To be sick of this 'it's coming home' nonsense

It's not coming home. Who ever said England is home? It makes us look idiotic to the rest of the world. Someone on the radio said they really believe England is going to win this year. The rest of the world must be pissing themselves looking at England cheering over such a mediocre team and having such delusions of grandeur.

It also seems to make people behave like hooligans. I've seen some crazy driving before the matches start, and people were making noise until the early hours last night.

It's just a game! We never get this excited about the olympics, Wimbledon or even Rugby.

Nothing brings out snobbery like football getting lots of attention Grin

ginghambox · 04/07/2018 20:37

I mean only men are competing.
FFS the womens world cup is in France next year.

Sparklingbrook · 04/07/2018 20:37

Seems the pub thing is bothering you above everything else OP.

autumn57565 · 04/07/2018 20:38

And the fact it's called the Women's World Cup whereas this is just called the World Cup speaks volumes

It makes a change to have something nice to think about (as a nation) instead of the miserable shit that usually preoccupies the nation!
Stop being such a misery and let people be happy.

GrumbleBumble · 04/07/2018 20:38

I'm a woman - I bloody love football. I went to an England match at France 98 and I've been to about a dozen England games at Wembley. I've been to 70+ grounds across all four divisions. Personally I'd rather disembowel myself with a piece of celery than watch Love Island/ I'm a celebrity etc. But I understand that other people want to (god knows why).

midnightmisssuki · 04/07/2018 20:38

Oh God OP - do you really have no issues in life that you're annoyed by something that happens every 4 years, and even that lasts a month or so?! Its a game. People are happy. They're singing a song, that the cup might be coming home, because the English love football and the EPL is such a big thing, more so than the Bundesliga or the La Liga, its bigger, football is bigger here. It'll be over soon. in the meantime, maybe dont go out, or, ear plugs?! Wink

The80sweregreat · 04/07/2018 20:38

It’s funny how it’s seen as a ‘working class ‘ sport mostly played by millionaires in the top leagues.

Sparklingbrook · 04/07/2018 20:38

I think packed pubs is a good thing considering how many are closing down due to lack of trade as well.

JacquesHammer · 04/07/2018 20:39

The sweeping generalisations in this thread are utterly, mind-numbingly stupid.

TheUnknowner · 04/07/2018 20:39

So many miserable old wankers on here today

MikeIngdom · 04/07/2018 20:39

World cup mostly for men? How very dare you. I am a woman, and I love the World Cup more than I can possibly ever express but this is DH is constantly occupied, which means that I can spend almost every evening peacefully watching repeats of Cheers on the computer

Imstickingwiththisone · 04/07/2018 20:40

Although its first golden age occurred in the United Kingdom in the early 1920s, when one match achieved over 50,000 spectators,[3] The Football Association initiated a ban in 1921 that disallowed women's football games from the grounds used by its member clubs. The ban stayed in effect until July 1971.[4]

You keep finding something else to pick at op, but you just seem a bit miserable tbh. Like you can't see joy in anything.

Sparklingbrook · 04/07/2018 20:40

There are no matches on tonight as it happens. Grin

The80sweregreat · 04/07/2018 20:40

The pubs are ru ning out of beer - lack of carbon dioxide. What will happen on Saturday without any beer?

ReadingRiot · 04/07/2018 20:40

I agree gingahbox. Watch the football or don't but the venom against it on here is vicious and says more about those posters than about football or football fans.

Football is a very good thing in the lives of many working class men and boys, the one group it's OK to vilify.

JacquesHammer · 04/07/2018 20:41

There are no matches on tonight as it happens

Loving the irony that the OP could be revelling in a football free night but instead has started a discussion about how awful it is Grin

Hamiltoes · 04/07/2018 20:41

The rest of the world are not pissing themselves because most other countries are not as cripplingly awkward about positivity and optimism

Anecdotal of course but Turkish bar last night with English flags flying and red+white baloons absolutely erupted when Columbia scored, Turks, Irish, Russians, Scottish etc. 😂 I really couldn't give a hoot about any of it, but I caught an interview on TV with Henrik Larrsson and I think it was Thierry Henry and the commentator kept saying "So what about England then haven't they been great?" "Yes X were good but what about England?" "What do you think of Englands formations???" Etc etc. They hadn't even been playing that day it was two other countries. I know it's bad but there is a slight twinge of pleasure when yous dont do as well as you think you will. This is purely a football culture thing, NOT an English thing.

LemonysSnicket · 04/07/2018 20:42

I'm not a football fan but even I enjoy the World Cup! It's exciting, the UK united behind one team instead of many!

IDontBowlOnShabbos · 04/07/2018 20:42
Maybe make up your own football song op, this guy has some good tips.
OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 04/07/2018 20:43

Try working in a school. Eg-English lesson, do teaching, any questions? "miss, is it coming home?" Aaaaaaargh! (Disclaimer, I'm tired, hot and ready for end of term.)

Lethaldrizzle · 04/07/2018 20:43

I'm happy for England but am not a footie fan and i hate that people's moods are so affected by what is just a game. White van men should always be nice!

Sparklingbrook · 04/07/2018 20:43

No beer Shock and possibly no fizzy drinks at this rate.

Good time to go out and about, Saturday afternoon if you have a tendency to moan about it. Book a spa day or something. Wink

Walkingdeadfangirl · 04/07/2018 20:43

Men - Football
Women - Love Island
Mars, Venus get it?

I know loads of men who love women's football and loads of woman who love men's football. I think its only Scottish women who hate England doing well at world most popular sport.

Its definitely coming HOME.
