So in light of the fact we are experiencing a heatwave & still have a few months of Summer to go please tell me about your favourite UK beach resort/destination.

Unfortunately my knowledge is pretty limited as my parents whisked us away to their respective countries for every holiday & we therefore only had the odd day/weekend trip to the beach.

I love Hayle and St Ives. Favourite beach is Porthminster -it really feels like being abroad

IthinkIsawahairbrushbackthere · 02/07/2018 14:42

Just about anywhere in Pembrokeshire although we avoid Tenby and Saundersfoot as they get very busy. Our favourites are St Brides, Broad Haven South and Sandy Haven.

Sashkin · 02/07/2018 14:46

Broadstairs. Botany Bay, Joss Bay, Viking Bay. Or any of the little coves in between. All marvellous.

North Norfolk (Cromer or Sheringham for seaside towns, Holkham or Wells for just beaches)

The Channel Islands (particularly by Gorey Common)

Mablethorpe

Broadstairs. Botany Bay, Joss Bay, Viking Bay. Or any of the little coves in between. All marvellous. We used to live a stone's throw from Stone Bay. Happy days! Now in a landlocked area Sad

Barmaid101 · 02/07/2018 15:00

Alnmouth I really like, also Coldingham Sands near Eyemouth

FuzzyCustard · 02/07/2018 15:03

Crackington Haven and Trebarwith Strand in north Cornwall.

Fifthtimelucky · 02/07/2018 15:14

My most frequented beach now is West Wittering, as it's easily doable as a day trip. I don't much like it though.

Give me Cornwall and Pembrokeshire any day. In Cornwall: Sandymouth, Treyarnon Bay, Trebarwith Strand, and Kynance Cove. In Pembrokeshire: Broadhaven South, Barrafundle Bay or Manorbier.

Lots of other lovely beaches if not intending to swim, including Freshwater West (Pembrokeshire).

Thistles24 - Shhhhhhh! Keep the secret Wink

alltoomuchrightnow · 02/07/2018 15:23

Saunton Sands, Polperro, Tresaith, Birling Gap

Trampire · 02/07/2018 15:27

Newborough beach, Anglesey (or any other beach in Anglesey).

Newborough has it all, pine forest, rolling sand dunes, rocks, little inlets and wide, vast beach. Lush.

Penmon, Anglesey for pebbles and rock pools.

GorgeousPie · 02/07/2018 15:30

Woolacombe in Devon, just lovely. Many happy memories of family holidays there.

Littlecaf · 02/07/2018 15:32

Bantham beach, south Devon. Fab view of the second best beach, Bigbury with Burch Island and the hotel.

Failing that, Brighton because it’s Brighton.

Mightymelon · 02/07/2018 15:34

Shaldon/teignmouth in south Devon
Anything along the north Devon and Cornwall coast from woolacomb along to bude Newquay and st ives
Kynance cove and marazion on the south Cornwall coast!

Blobby10 · 02/07/2018 15:36

Depends on what you want - if you want a calm or wavy sea sea, quiet or fun packed beaches , toilet facilities, shops, cafe's, close car park or can you walk a little way?

The British Isles has some of the most beautiful coastline in the world (in my opinion!) and in this weather, you can't beat it.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 02/07/2018 15:42

When I was little, we had a holiday in Ardnamurchan in the North of Scotland and I dimly recall some gorgeous beaches there, with pure white sand. Never been back, hope I wouldn't be disappointed if I did!

There are many lovely and contrasting beaches on the Island of Arran in southwest Scotland.

CelticPromise · 02/07/2018 15:49

Gower has a beach for every occasion. Barafundle and Freshwater in Pembs.

Lakie I swam off the east coast a couple of weeks ago, was surprisingly warm! Warmer than recent Gower swimming!

Nodancingshoes · 02/07/2018 15:53

Woolacombe, charmouth and Mawgan Porth are my favourites. Also like hayle, studland and just discovered little Sandsfoot bay - lovely place

DoraJar · 02/07/2018 15:57

Three cliffs bay

Slatternsdelight · 02/07/2018 15:57

The beaches on the Isles of Scilly beat anywhere I've been to on mainland UK

LakieLady · 02/07/2018 16:06

Albus, Birling Gap is not far from me. We don't favour it as a beach to spend a day at, because when the tide is in the beach is very small. You can't always rely on the steps being there, either, they've been washed away in storms a couple of times in the last few years.

I'm also a bit paranoid about rock falls, there have been some really bad ones along the Seven Sisters the last couple of years.

It's a beautiful stretch of coast though, when the dog was younger (and I wasn't so decrepit) we often used to walk from Seaford to Cuckmere Haven, have lunch there and then walk on to Birling Gap and get the bus back to Seaford.

Fifthtimelucky · 02/07/2018 16:09

I love the Scilly Isles, but the sea is jolly cold!

LakieLady · 02/07/2018 16:10

Celtic, you're much braver than me. Any time I've tried to swim from an east coast beach, it's been so cold it's hurt.

MrsMoastyToasty · 02/07/2018 16:12

Calgary beach on the Isle of Mull. It's just a beach and nothing else.
