someone telling my dog to f*ck off

Just been for a walk along the canal. The dog was a bit further ahead of me off the lead and it went off to the side. By the time i reached this point the dog had obviously disturbed someone who was sunbathing. They proceeded to tell the dog fuck off. I called the dog back and apologied and carried on walking. Not a word of acknowledgment from this stroppy sunbather. AIBU to be annoyed at someone telling my dog to fuck off?

YABU....if you can’t see your dog, you have no idea how annoying he/she can be.

araiwa · 23/06/2018 14:19

Oh Grow up

And put your dog on a lead when out

ConsistentInsomniac · 23/06/2018 14:19

Perhaps you should keep the dog on the lead if you can't keep it within sight.

Chattymummyhere · 23/06/2018 14:19

Keep your dog on its lead where you can control it and people wouldn’t need to take it to fuck off.

Mayhemmumma · 23/06/2018 14:19

No! YBU not to keep your dog under control imo. Sunbather did not invite your dog over presumably.

bastardkitty · 23/06/2018 14:19
Hmm
TakemedowntoPotatoCity · 23/06/2018 14:20

They probably didn't know you were within earshot.
Don't be too precious about it. They might not love dogs like you do...
I'm trying to be diplomatic

SuperMoonIsKeepingMeUpToo · 23/06/2018 14:20

Yes. And if your dog annoyed a sunbather, it was actually your fault so you're lucky they didn't tell you to fuck off.

TwoGinScentedTears · 23/06/2018 14:20

We all love our own dogs, but nobody else is obliged to. Especially annoying off lead dogs.

SoddingUnicorns · 23/06/2018 14:20

I’d have told your dog to fuck off too. You need to have them under control in a public place. So you need to be able to see/recall them at all times.

Sunbather had every right to be “stroppy” you, not so much.

UrsulaPandress · 23/06/2018 14:21

Was your dog offended?

gamerwidow · 23/06/2018 14:21

I don’t think your dog will be that offended. Keep them under control next time.

firehousedog · 23/06/2018 14:22

Ok so the solution is to keep the dog on lead at all time. My bad obviously. I appreciate the canal is not mine alone but if i could see sunbathers stretched along the canalside then yes i would have put the dog on the lead. This sole sunbather was tucked behind a tree out of view.

Dog won’t understand f**k off. You should keep him under better control though. He shouldn’t be bothering other people.

GreyhoundzRool · 23/06/2018 14:23

I’m a dog owner OP and it’s people like you who give the rest of us a bad name. If you can’t see the dog it’s not under control - whether that’s disturbing people, other dogs who may be nervous or having a poo which you would miss and not pick up!

GlassSuppers · 23/06/2018 14:23

YABU.

If you can't see your dog you're not in control of it.
Not everyone is a dog person. I am and I'd still have been annoyed.

gamerwidow · 23/06/2018 14:24

Ok so the solution is to keep the dog on lead at all time.
Yes because clearly there’s no middle ground like have the dog off the lead but no so far ahead that you can’t see what they’re doing. Don’t be disingenuous.

toolonglurking · 23/06/2018 14:25

I am a dog owner and lover, but I'd probably have told your dog to fuck off if I was snoozing in the sunshine and it ran up to me and slobbered on me or even came in for a sniff.
YABU, if you can't see your dog call it back so you can see it and stop being an idiot.

notsohippychick · 23/06/2018 14:25

This is what I detest about dogs not on leads. The dog can never be in the owners view. Seen this at my local park, the dog runs off out of view has a crap everywhere and the owner is none the wiser.

Cue my toddler stepping in it.

It’s nit the sunbathers fault, if your dog isn’t in a lead, keep it in sight!

SoddingUnicorns · 23/06/2018 14:26

Was your dog offended?

Haha that made me think of this meme

someone telling my dog to f*ck off
MyOtherUsernameisaPun · 23/06/2018 14:26

YABU. For one thing your dog can't understand so it's not like it can be offended. And for another, you should have your dog on a lead if she won't walk quietly beside you. If she's getting far away enough from you to bother other people, she shouldn't be off the lead on the canal.

firehousedog · 23/06/2018 14:27

Ok, quite a resounding thumbs down from the mn forum. I will i guess have to keep the dog on the lead from now on in sunny weather.

ps the dog was not offended and walked off with its tail wagging Grin

The dog won't understand the word fuck. Ours has been called a gobshite a couple of times in the past year, still comes for an ear tickle.

Not in the woods? Or big open empty field? Keep Rover/Roveretta on the lead.

TeeBee · 23/06/2018 14:28

If be fine with someone telling my dog to fuck off if he'd disturbed them. It's an animal, his feelings won't be hurt. Keep him on the lead if you are sensitive about such things.

PrivateDoor · 23/06/2018 14:31

Just be glad they didn't give you a mouthful! You really cannot blame them for being annoyed.
