To be sick of this 'it's coming home' nonsense

It's not coming home. Who ever said England is home? It makes us look idiotic to the rest of the world. Someone on the radio said they really believe England is going to win this year. The rest of the world must be pissing themselves looking at England cheering over such a mediocre team and having such delusions of grandeur.

It also seems to make people behave like hooligans. I've seen some crazy driving before the matches start, and people were making noise until the early hours last night.

It's just a game! We never get this excited about the olympics, Wimbledon or even Rugby.

"I dont know one woman who likes it"

That's because women are conditioned not to like it. Those of us with more enlightened fathers who encouraged it soon see the appeal. Most women who don't like it have never given it a chance (their choice entirely) but IME whilst women are in the minority at football matches, they are among the most passionate fans. Our away following has a much higher % of women than our home crowd. Women who have seen the light, become superfans Grin

I don't know one woman who likes it

I'm not a football fan generally but I make an exception to watch England in the World Cup.

I was in town today and there were a load of young lads singing Three Lions in a beer garden, surrounded also by couples and families, everyone smiling and happy, I just can't get my head round someone seeing that and grumbling about it.

It's tiresome as fuck but I so far seem to have been managing to successfully avoid most of it. I couldn't give two tiny shits about football and find people getting worked up it ridiculous. The whole shouting at the TV thing makes me CRINGE. So I'm with you OP. Can't wait til it's all over.

It is very easily avoided TBF.

You're not alone op, I get sick of football aaaallll the time. For the 'lighten up it's just a game' and 'join in the fun' crowd, the short answer is no and we shouldn't have to. The football version of fun - which includes all-too-well-known escalated levels of violence and nuisance - is not for everyone, and that is fine. Nor is it 'the greatest game' or the most important sport on earth, that is a symptom of the way football is pushed in Britain. Other countries treat it as just another game, and not the most interesting one. We had fireworks at midnight in our area last night. It's hard enough to sleep at the moment as it is, and when it is fireworks night plenty of people complain about random fireworks outside organised events. Cheers.

I think the positive spirit is quite nice. Driving today, only a short distance, I got let out of turn outs by 3 white vans - very unusual. I think the win has made people nicer!! The hot summer plus football is very '96/'06 and I think nostalgic for a lot of people.

Meant to say, the only good point is that it will be over soon.

Rudgie I don't know one woman who likes it, I know dozens, myself included. I love football, always have ever since I can remember. Played it when I was younger, and I was pretty good too.

I also know plenty of boys/men who have no problem stating they don't like the game and I've never seen any of them ridiculed for it.

YANBU OP. I haven’t watched one game. I don’t like football, why should I watch it just because England are playing. I never watch tennis, the olympics, rugby. Find it all boring.

I’ve been to live matches in the past with XH, to League One games, been to Anfield twice, and yes the atmosphere is great, but I still don’t like football.

My friend’s family though, have season ticket for the club where they used to live, and all go, her, her DH and her two DD’s. The DD’s both play football for local girls clubs and play very well. A lot of women do like football now, but I’m not one of them.

I think the reason many women don't like it is because the World Cup IS for men. There are no female players, and you'd never get men making a fuss and cheering about women's football or any all-female tournament.

Somebody put England flags all over our little town which I thought was lovely. But after 24 hoursthere are a lot missing. Angry

But according to FB Spotted someone got the registration of the flag thief. Which is good.

DH watched the womens football too.

My Dad doesn't watch football ever, nor does DB.

You can't generalise so much.

I think men are brainwashed from an early age to like it and they just say they like it in order to fit in and belong etc.
I dont know one woman who likes it, thats because its utter shit.

Former Manchester United season ticket holder here, pleased to meet you, Rudgie.

I think the reason many women don't like it is because the World Cup IS for men. There are no female players

Then you'll be pleased to know that the Women's World Cup will be taking place next year.

you'd never get men making a fuss and cheering about women's football or any all-female tournament.

But I have seen men get interested in women's football, so...

There is a women's England team op, and women's football is getting more and more popular all the time. It has been underfunded and I believe the fa banned it years and years ago?! ( I may have misremembered that). The point is it has catching up to do but the players and the fans exist for women's football too.
