Why is the story of this poor girl so far down all the news websites?

I suppose in a close knit community putting it on fb reaches your friends and neighbours quickly so they could start helping to search.

LittleBlackKitten · 04/07/2018 17:14

I see that fucking professional racist Katie Hopkins has jumped in trying to link this with the fact the Scottish Govt housed Syrian refugees on Bute!

I'm loathe to even mention her name and give her the attention she craves, but it needs calling out. Same when the story broke, before police were even saying it was suspicious, there were trolls on Twitter mentioning Syrian refugees!

Angry Angry Angry

ParkheadParadise · 04/07/2018 17:18

@BangingOn
Unfortunately he walked free on a NOT PROVAN verdict. Only available in Scotland. He lives on the same street as my sister. I never knew it was possible to absolutely HATE someone.

SoddingUnicorns · 04/07/2018 17:22

I knew some fucker would bring up the Syrian refugees. Angry not even slightly surprised that it was Hopkins, she’s just a disgusting person.

Caroline Glachan was indeed headline news, however the fact you’ve only been able to think of a 22 year old case kind of (sadly) proves my point.

SoddingUnicorns · 04/07/2018 17:22

Parkhead I’m gutted he got a not proven. It’s an aspect of our legal system that needs to be stopped, it’s just awful.

BangingOn · 04/07/2018 17:23

@ParkheadParadise that’s horrific, I’m so sorry that justice wasn’t done for your family.

PolkerrisBeach · 04/07/2018 17:26

Parkhead - it's never any consolation but everyone in Scotland KNOWS that a "not proven" verdict means guilty as sin, but that the Police haven't put together enough evidence. We know. People will know. Everyone in your town/village will be pointing fingers at this person forever and quite rightly too.

User467 · 04/07/2018 17:26

I think the reason it doesn't seem like it has been a bigger story is that she was found very soon after being reported missing. If she had been missing for days then it would have been much more in the headlines.

Her being missing was in the local press very quickly and there's nothing with the granny or whoever posting on Facebook. Local Facebook groups, especially in small communities, can be the quickest way to spread news/find someone.
I really think it's unfair on the family and the tiny community to speculate on anything else

SoddingUnicorns · 04/07/2018 17:27

@PolkerrisBeach completely agree.

What the hell has that got to do with anything? My children have a different surname to me. If one went missing, would you question why we have different surnames? Absolute idiot.

catinboots9 · 04/07/2018 17:31

Oh @ParkheadParadise

Thanks Sad

How awful I am truly sorry for you

xx

ParkheadParadise · 04/07/2018 17:31

@SoddingUnicorns
The Scottish government had a consultation in 2012 to abolish the not proven verdict. We are now in 2018 and nothing has changed sadly.

ParkheadParadise · 04/07/2018 17:32

@PolkerrisBeach
Thank you that means a lot.

SoddingUnicorns · 04/07/2018 17:33

@ParkheadParadise that’s awful. My grandfather was at the Bar and tried to abolish it away back years ago and got nowhere too.

It gives a get out clause to the guilty imo, and does nothing for the innocent either. It benefits the guilty and tars the innocent, it needs to go.

I’m sorry your family and your DD didn’t get the justice you should have had.

PolkerrisBeach · 04/07/2018 17:34

Agree that a "missing child" story would have generated much more covering. The timing was such that there was an extremely short gap between the initial report to the police and the body being found - only two or three hours. By the time press and websites were picking up the story, she'd been found.

And as others have said, we have no idea whether the press have been asked NOT to reveal details, discuss the family, other people in the local area, whatever. It's not like a national case where they're appealing for people to watch out all over the UK for a missing child. It's a very local case which only people on Bute can help with.

I don't believe a word of the "it doesn't matter because she's Scottish" nonsense. Cases like Liam Fee were headlines news for week, as was the Mikael Kular case - moreso the Kular case as the mother (who'd killed him) had reported him missing.

WinnieFosterTether · 04/07/2018 17:34

I'd imagine there is the amount of coverage that the police want at this point.

RIP little one Flowers

MissEliza · 04/07/2018 17:36

Op YANBU. I've had to go out my way to find anything about this. It's awful. Poor little girl.

Dahlietta · 04/07/2018 17:37

Why isn’t it headline news? Because she was Scottish.

It was headline news on the BBC news front page the day they found her. It's also been all over the Mail Online (if that counts as news).

musicinthe00ssucks · 04/07/2018 17:42

The English tend to be completely ignorant that there is a country north of the border. Most English people don't know much Scottish geography either.

Absolutely stupid comment. A child is dead and for that I and, I’m sure, millions of other non-Scottish people are incredibly upset over. But carry on with the anti English agenda, Nicola Sturgeon would be proud of you.

ButchyRestingFace · 04/07/2018 17:46

She was put into the Care of her Grandparents and her Father. I read a really early report, when her Mother had found out on FB that she was missing.

No idea where you got that from. Hmm Every report I've seen says the child lived in Coatbridge (Lanarkshire) with her mother and younger sibling. She was staying on the island for 3 weeks with her father and grandparents.

As for the cat, well cats need fed and watered, etc. Can't imagine the family are in any hurry to go back in the house and probably wouldn't be able to in the near future. It looks like police are forensically searching the place. Last thing they'll want is a cat in the road.

SoddingUnicorns · 04/07/2018 17:49

The English tend to be completely ignorant that there is a country north of the border. Most English people don't know much Scottish geography either

ODFOD comments like that are ignorant and unhelpful. Not to mention xenophobic, and unfair.

music labelling Nicola Sturgeon as anti English is equally as ignorant btw and just proves you don’t know what you’re talking about.

OliviaStabler · 04/07/2018 17:49

I had to search to get news on this story yesterday. I think they suspect who did it but are talking about the 'stranger abduction' as a ruse to make the suspect relax.

I hope they catch whoever it is.

Awful situation Flowers

SoddingUnicorns · 04/07/2018 17:50

This! This kind of speculative, slavering, salacious gossip mongering is fucking sickening, you ought to be ashamed of yourself.

MissEliza · 04/07/2018 17:52

I wonder if the Police are asking the press to avoid speculation and therefore there's not much to write about. However I did see a photograph of the poor mother looking at flowers which is a bullshit thing to do.
