DD1 is in year 9. Going into year 10.

Thursday her History teacher took up a meter stick and smashed it on the table into tiny pieces in rage as he yelled at the whole class for someone not shutting the door.

The teacher has hallucinations and anger issues and has taught at the school since September.

DD1 came home in tears as she was terrified since he was telling that the tigers were coming to get them!

AIBU to bring this up in school? DD1 and her entire class were so scared.

Do you think the school should listen to you over the doctor or OT of the teacher?

For all we know, the OP could be a MH specialist who does know more than the HT/the teachers actual doctor (who is aware of his history) and the specialists the teacher has probably seen.

Hmm

"Picture was taken after class. She calmed down but got worked up again.."

Why was she in the same classroom after class? She should have moved onto her next lesson in a different area of the school ...

SemperIdem · 02/07/2018 23:47

Why would every classroom have a meter stick in the storage cupboard though?

FrillySpidersWillies · 02/07/2018 23:47

It is misconduct and taking photos in school is also a safeguarding issue OP

alibongo5 · 02/07/2018 23:47

Every classroom has a storage cupboard 😂 ...and when the teacher got upset, he went to the storage cupboard to get the stick out to hit it on the table!

Misericord · 02/07/2018 23:48

Are you a medical professional, OP? Or work in occupational health? Or mental health services?

If not, stating 5 days isn’t enough is totally speculative nonsense, and the sort of reason people are afraid to disclose mental health issues in the workplace.

chattybee · 02/07/2018 23:48

Maybe because it was the last lesson of the day......?

OP posts:
8sleepyducks · 02/07/2018 23:49

So why wasn't she rushing out to go home if she was so traumatised?

FrillySpidersWillies · 02/07/2018 23:49

Is Metre Stick the new Pombear Bear

marymoosmum · 02/07/2018 23:50

Ok everyone keeps saying it is a mental health problem, he is hallucinating, that is a sign of a serious mental health problem if that is what it is, or it could be a form of Alzheimer's.

chattybee · 02/07/2018 23:51

She gets a bus home. Ffs

FrillySpidersWillies · 02/07/2018 23:51

Sempereldem it sounds like Cludo, it was Mr East in the storage cupboard with a metre stick! Grin

pieceofpurplesky · 02/07/2018 23:51

I want a metre stick In my cupboard Wink great euphemism.

Seriously - a year 9 using the phrase 'bugger off' is enough for me to call bullshit

Cutyourshakehole · 02/07/2018 23:51

“Meter sticks are kept in every classroom in storage closets”

Just incase anyone feels the need to whack a table or attack a tiger...except in maths. Obviously. There’s no tigers in the maths class.

8sleepyducks · 02/07/2018 23:52

Nope, not understanding what a bus has to do with it

Oakmaiden · 02/07/2018 23:52

I suspect there is a bit of exaggeration going on here - whether by the daughter, her classmates or the OP it is hard to say.

However, I am certain the teacher will not be returning until he is fit to do so. Particularly as it appears that this incident is known about by everyone in the school. The school would not allow it, and I am sure he wouldn't want to.

Poor man.

chattybee · 02/07/2018 23:52

Girl was 13...
DD1 said it didn't sound literal

OP posts:
MarthaArthur · 02/07/2018 23:53

What purpose did she have to go back into her history classroom if she had a bus to catch? Why did she go back in if she was so traumatised? Why did she get worked up again, go back and take photos? Odd.

FrillySpidersWillies · 02/07/2018 23:53

Alzheimer’s is a recognised mental illness or so I thought. In all seriousness speak to your daughters HOY OP. We can’t tell you what we don’t know.

chattybee · 02/07/2018 23:54

I'm just saying what DD1 is saying to me and on her account.
The bus cant cater for her and go any quicker for her can it..

OP posts:
Cutyourshakehole · 02/07/2018 23:54

Martha, obviously she had to check the door was locked so the tigers couldn’t escape. Seen the dead metre stick, and thought, bugger, I really should take a photo of this.

MarthaArthur · 02/07/2018 23:56

cutyour why is that the most plausable explanation so far? 😂

chattybee · 02/07/2018 23:56

Realise she wasn't actually scared of tigers getting her she was so scared cause he was shouting it repeatedly over and over? She's 13 ffs.

OP posts:
MarthaArthur · 02/07/2018 23:57

The bus cant cater for her and go any quicker for her can it

What does this mean? Surely she should have been at the bus stop waiting for it.

Cutyourshakehole · 02/07/2018 23:57

@chattybee sorry ffs
