someone telling my dog to f*ck off

Just been for a walk along the canal. The dog was a bit further ahead of me off the lead and it went off to the side. By the time i reached this point the dog had obviously disturbed someone who was sunbathing. They proceeded to tell the dog fuck off. I called the dog back and apologied and carried on walking. Not a word of acknowledgment from this stroppy sunbather. AIBU to be annoyed at someone telling my dog to fuck off?

In Scotland fuck off can also be a term of endearment

SoddingUnicorns · 23/06/2018 14:34

@smashhits90s aye but being called pal means they’re about to batter you Grin

emmyrose2000 · 23/06/2018 14:34

YABU

ICantCopeAnymore · 23/06/2018 14:36

I'm a dog owner and lover but don't want other people's dogs near me. I'm disabled and most contact hurts. I'd have told you to fuck off though, not your dog.

Juells · 23/06/2018 14:37

Perhaps the dog pissed on the sunbather? My dog will piss on anything that looks vaguely different to the surroundings, and a body would suit him just fine.

SumerisIcumenin · 23/06/2018 14:38

Another all or nothing dog owner.
Train it to walk to heel, to stay within sight and to recall on first command. Or you could just not bother and keep it on a lead at all times. Or buy you and your fucking dog matching earplugs.

viques · 23/06/2018 14:40

i guess I will have to keep the dog on the lead in sunny weather

Any weather actually until you can get your dog to walk quietly by your side.

TheRebel · 23/06/2018 14:42

I was attacked by a dog when I was about 8, since then I’ve been very nervous around dogs. If a lone dog came up to me I would tell it to fuck off not out of nastiness but out of fear and panic.

You need to understand that not everyone likes dogs, and that’s ok.

mummabearfoyrbabybears · 23/06/2018 14:42

I have three dogs. Nothing wrong with keeping them on a lead. I had a lose dog jump on my babies stomach on the beach. A dogs on lead beach. I said more the fuck off I can tell you.

Aeroflotgirl · 23/06/2018 14:44

Yabvu you were not near your dog, and did not keep it under control, not everyone loves dogs, especially when they are sunbathing.

Loonoon · 23/06/2018 14:44

I hope your dogs feelings weren’t hurt.

Gabilou · 23/06/2018 14:44

Yeah you’re being massively unreasonable. I hate it when people let their dogs trample over me and my family then get precious over it. The worst ‘oh he’s friendly’ my response is usually ‘well I’m not and neither are my children - take it away from us or get reported’

Greenyogagirl · 23/06/2018 14:44

Yabu
People are scared of dogs, allergic or just don’t like them and should be able to enjoy being out without worrying about dogs bothering them.
I have a pup who is always off the lead, if he gets a bit far ahead I call him to me so I know what he’s doing

smashhits90s · 23/06/2018 14:44

@SoddingUnicorns very true Grin

Jeezoh · 23/06/2018 14:44

If your dog can’t be trusted not to disturb people, perhaps you should learn to control it.

Branleuse · 23/06/2018 14:44

I hope you apologised to the sunbather for your dog slobbering/jumping all over them.

Aeroflotgirl · 23/06/2018 14:45

Only let them off the lead in say an enclosed field, or where there are not likely to be too many people. You need to work on the recall. Until then, keep him on a lead in busy places.

MasonJar · 23/06/2018 14:47

YABU. My dog was told to fuck off when he stuck his cold wet nose onto my bare stomach, I was sunbathing and having a lovely snooze and it gave me a fright.
Dog wasn't upset about being sworn at, he wandered off wagging his tail.

pigsDOfly · 23/06/2018 14:47

What do you expect someone to do in those circumstances? Ask the dog politely to move away. Most people would be pretty irritated by some random dog coming up to them and sniffing them or whatever.

When walking with my dog I make sure she doesn't get the opportunity to annoy other people, perhaps you should too.

SoddingUnicorns · 23/06/2018 14:48

@smashhits90sGrin

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 23/06/2018 14:48

Don’t think dogs sustain any lasting emotional damage.

Mine are fine are they are being told to fuck off quite often.

Grin
Ivorbig1 · 23/06/2018 14:49

Yabu and should keep your dog on a lead in the circumstances you have described. A dog can’t be offended and if you as it’s owner were offended, well, you are still bu.

Pebblespony · 23/06/2018 14:49

I've told other people's digs to fuck off while walking my own. In fairness they are dogs that come out to me from houses that have followed me home.

Pebblespony · 23/06/2018 14:49

Dogs! Grin

mumofmany81 · 23/06/2018 14:49

This is the kind of entitled dog owner that drives me crazy. Not only did you allow your dog to run off where you couldn't see it and annoy someone but you then think you've got the right to be upset because your dog was told to fuck off. I was attacked by a dog as a child and am pretty scared of dogs even now. I've had times where I've got a dog jumping up at me and I'm cowering away from it while the owner is beaming away at how cute their lovely dog is showing this level of affection to a stranger.

These are the exact same type of people who make delusional parents and get upset when their kids are told off for being little sods because they think their angel is perfect
