amount each, sometimes more

Ginismyfriendx · 06/07/2018 01:24

@hunderInMyHeart ha the Hitler comment just made me splutter my tea.
@Penguin34 I'd feel way too self conscious to go to a beauty therapist. Once went for a proper tan (not a spray) and was lying there going 'ahhhh you're touching my boobs'.
But how do you deal with the re-growth (spikey surely not sexy) and bit terrified of another in-growing hair.
Feel very old...

Ginismyfriendx Hair does not re-grow spiky - that's a myth.

I have done it for years (in the shower), and have never got ingrown hairs or stubble or itchiness or anything like that.

TheDropBear · 06/07/2018 01:31

If you wax the regrowth isn't spiky, the whole hair is pulled out so the regrowth is quite soft. You're meant to exfoliate to avoid ingrown hairs but some people get much worse than others.
Out of interest penguin, do beauty therapists tend to get treatments done in their own salons or do they go somewhere else for the more intimidate stuff?

Salavart62 · 06/07/2018 01:31

Post wax regrowth doesn’t tend to be spiky especially after the first few times. I get ingrown hair when I shave but rarely when I wax.

Arum51 · 06/07/2018 01:34

It's shaving that causes ingrowing hair, it doesn't happen with waxing (to me, anyway). I used to do all that stuff, but I just can't be arsed any more, tbh. I've got a feeling the trend itself is due to the rise in porn use over the past 10-15 years.

I can't be anything but completely smooth down there.

Ginismyfriendx · 06/07/2018 01:37

I think another reservation is that beauty therapists go 'ahh got a full on wax this afternoon. Don't want to look at another foof' (this isn't based on nothing, I once heard that exact conversation whilst getting my eyebrows done but they didn't say foof)
As in we all have bits of our job we hate...

Yes, completely bare foofs are a thing now.

It's from porn. Porn is a huge influence on our culture, especially on the younger, always connected generations.

Girls are told they're disgusting by not only boys but also other girls if they don't shave.

It's fucking depressing.

Totally agree. If that's your preference then great. But it's another idealistic nonsense that takes up time/money that tbh I don't think I could be arsed with.
to be serious, I'm uneasy that it makes us look like pre-pubescent girls. But in another sense suppose it's no different to shaving arm pits / legs.
Think my main objection is I'm lazy :p

Public hair is there to do a job - it protects our vaginas from bacteria and other unwanted nasties.

Shaving it off leaves you more vulnerable to strep or staph bacterial infections, not to mention herpes.

From this article: "There is an increase in staph boils and abscesses, necessitating incisions to drain the infection, resulting in scarring that can be significant. It is not at all unusual to find pustules and other hair-follicle inflammation papules on shaved genitals."

Possibly not the desired effect, I suspect!

yearofthewoman · 06/07/2018 01:47

Me too.

sonlypuppyfat · 06/07/2018 01:48

I think and always have that removing hair down there is really wierd! Why because it's cleaner? Do you not wash. I don't want to look like a child or a porn star

WhatToDoAboutWailmerGoneRogue · 06/07/2018 01:51

I’ve shaved all my hair off down there now for well over a decade.

I prefer how it looks (if you think it looks prepubescent, there’s something wrong with you that makes you see and/or think hair is the only difference between girl and woman) and how it feels.

I’ve never had any issue with ingrown hairs, itchiness or stubble.

yearofthewoman · 06/07/2018 01:54

if you think it looks prepubescent, there’s something wrong with you that makes you see and/or think hair is the only difference between girl and woman

What kind of bollocks logic is that?! No one said the only difference between a girl and a woman is some hair. No one is saying that shaving your hair off makes you look indistinguishable from a prepubescent girl.

It does make you look more like one, though.

yearofthewoman · 06/07/2018 01:57

I only get a wax before swimming / holidays

I'm not even going to bother shaving around the edges this year, I plan to get a swimming costume that covers the hair, east peasy, job done!

Something along these lines...

NotTheFordType · 06/07/2018 02:03

You know you could have done a search and found any of the approximate 5000 threads on MN already on this subject, each of them asserting your right to remove or not remove your hair according to personal preference?

Anyway: I shave my pubes because a) sex is SO MUCH BETTER without a thick mat of pubes muffling sensation; b) in this weather particularly, I get much less hot and sweaty in that region during physical activity (eg a gym session) and therefore less prone to yeast infections and c) I think it's good that guys get a look at some actual real life vulvas that aren't hidden or "dressed" . (to this end I also don't shave my legs, bu do shave my armpit as that's for my own benefit )

Salavart62 · 06/07/2018 02:03

My hair would still show past those suits year :(

FloydWasACat · 06/07/2018 02:04

Will everyone please stop saying 'foof'! It's making me laugh too much for this late at night...also 'public hair'. Thank you Mumsnet, you are always there for me when I need cheering up
