Why is the story of this poor girl so far down all the news websites?

OP posts:
teaandtwigs · 04/07/2018 13:14

Poor love. It's a very tragic and strange situation, I hope they find out what happened to her soon

claire006 · 04/07/2018 13:16

Does seem bizarre. Normally a child murder is right at the top of the news headlines.

LanguidLobster · 04/07/2018 13:16

I read about her - really hope they find out soon poor little girl

HollowTalk · 04/07/2018 13:18

They don't know it's murder, do they? They were talking about her sleep walking.

It was shocking that her poor mum only learned about this on social media. Absolutely appalling.

teaandtwigs · 04/07/2018 13:18

They haven't confirmed if she was murdered or not as yet? I suspect the family are involved though

HollowTalk · 04/07/2018 13:19

Sorry, just seen the link and realise they do think it's murder now.

OfaFrenchmind2 · 04/07/2018 13:19

I think they confirmed it is murder. Such a terrible tragedy

Phosphorus · 04/07/2018 13:20

What can they say?

They haven't reported a break in or any suggestion the child was kidnapped from the hoyse, or appealed for any information really, so they probably have a suspect they're keeping an eye on.

Amanduh · 04/07/2018 13:21

It’s all over the news. I presume from what’s happened and what i’m reading there’s a lot to it they haven’t released or spoken about yet.

LittleLionMansMummy · 04/07/2018 13:21

Child murder is higher up in the news when it seems likely the circumstances suggest it's a stranger abduction/ murder or a very tenuous link to the victim - or several days pass without a body and the investigation progresses. She was found quickly and I suspect police know what happened.

HollowTalk · 04/07/2018 13:22

I wonder why her dad doesn't have the same surname as his parents. I know it's nothing to do with anything, but it's odd.

Why on earth didn't her dad call the child's mother as soon as she was missing?

thornyhousewife · 04/07/2018 13:24

I think the police probably know the circumstances and are building an iron clad case before charging.

Poor little sweetheart. Her school's statement mentions her as being 'part of the family' and doesn't mention her parents specifically. I would infer from this that she was from a chaotic household.

Awful and incredibly sad news.

mishfish · 04/07/2018 13:24

I could be wrong but I thought the media and police sometimes worked together to create certain outcomes

Such as if they think it was a parent they may have the media lead the public to believe the parents have been ruled out so they let their guard down?

Or maybe I’ve read too much crime fiction

DartmoorDoughnut · 04/07/2018 13:26

That’s awful Sad

lostinjapan · 04/07/2018 13:30

It's been a prominent story on the Mail Online for the last few days. But I'm sure if the police believed it to be a stranger abduction plus murder it would be an even bigger story. So I think they already have a good idea of what happened and who was involved.

SnapFart · 04/07/2018 13:32

Apparently they had tried contacting the mother but police disclosed info which then got shared - prior to her knowledge

misscockerspaniel · 04/07/2018 13:38

The police are warning people to make sure that their houses are kept secure.

MrsJayy · 04/07/2018 13:39

It has obviously been all over the scottish news but nothing nationally which is strange that poor little girl it is beyond horrific.

checkoutchick22 · 04/07/2018 13:42

I guess, also, that the less information in the public domain makes for easier interviewing as the perpetrator would know things only they would.
And also in relation to it going to court

So very sad

LagunaBubbles · 04/07/2018 13:46

I live not far but I'm in France just now and have seen this on social media. Really sad. And sad to hear its not received much nationwide coverage to.

MrsJayy · 04/07/2018 13:46

I think the OP was meaning it wasn't on national media usually murders are it is headline news in Scotland I think there will be an arrest soon though

PasswordRejection · 04/07/2018 13:50

Sadly, I think it is because the family is involved. According to the grandparents, the little girl went missing from the house at around 6am and was found at around 9am. The chances of her leaving the house on her own then running into an opportunist attacker are, I'd imagine, very slim. I heard that her mother only found out she was missing, and then found dead, through facebook. Neither the grandparents nor father alerted her.

sineadHG · 04/07/2018 13:50

HollowTalk his mother may have remarried.........not that odd

FlyingElbows · 04/07/2018 13:50

As a pp has already said these things become national news when a child goes missing and remains missing. Tragically this outcome was concluded before many people had had breakfast. It is unnerving that the Police are not ruling out stranger abduction (although we all know that's extremely rare) and are advising the public to exercise security precautions around their children and homes. It's just an awful thing and I feel so sorry for her mother although local reports suggest several attempts were made to reach her.

What I really loathe is the wholly distasteful amateur detectives. People who can't manage sentences or logical thought giving "helpful" direction to Police Scotland via Facebook pages such as STV news. It's one thing to express condolences or shock and quite another to broadcast your "expert" knowledge of what the Police should do because you've watched too much Csi!
