So in light of the fact we are experiencing a heatwave & still have a few months of Summer to go please tell me about your favourite UK beach resort/destination.

Unfortunately my knowledge is pretty limited as my parents whisked us away to their respective countries for every holiday & we therefore only had the odd day/weekend trip to the beach.

Depends on where you are, what you want to do and what family you have. In Cornwall
Mawgan Porth is great but can get busy,
Watergate is big enough to get a quiet spot
Porthcothan is usually not too busy.
If you don't mind a walk and a beach with no sand there is a lovely little cove with a lagoon and a stream on the coastal path between Porthcothan and Bedruthen steps beaches.

In the Gower
Rhosilli Caswell and Oxwich are my favourites

In Pembrokeshire
I like Tenby despite it being busy and touristy - if you want quiet the Penally end of the beach is better. Also you can take the boat to Caldey Island and swim on the beach you land on - it is usually quite quiet as tourists tend not to be there for the beach.

In Northumberland
Bambourgh and Seahouses and anywhere in between

On the South Coast Hayling Island is not as busy as the Witterings.
Robin Hood Bay, Freshwater and Shanklin on the Isle of Wight

Just wish I was on a beach and not stuck in the smoke....

@Missbrick1 we have just had a week at clacton on sea, not too far for a short break for you really. The kids loved the pier and the beach, loads to do and everyone was so polite! Even the teenagers were apologetic if they walked in front of you!

Woodyden · 03/07/2018 18:37

South Beach in Tenby and then get the boat over to Caldey Island and the beach there is incredible :)

Dorsetdays · 03/07/2018 19:49

Another vote for Studland - just beautiful plus good mix of water sports for those who like that. Plus, what’s not to love about ice creams delivered to the beach by a speedboat...

Also love Shell Bay, just along from Studland as loads of fab childhood memories and very unspoilt. Plus a fab seafood restaurant right on the beach.

Swanage is great for a traditional seaside family resort.

Kimmeridge fab for rockpooling and fossils.

Think you can see why the username!

Rhosneigr, Anglesey

SallyCinnamon3009 · 03/07/2018 21:22

Hi sorry don't know how to mention people in a post

First beach was St Ives

Middle on was called Porthcurno which is below the Minnak Theatre near Penzance and the third was Corbis Bay which is near St Ives

We also visited Fistral beach in Newquay which was probs the best for facilities such as bars and restaurants. If you do go Porthcurno take plenty of 20ps as you have to pay for the toilets and it's a long walk up some steps to get to them

UrsulaPandress · 03/07/2018 21:24

I love Anglesey but honestly Rhosneigr beach doesn't have much going for it.

The beach at cuckoo spit and back towards Lion Rock is much nicer.

Mollie85 I was just coming on to say Cobo as well!

This was taken last week, it’s five minutes from my office and about 15 minutes on a bad day from my house.

Guernsey is surrounded by beautiful beaches and I loved growing up here and still living here.

Another for Woolacombe!

... and the cafe does the best cream tea I have ever eaten. Scones that melt in your mouth and delicious home made jam...

Moominmammaatsea · 03/07/2018 21:41

Whitesands Bay near to St David’s in Pembrokeshire & the beach that runs up from Craster village to Dunstanburgh Castle in Northumberland (not sure of its actual name)

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 03/07/2018 21:45

We live near West Wittering, but never go because it’s impossibly busy.
Marazion in Cornwall and Mullion Cove
Westward Ho! In Devon

Trialsmum · 03/07/2018 21:45

The Isle of Man has some beautiful beaches.
My favourite is ds’s ‘secret beach’ because we can walk to it, but I’m not sure how it fares as a holiday destination...

Keeptrudging · 03/07/2018 21:49

St Ninian's Isle in Shetland and Bay of Skaill in Orkney. Both absolutely stunning, often deserted and unspoilt.

I love Frinton and Walton. Beautiful clean beaches, when the tide is out masses of beach to play on. Really fun and relatively safe to swim. We fish, body board, go shrimping and crabbing, wind surfing. Look for fossils at the Naze. It’s really lovely!

Joss Bay, Broadstairs. A short walk from where we live.

practicallyperfectinmyway · 03/07/2018 22:38

Cambusdarach beach, near Morar
Elie beach in Fife

LockedOutOfMN · 03/07/2018 22:42

Croyde is gorgeous. I'm pretty sure it's in Devon.

Went to Falmouth for work 2 summers ago and that's lovely. Went to a great beach there (just west of the town centre and harbour) with an amazing sounding Cornish name, Gyllyngvase. (We stayed at the lovely spa hotel which overlooks the beach. Amazing, huge rooms).

Also Whitstable and Tankerton in Kent are glorious places for a day trip from London. We visit whenever we're in the U.K.

AsTheMilesTheyDisappear · 03/07/2018 22:43

Embleton and Ross in Northumberland.
Church Bay on Anglesey

MadRainbow · 03/07/2018 22:47

@missbrick considering young kids I would actually recommend Clacton or Walton. Clacton pier is constantly improving atm, I've lived here for 18 years and now I have my own kids I can appreciate how good it is

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 03/07/2018 22:48

I love Lyme Regis - pretty little historic town and the sandy bit of the beach isn't huge, but v good for young children. Sea is (usually) calm and v safe for swimming. No good if you want surfing-type waves, though.
Everything is a short walk away, and there's a great pub/restaurant virtually on the beach - you can sit out while kids play within easy eye-shot on the sand.
We have taken very little ones there and will def. do so again.

The area is great for fossil hunting - next door Charmouth beach is best, but there are stacks of ammonites inc. big ones, just sitting there on Lyme's non sandy beaches.

DragonMamma · 03/07/2018 23:07

I love Kynance and Carbis Bay in Cornwall but the best beaches are in west Wales. We have a holiday place there and Freshwater, Barafundle and Coppett Hall are our favourites. Tenby is lovely but can get best but the DC love Caldey Island
