Yes, I do understand that people are excited about the football, but it’s Tuesday night and my DC, who is completely exhausted, has to get up early for school - the rather scary shouting has just woken her up. Yep, I know someone will say I should move to the middle of nowhere. I would love to - as many people would - but sadly that’s not possible.

Statistics show that violence against women happens more during the World Cup. It doesn’t mean all abusers use it as an excuse but it does increase. I’m sure it’s the same in other countries too. Russia for example have a huge DV problem as it is so I wouldn’t be surprised if victims suffer more during the World Cup or the Euro’s or whatever.

Wonkypalmtree · 03/07/2018 22:37

I loved that I could hear neighbours cheering! It was me that woke my dc, I got told off by them and we all moved on....

JacquesHammer · 03/07/2018 22:37

Isn’t it handy that the people that are being routinely and aggressively pestered are the ones who want to make a point in MN Wink

Interestingly with regards to anyone who looks “non English”, I live in a melting pot in terms of racial tension. It has been so much BETTER this last few weeks it’s wonderful.

RhubarbRhubarbRhubarbRhubarb gosh that was a long comment for someone who isn’t interested haha 😀 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

Log it with the police on 101

No need, it won’t be happening again Wink

Bayleaf25 · 03/07/2018 22:38

ReanimatedSGB But what about people who bore us about Wimbledon or Rugby or Politics? And to be fair no one other than DH has tried to have a conversation with me about football??

imnotreally · 03/07/2018 22:38

Oh that’s what the noise is about.

augustusglupe · 03/07/2018 22:39

Oh I’m in Wales and I’m English and I give a fuckin shit Grin
C’MON ENGLAND!!!!!

Amanduh · 03/07/2018 22:39

We’ve just won on penalties for the first time. EVER. Neighbours cheering loudly. and me My 18mo was up this morning at 6am shouting about books for the whole neighbourhood to hear so its all about the give and take.
ENGERLAND!

FoxySamanthaPetersonTheCat · 03/07/2018 22:39

Oh and OP chill out it’s every 4 years. The pub in the next road must have been shaking judging by the noise coming from there during the penalties. I don’t even care that much about football.

RhubarbRhubarbRhubarbRhubarb · 03/07/2018 22:39

Oh sorry, was it? I do have a tendency to waffle on here!

I was just responding to the “unadulterated good news for the UK” comment, which I thought was over egging it somewhat Smile.

UserX · 03/07/2018 22:39

I really hope england win I think the football fans and the UK need some unadulterated good news

You mean other than the country is going to shit because of Brexit & other assorted Tory policies? Winning the World Cup is not going to help with that love, it’s just going to make the gammon even nastier.

Completely agree with you OP. Total assholes in the pub down the street making as much noise is if they were in wembley. God save the queen & footballs coming home (no it isn’t, they barely hung on against Colombia ffs) sung very badly interspersed with Who the fucking hell are you chants. We have our windows closed and the pub is a block away but they might as well have been in our lounge.

The sooner they go out the better. I’m not sorry for being a fun sucker but the rest of you aren’t sorry for being assholes so we’re even.

SilverySurfer · 03/07/2018 22:40

What a bunch of moany whiners. It's 10pm not 3am and as another PP said, bet you don't care when it's your offspring rampaging and disturbing your neighbours.

I hate football but totally understand why people are excited.

Boooommm · 03/07/2018 22:40

This thread is hilarious. England last won a shoot out before most of is were born. Get over yourselves.
What a load if kill joys. I can't bear people who love near pubs moaning about noise. Don't live near a pub (or school or park or city centre.....) If you find noise irritating. I can hear the pub behind me now full of happy drunk people and it's a joyous sound.

RhubarbRhubarbRhubarbRhubarb · 03/07/2018 22:40

But then, I’m not even English 🤷‍♀️. Maybe it IS unadulterated good news for all mankind... or something.

Notcontent · 03/07/2018 22:40

Wow! I didn’t expect so many responses!

Just in case anyone is interested, my windows ARE closed, despite the heat.

And the reason why DD is exhausted is because she has had a long, tough school year, it’s hot, she has to get early every morning, and she is a growing girl who ideally needs 10 hours of sleep but has not been getting it recently thanks to constant noise from partying neighbours, etc!!!

aintnousernamelikenousername · 03/07/2018 22:41

I really do think people who are annoyed by this just need to stop thinking the world revolves around them and their childs sleeping pattern. Like others have said, it IS something to celebrate for a LOT of people and so they will, except in the cases of excessive noise its not usually prolonged or ridiculously loud either.

NoNotheresnolyrics · 03/07/2018 22:41

It’s just nice to have a break from people moaning about leaving the EU haha 😂

Engerland woop woop 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

Its coming home.....

What possible material benefit will England winning a trophy in a tournament bring to anyone in this country? Yeah, let's forget about being economically shafted, the NHS being on its knees, kids living in poverty, xenophobia, job insecurity, because some overpaid muppets finally pulled their finger out and worked for the hundreds of thousands they get paid per week.

Best comment on here. Grin

It’s only once every four years! And we actually won on penalties for once! 😳

#itscominghome

RhubarbRhubarbRhubarbRhubarb · 03/07/2018 22:42

I couldn’t care less about the happy noises. I can’t actually hear any of it, but it wouldn’t bother me. It’s just a bit cringe to me for some reason. I really don’t know why. It’s like, too much of a stereotype I can’t believe people ACTUALLY do it iyswim? Not just English people I hasten to add.

fieryginger · 03/07/2018 22:42

Got to admit, I love watering the garden and hearing the houses erupt. It's nice!

dontbesillyhenry · 03/07/2018 22:42

God sakes so do all kids...you make out like she's the most precious girl in the world

ReanimatedSGB · 03/07/2018 22:43

Again: it's not 'the country being happy'. Some people are enjoying watching something on the telly: fine. But rather a lot of people are going to be disturbing their neighbours, annoying their workmates, brawling in the street and assaulting their partners. It's not 'unadulterated good news' - it's awful news for some people and a crashing bore for others.
