So in light of the fact we are experiencing a heatwave & still have a few months of Summer to go please tell me about your favourite UK beach resort/destination.

Unfortunately my knowledge is pretty limited as my parents whisked us away to their respective countries for every holiday & we therefore only had the odd day/weekend trip to the beach.

Wells-Next-the-Sea, Sea Palling, Brancaster, Hunstanton Old Beach, Waxham, Horsey. Also like Southwold.

Just got back from a week in cornwall. I've been to Thailand and Mexico and I'd say the beaches were just as good if not better!

Bantham in South Devon gets my vote.

SingingGoldfinch · 02/07/2018 16:37

Dorset every time - but then I'm a Dorset girl so rather biased! Studland beach is stunning if you want sand dunes and miles of soft white sand (beware of the nudist section though!) and Swanage is wonderful for good old fashioned seaside fun, lovely soft sand and safe swimming in a pretty bay.

dingdongdigeridoo · 02/07/2018 16:41

Hayle in Cornwall doesn’t even feel like the UK. It has lovely powdery sand and clear seas. I love sliding down the steep sand dunes.

Croyde in Devon is probably second place because I used to love surfing there. My DS loved exploring the rock pools too.

ineedwine99 · 02/07/2018 16:41

Cornwall. Kynance cove is just beautiful as is Tintagel
Dorset - i stay in Swanage and do days out to the surround coast areas

ineedwine99 · 02/07/2018 16:42

Also Scilly Isles

Bollocksitshappenedagain · 02/07/2018 16:48

I went to Scotland many years ago and went to a beach somewhere near Ullapool. All I remember is driving completely off the beaten track. There were no cafes shops etc but it was so beautiful.

Semster · 02/07/2018 17:11

I left the UK 11 years ago but this thread is making me want to move back.

I agree with pretty much every single recommendation on here. The UK does beaches so so so well. You are so lucky.

(Mind you, where I live has some great beaches too.)

Semster · 02/07/2018 17:12

I love the Scilly Isles, but the sea is jolly cold!

Ha ha ha ha ha.

Sorry.

Disfordarkchocolate · 02/07/2018 17:15

Northumberland for me, especially Alnmouth. Also, Whitby and Saltburn. Saltburn is particularly lovely for children.

expatmigrant · 02/07/2018 17:17

Anywhere on the Gower peninsular but Three Cliffs our absolute favourite.

newmumwithquestions · 02/07/2018 17:23

I like north Norfolk but my favourite is in western Scotland - the white sands of Morar

Missbrick1 · 02/07/2018 18:58

Wowsers thanks for all the responses. Will read once the kids are in bed.

One with no one on it at all with no facilities which takes a long time to walk there which puts other people off! like Ross Beach and Duridge Bay in Northumberland. Holkham Beach in Norfolk second. NW Scotland can be good.

I actually prefer totally isolated beaches in hot countries where the sea is warm however. The main thing is no litter of any kind and no people.

PirateMermaid · 02/07/2018 19:06

@Xenia where are your favourite overseas beaches that meet that criteria? Any in Europe? No people, no litter and no facilities are the best beaches but increasingly rare!

Grumpbum · 02/07/2018 19:07

Saunton Sands
Perrenporth
Praa sands
Studland

UrsulaPandress · 02/07/2018 19:10

Cable Bay Anglesey. My friend saw Dolphins there the other day.

And another vote fir Morfa Nefyn.

Mamabear14 · 02/07/2018 19:13

Lee bay in Devon. Or holywell bay in Cornwall.

DeputyBrennan · 02/07/2018 19:23

Embleton Bay, without a doubt. Most of the Northumberland coast is beautiful.

Babybearsporij · 02/07/2018 19:36

Harlech beach is beautiful
Brean goes on for years and years

Stillnoidea · 02/07/2018 19:59

If you go too far west on Budleigh, you end up in the nudist beach!

ghostyslovesheets · 02/07/2018 20:02

Brean Sands - best place for crabbing and kites!

New Brighton - because it's home!

Aliceinwanderland · 02/07/2018 20:04

Another vote for Calgary beach on Mull. On A sunny day it's like the Caribbean.

Also Embo beach near Dornoch in north east Scotland. Miles of sand, rock pools and few people.

Pollypudding · 02/07/2018 20:07

The West Beach on Berneray and pretty much any beach in the Outer Hebrides
