Why is the story of this poor girl so far down all the news websites?

Ok Sodding I’m not going to get into a bun fight over my thoughts on the SNP on a thread like this.

SoddingUnicorns · 04/07/2018 17:55

No bunfight here, just a response to hateful shite. Same as the comment above it. I’m done now.

chillpizza · 04/07/2018 17:55

They likely have already worked out who it was. We only tend to get this strange part stories when the police already know exactly what happened and by who.

WerkSupp · 04/07/2018 18:01

My guess is that the police have a reasonable idea who did it already is why. You cannot get on or off that island between 9pm and about 5.30am unless you are in a private boat, which narrows things down quite a bit.

shakeyourcaboose · 04/07/2018 18:03

@ParkheadParadise and @soddingunicorns agree not proven has to go, and yes yes to speculative, slavering, salacious gossip mongering is fucking sickening, you ought to be ashamed of yourself.

Oldbutstillgotit · 04/07/2018 20:04

A man has been arrested .

PattiStanger · 04/07/2018 20:06

I've just had a news alert on my phone that a man has been arrested so definitely an important news story in England

user546425732 · 04/07/2018 20:07

That was quick work by the police.

Shadow1986 · 04/07/2018 20:08

I suspect the police have a good idea what has happened to the poor girl, so they are not requesting help from the public (which in other cases makes it more high profile). I expect we will hear more about this case in the coming days when the police have had time to investigate who they think has done it and are able to press charges.
Rest in peace beautiful girl.

PattiStanger · 04/07/2018 20:08

It reads to me that it's a neighbour that's been arrested and that the police probably knew from the start who it was.

Tragic case

user546425732 · 04/07/2018 20:10

I think it's significant that they have not released the age of the person arrested - it'll reduce the opportunities for speculation thank goodness.

Marmablade · 04/07/2018 20:14

Often the media is asked not to report details to avoid jeopardising the investigation.

mintich · 04/07/2018 20:15

This story is being reported elsewhere. I've been getting alerts from sky and BBC news about it

PattiStanger · 04/07/2018 20:15

I noticed that too Userwhatever, I wondered if it might be the way Scottish police do it

Hygge · 04/07/2018 20:16

I saw the story being reported on the ITV news earlier, before the arrest was made I think, and it seemed to be covered in as much detail as they had at the time.

mintich · 04/07/2018 20:17

I expect they will have known early on who the killer was. My friend was murdered and while the public thought nothing was happening, her killer was under surveillance and then investigation. Only after that was news of his arrest broadcasted

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 04/07/2018 20:25

World Cup OP

I always wonder with these cases with children . I think maybe the media are treading carefully . Nah they never do that

But you know what I mean Sad

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 04/07/2018 20:34

In a Similar vein

Many awful things happen and are undereported

The man who jumped off a cliff with his boys
The policewoman (who looked after abused women) killed by her policeman husband
The little autistic boy who starved to death when his Mum does as he could use the phone

These cases really upset me and were barely reported on . I don’t know why. Maybe they are so awful

I just wonder sometimes why some stories stick and some don’t

Nicknacky · 04/07/2018 20:34

patti It’s very common for Scottish police to release the age of the person under arrest, if fact I don’t think I have seen a media appeal without it.

Just need to wait and see if he is charged.

Talith · 04/07/2018 20:45

Like the other deleted thread re. Scottish girl - it's often best not to comment on these incidents because if a court or the CPA decides that certain people or family members have been largely painted to be the guilty ones the authorities can decide that there is no chance of a fair trial - and so the consequence is that they won't be able to bring a suspect to court. It's not to protect anyone potentially involved - far from it - it's just to allow the justice system to do it's job.

Talith · 04/07/2018 20:46

Soz - other thread was about a different incident. Same principle though.

Talith · 04/07/2018 20:48

And its not it's shame

FlyingElbows · 04/07/2018 20:49

Sadly speculation is alive and well on Facebook. It is truly awful the things some people are writing. One complete charmer has written a detailed explanation of how it was probably dad's girlfriend because she looks "smug". Others don't understand how anyone can notice a child missing at 6.25 am because people don't get up that early! It's sickening that people write this stuff. It's like a competition to see who can be first to be right. It's vile.

Nicknacky · 04/07/2018 20:54

The comments are completely appalling. Particularly the ones that are desperate to be proved right “see I told my husband it was the dad” (clearly I’m not saying it was)!
