Why is the story of this poor girl so far down all the news websites?

That poor little girl and her poor poor family, what they must be going through...

I am in that heartland of English self obsessiveness, London, and had read this sad and shocking news from the first few hours of it happening, in the main news channels.

I wonder if perhaps posters have been confused by the muted and carefully neutral tone of the reporting? The newspapers haven’t been grabbing a salacious angle and digging up a ton of irrelevant ‘facts’ and ‘on the ground interviews’ etc... it’s all felt rather careful and one dimensional.

With no attempt to build a media hyped story, just reporting the facts, no wonder people have noticed and pondered over the difference?

The police have had tight control over reporting right from the off. And with the quick and clear arrest of an under 18yr old, that’s probably why.

As another poster said uptgread more eloquently than I can, all we need to know is out there already. And that’s that this beloved, innocent little girl has gone, and she’s the most important person we should focus on and hold in our thoughts. Alesha MacPhail, just 6 yrs old.

As PP have said it was headline news across TV and radio in England.

Those saying it was too far down the list on internet news sites do realise that the algorithms for those sites are based on what stories people click on?

Xenia · 06/07/2018 10:56

..One reason tro pay for a good quality newspaper (I pay for the Financial Times and the Times and listen to Radio 4) rather than just rely on internet "news".

ParkheadParadise · 06/07/2018 11:20

From very personal experience I really hope the family are left in peace to grieve in private.

Butteredparsn1ps · 06/07/2018 13:13

Yes Yes Parkhead Flowers

SoddingUnicorns · 06/07/2018 14:20

Thanks to stupidity this statement has had to be released by the police and Crown Office.

Always has been top of the news stories here in Central Scotland; she comes from the next town along from me, though.

Poor little tot. I hope the right person has been charged and, if appropriate, they are tried as an adult.

SparklyMagpie · 06/07/2018 16:07

That 16 year old monster has appeared in court charged with rape and murder

I cannot even attempt to begin to imagine what that little girl must have gone through and her family!

Truly truly heartbreaking Sad

scrivette · 06/07/2018 16:08

Just seen that. Poor little girl.

SparklyMagpie · 06/07/2018 16:09

Really knocked me :( how as a parent do you ever come to terms with that?

Can't get how frightened that poor baby would have been :(

MrsJayy · 06/07/2018 16:10

I have just come on to say he has been charged with rape and murder. It is just too much that poor wee girl and her family

Groovee · 06/07/2018 16:14

That poor wee girl. My heart breaks for her and her family x

Pflt · 06/07/2018 16:16

Hideous. I have a daughter the same age and of course all her little school friends are about 6 as well. I can't even think about it. That poor little girl and her poor family. It's unbearable.

BlueSapp · 06/07/2018 16:19

Poor wee thing, Angry what a monster to have done this to that wee innocent child, sometimes life is just not fair.Sad

brizzledrizzle · 06/07/2018 16:28

That poor girl and her family.
How on earth can anybody do that to a child?

DearMrDilkington · 06/07/2018 16:30

I hope he suffers every single second for the rest of his life, complete monster.Angry

I can't imagine what agony her family must be in. My heart breaks for them, it's all so cruel. Sad

MrsJumbo · 06/07/2018 16:48

I feel sick to my stomach. That poor baby and her poor parents. How will they be able to live with this? Just devastating and heartbreaking Sad

MycatsaPirate · 06/07/2018 17:02

Parkheadparadise I'm so sorry about your DD and about the hideous Not Proven verdict. My attacker got a Not Proven verdict and it is just horrible. There is no sense of Justice having been served.

I am horrified that poor little Alesha was raped. God only knows how terrified she must have been. Her poor parents will have to live with that knowledge forever, hell mend whoever did this and took her little life.

Words sometimes fail me.

Xenia · 06/07/2018 17:04

I am not sure posters above are respective Scottish and English law that people are innocent until proven guilty.

RecliningMadness · 06/07/2018 17:46

That poor baby girl. It is utterly shocking and heartbreaking.

And for a 16 year old to possibly be the person who did it?? I can't imagine what his parents are going through either.

RunMummyRun68 · 06/07/2018 20:33

No mention of his dad, just his mum

She could so easily be one of 'us' SadI've got a boy the same age. Horrific to imagine

That poor sweet girl

Bibesia · 07/07/2018 13:17

Please can people remember that no-one has been convicted of any crime, and that the person charged has a right to a fair trial. Putting inflammatory and abusive posts on here that assume guilt could mean the trial having to be abandoned.

Whatevszz · 11/07/2018 23:04

I don't know where else to post this, I'm not related but do visit the island often. And I'm just so so sad about what happened. I can't stop thinking about it, does anyone have any advice? NB I have a history of anxiety and depression but have been fine for years.

Also, sorry for making it about me, I don't want to and have donated to the family fund etc. I just wondered if my reaction is normal or if I should try and see someone?

Tomatoesrock · 11/07/2018 23:12

Whatevszz I am sorry you are feeling like that, It is bound to have an extra effect knowing the area well, been able to visualise where it happened. It is a heartbreaking situation such a beautiful little girl.

The world has gone batshit, a vicious horrible place what happened to that little girl is the worst possible thing that can happen to any child. You are grieving for her and that is ok.
