So in light of the fact we are experiencing a heatwave & still have a few months of Summer to go please tell me about your favourite UK beach resort/destination.

Unfortunately my knowledge is pretty limited as my parents whisked us away to their respective countries for every holiday & we therefore only had the odd day/weekend trip to the beach.

St Ives is my very favourite place in the world. It’s busy in the summer, though. The beaches are amazing.

Inertia · 03/07/2018 13:13

Our favourite beaches:

In Cornwall:
Sennen Cove
Porthcurno
Kynance Cove
Watergate Bay
Porthmeor beach in St Ives
Crantock

In Devon:
Bigbury-on Sea

In Wales:
Newborough, Anglesey
Rhosneigr, Anglesey
Whitesands Bay, St Davids

Another vote for Cornwall!

Porthcothan
Constantine Bay
Gwithian Towans

thewalrus · 03/07/2018 13:21

Sally's pictures are of Porthcurno - it's lovely!
Lots of my favourites have been mentioned already - agree with those who have said the Scillies beaches are in a league of their own though. The sandbar between Gugh and St Agnes on a sunny day is possibly the nicest place to swim I can think of (despite the sea temperature, which is definitely colder than the mainland!).

CheeseAndBeans · 03/07/2018 13:24

Our favourite beaches from recent holidays/day trips:
Woolacoombe in Devon
Sandbanks in Dorset
Littlehampton or West Wittering on South Coast

brieislife · 03/07/2018 13:39

Whitby/Sandsend is my absolute favourite, but a shout out to Kennack Sands on the Lizard down in Cornwall as well.

Barbara1956 · 03/07/2018 13:53

Crosby ...with the Anthony Gormley statues and lovely sandy beach, Pembrokeshire beaches are wonderful , but if you can get there , Rushy Bay on Bryher and Appletree Bay on Tresco are spectacular and very safe for children.

Eminybob · 03/07/2018 14:07

Technically UK but admittedly not quite so easy to pop to for a day trip - Jersey.

Biased as I grew up there, but the beaches are beautiful. My favourites are Greve de Lecq, St Brelades, and Portelet.

mirime · 03/07/2018 14:38

Dunraven in South Wales. Walled garden to have a picnic in then down to the beach for a fossil hunt.

Storminateapot · 03/07/2018 14:44

Between Seahouses & Bamburgh or anywhere on the Nortn Norfolk coast.

ProfessorMoody · 03/07/2018 14:46

Sourherndown/Dunraven Bay.

cricketmum84 · 03/07/2018 14:53

Suppose it depends what you want to get out of a beach, roughly where you are and how much travelling is reasonable for you?
My favourites are:
Scarborough (busy, donkeys, plenty of bars and amusements and food and ice cream)
Mablethorpe (as above but with miles and miles of gorgeous golden sand and no hills!!)
Seahouses (bit quieter but beautiful and scenic, in fact most of northumblands beaches!!)
Filey (quiet but an award winning beach. Sadly my DH hates Filey as he says there isn't enough going on for him)

toolonglurking · 03/07/2018 15:07

Westport Beach on the Kintyre Penninsula

Oxwich Bay, gower

Pembrokeshire is on my list as a friend recently went & it looked beautiful.

I’ve been to Weymouth about 15 years ago & we did have frequent day trips to Brighton & Broadstairs/Margate as I grew up in London.

In May I went to Salcombe & Kingsbridge & fell in love with it so have visited a few of the ones mentioned on here.

Definitely need to do Cornwall as only visited Mawgen Porth.

Not heard of the Gower ☺️ but it looks beautiful.

Added Northumberland to the list.

Visited a few places on the Jurassic coast with school, need to go back.

Thistles24 Wow, that looks stunning!

The Isles of Scilly, particularly Tresco. You do have to take a plane or boat to get there, though.

Depends on what you want - if you want a calm or wavy sea sea, quiet or fun packed beaches , toilet facilities, shops, cafe's, close car park or can you walk a little way? At this stage of my life ideally somewhere suitable for little ones.

The British Isles has some of the most beautiful coastline in the world (in my opinion!) and in this weather, you can't beat it. I agree!

@SallyCinnamon3009 What beaches did you visit? It does look
like another country!

I really want to live by the sea!

Depends what you think is a nice beach. My dream beaches are the ones with character, coves, rock pools, stunning cliffs etc.
On not fond of huge massive expanses of beach... I also like facilities of some sort

RayneDance · 03/07/2018 17:51

I should have followed the that up with not being keen on hollandaise beach but adoring beaches and coves round Cornwall.

Missbrick1 · 03/07/2018 17:53

Scilly looks amazing!

Mellon Udrigle beach in The Scottish Highlands- beautiful white sand beach, turquoise water and beautiful views out towards the summer isles. Stunning and a great spot to camp too ( its wild and no facilities)

Mollie85 · 03/07/2018 18:01
