DD1 is in year 9. Going into year 10.

Thursday her History teacher took up a meter stick and smashed it on the table into tiny pieces in rage as he yelled at the whole class for someone not shutting the door.

The teacher has hallucinations and anger issues and has taught at the school since September.

DD1 came home in tears as she was terrified since he was telling that the tigers were coming to get them!

AIBU to bring this up in school? DD1 and her entire class were so scared.

You said it was emailed did you not?

smithsinarazz · 02/07/2018 23:37

@MarthaArthur, for goodness' sake, if the OP's kid tells her something happened while she was present that isn't "gossip". It's a first-hand account, even if the witness was a kid. That doesn't mean that all first-hand accounts are reliable. But you seem to be implying that a child's account must be "bullshit" and that's a really dangerous assumption to make.

@plumsofwrath, honestly, being so hardened to violence that nothing short of a mass shooting will move you to tears isn't a good state of affairs. Move!

chattybee · 02/07/2018 23:38

I thought the same. But anything updated is placed on the cover board in the morning.
Room changes happen when teachers are absent.

Two parents are a teacher / TA.
They know a lot and give out minimal information to the parents sometimes. Bad I know. But at least I know it's not teen gossip.

How would you feel if they were telling everyone your DDs medical history?

8sleepyducks · 02/07/2018 23:39

Why would you change rooms there is no reason to if the class is normally in there?

chattybee · 02/07/2018 23:39

Year 9 and above emailed at 7:30PM but if any changes happen which isn't too often it's on the cover board the next morning.

The ops childs story was proven to be bullshit and then got murkier and murkier. Its very dangerous to assume all accusations of this nature should be believed on the merit of someone who couldnt even tell a straight story. A story that was then added to by teenage gossip then parental gossip and then apparently teacher to parent gossip.

TheBigFatMermaid · 02/07/2018 23:39

I repeat, if his mental health is generally well managed, and this has just been a blip, then 5 days is ample time for his return to his working life.

8sleepyducks · 02/07/2018 23:39

Also why would a history teacher need a meter ruler? Science maybe but history 😕

FrillySpidersWillies · 02/07/2018 23:40

Today 23:12 chattybee

Students in year 9 or above get sent an emailed 7:30PM sharp stating if it is confirmed they are scheduled and coming in the next day. DD1s email said he would be back.

Ok, your daughter gets an email. If you are concerned contact your Local Authority’s Safeguarding Officer. Though I do think that your daughters school will do everything to prevent anything happening and their pupils safety will be their main concern.

chattybee · 02/07/2018 23:41

Meter sticks are kept in every classroom In storage closets

SemperIdem · 02/07/2018 23:41

I assumed Martha was referring to the TA’s sharing info with parents when she referred to “adult gossip”, smith.

chattybee · 02/07/2018 23:41

The account was not bullshit? She told it first hand, which was true.

OP posts:
Chickoletta · 02/07/2018 23:42

I call BULLSHIT.

I have worked in 5 different schools and been to many more and have never seen a public cover board. There is simply no reason why parents/pupils need to know when a teacher is absent. They go to the classroom and if the teacher is not in school, a cover teacher arrives.

FissionChips · 02/07/2018 23:42

Do you think the school should listen to you over the doctor or OT of the teacher?

8sleepyducks · 02/07/2018 23:42

How can they email year 9 and above the evening before if staff won't call in sick or with childcare emergencies until the morning?

The majority of cover is planned in a very short space of time before the school day starts.

MarthaArthur · 02/07/2018 23:42

Well then she missed out a huge chunk of the story to make it seem more dramatic. Then was apparently incredibly upset but consoled herself enough to take her phone out in class to take a photo.

8sleepyducks · 02/07/2018 23:44

Every classroom has a storage cupboard 😂

MarthaArthur · 02/07/2018 23:44

I should say i was a TA for a time and none of this would habe gone down in the school district i worked in. As above poster said the absense board is weird. Every school i have ever been in north and south england never had them. Students to ti their classroom where a supply teacher will be waiting.

8sleepyducks · 02/07/2018 23:45

I think the OP is suffering from hallucinations 🤦‍♀️

RedBallpointPens · 02/07/2018 23:45

Anyone sharing reasons for being off should be sacked for gross misconduct.

Either you trust the school to protect your DC (so send then in) or you don't (so look for another school).

It isn't really complicated unless all you are after is gossip.

chattybee · 02/07/2018 23:45

Picture was taken after class. She calmed down but got worked up again..

OP posts:
8sleepyducks · 02/07/2018 23:46

@Chickoletta yeah me too, doesn't sound like any school I've worked in either

FrillySpidersWillies · 02/07/2018 23:46

Lol every class has a storage cupboard Grin

Metre sticks Grin

We barely have a pencil this time of the year 😂

chattybee · 02/07/2018 23:47

Wtf? The meter stick is in the storage closet I stated.
