Yes, I do understand that people are excited about the football, but it’s Tuesday night and my DC, who is completely exhausted, has to get up early for school - the rather scary shouting has just woken her up. Yep, I know someone will say I should move to the middle of nowhere. I would love to - as many people would - but sadly that’s not possible.

For those who commit violence, a loss exacerbates it, or to put in words that perhaps you can understand, when we lose, partners who are violent hit their partners more.

Sadly, a win also exacerbates it. I can't describe how much my stomach turns at the thought of violent, drunk men using football as an excuse to abuse and assault others. It's an embarrassment and a disgrace.

bsbabas · 03/07/2018 22:29

I really hope england win I think the football fans and the UK need some unadulterated good news

Everytimeref · 03/07/2018 22:29

We have had fireworks here!!

HyacinthsBucket70 · 03/07/2018 22:30

Are you kidding???! That was gripping - our dogs thought it was a party and joined in Grin. And we NEVER watch football in this house normally. It's once every 4 years and normally we'd all be hiding behind the sofas in shame. NOT TONIGHT!!!! Well done lads!!!!

NoNotheresnolyrics · 03/07/2018 22:31

Having been in a violent relationship in the past myself - everything caused him to blow up on me, from a burnt dinner to getting up for work and waking him up.

You can’t blame football or anything else for that matter. The only thing to blame is the violent person.

Bibesia · 03/07/2018 22:31

male violence isn’t caused by football - surely there are other complex factors at play

Obviously, but there is a known correlation between England losing and indeed winning in big matches and an increase in domestic violence.

ReanimatedSGB · 03/07/2018 22:31

The worst thing about this tedious shit is that the people who like it cannot stop pestering the rest of us about it. WE DON'T CARE. We're not interested. It's not even the occasional bit of yelling and yawping - which, OK, is not that much worse than the level of noise you might generally get in an urban area on a warm night, especially if you're near a pub. It's the fact that people keep trying to have conversations with you about some men chasing a ball around a field, and won't stop even when you tell them, nicely, that it's not something you're interested in.
And, if you're not English, or look like you might be not English, it can be a little bit unnerving to be passing a football fan pub during international sports events.

Time40 · 03/07/2018 22:31

I had lots of outdoor screaming a little while ago. It was football-related, was it? I wonder why people were going outdoors to scream? I mean - they would all have been inside, watching TV, wouldn't they? Or is this what it does to people - makes them so over-excited that they just have to get out and run around yelling?

Timeisslippingaway · 03/07/2018 22:31

NoNotheresnolyrics,
Actually domestic violence increases massively when football is involved, it's statistical fact.

crispysausagerolls · 03/07/2018 22:32

Some people are so mean-spirited

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 03/07/2018 22:33

Long may it continue, 🤞🏼For a noisy Saturday afternoon.

NoNotheresnolyrics · 03/07/2018 22:33

ReanimatedSGB nobody has pestered me about it? I’m not even a football fan myself.

You lot are fucking miserable

KS34 · 03/07/2018 22:33

Of course it's a disgrace that football is used as an excuse for violence, but it doesn't turn the vast majority of people into violent arseholes. I have such happy memories of being a kid during the 1990 world cup when England reached the semis and would love my kids to feel the same excitement this time round.

apresski · 03/07/2018 22:34

Ridiculously overpaid entitled individuals - no YANBU, why do we endorse this crap?! If we put as much time, effort and thought into the politics of this country; think what we might achieve...!

Bahhhhhumbug · 03/07/2018 22:34

Twitterqueen l agree with you. I got one squaring up to me in the pub once and s reaming in my face that l was a miserable cow because l wasn't joining in the celebrations when England scored. Having the audacity to shout back at him that I'm Irish and don't give a flying one about English football resulted in him having to be physically restrained by a few other customers from trying to get to me to hit me or whatever going from his body language. Anything ( but especially football) that increases alcohol intake or length of time drinking definitely increases dv.
Put it this way l wouldn't have liked to be the little woman waiting at home for my angry friend but then again l refused to be intimidated by him in a public place.

HairDyedPink · 03/07/2018 22:34

Why is your DC so “completely exhausted” on a Tuesday night?
end of the school year and it's rather hot, they all are at this time of year. If they have actually done something during that year I guess.

EthelHornsby · 03/07/2018 22:35

England won a penalty shootout - it won’t happen again

RhubarbRhubarbRhubarbRhubarb · 03/07/2018 22:35

I really hope england win I think the football fans and the UK need some unadulterated good news

Unadulterated good news though? I just couldn’t give a shit about it at all. If England lost today... couldn’t give a shit. If England wins the cup... nope, couldn’t give a shit. It’s nice that people have a hobby and all that. And I like that people get together to watch it, but honestly all that “come on England” crap just makes me cringe. Not for me. I don’t mind it, but it isn’t good news if England wins. It isn’t news at all to me 🤷‍♀️.

Hermagsjesty · 03/07/2018 22:35

YABU. It’s once every four years and it’s a massive deal to football supporters to get this far. Lighten up.

wagil · 03/07/2018 22:36

Fireworks round here too, people are happy, I'm pleased for them.

Unfinishedkitchen · 03/07/2018 22:36

What a misery guts. Let the country be happy ffs. Wonder how many times your kid has woken people up early in the morning?

Maryann1975 · 03/07/2018 22:36

I kept the kids up to watch the game. Who knows when we will get this far in the competition again.
