someone telling my dog to f*ck off

Just been for a walk along the canal. The dog was a bit further ahead of me off the lead and it went off to the side. By the time i reached this point the dog had obviously disturbed someone who was sunbathing. They proceeded to tell the dog fuck off. I called the dog back and apologied and carried on walking. Not a word of acknowledgment from this stroppy sunbather. AIBU to be annoyed at someone telling my dog to fuck off?

@undercoverbanana that’s awful. My pup is great off lead but as soon as I see a runner or cyclist I clip his lead on just in case he thinks it’s a game and wants to chase them, I think it’s just polite to make sure nobody is bothered by your dog

mrcharlie · 23/06/2018 15:19

yes, I'd have said the same.

Yesterday I walked round to collect my son from school. Wasn't running, just walking. Chap infront with his nose buried in his phone, with dog by his side, totally oblivious to me coming up behind, the dog just lunged straight for me. I had anticipated as such and was ready to step into the road. The lead was aroubd the owners wrist which caused him to drop his phone....can you believe he screamed "bastard" the dog was still trying to bite me. I just stood my ground, absolutely furious and asked who the hell he was calling a bastard. He yanked the dog hard turned and walked the other way. Seriously I was absolutely enraged.

This now the 2nd time this has happened, the first being some dozy cow who insists on walking her very nervous GSD at the same time as parents are taking and collecting their kids, she doesn't have kids. That dog has actually bitten another parent!!

We walk in virtually empty farmers' fields, and one day years ago it wasn't sunbathers my dog found next to a hedge. He wasn't even out of sight of me or that far away either. We had happened upon a shagging young couple who had obviously naively believed they would be alone on a public footpath in the fields. My labrador had begun licking them before I could get his lead on and frogmarch him away.

Ugh

Aridane · 23/06/2018 15:27

(the worst type of threesome -or literal dogging Grin )

lhastingsmua · 23/06/2018 15:29

It’s a bit gross if you’re being lying down catching a bit of sun and a random dog is slobbering on, licking or sniffing your body tbh

lhastingsmua · 23/06/2018 15:30

I like dogs but in the above situation I would probably tell yours to do one too

Undercoverbanana · 23/06/2018 15:31

Greenyogagirl - thank you for being so responsible. I love animals. All animals. But I am terrified of dogs. I don’t want any harm to come to them and I can’t abide stories of cruelty to them. I just don’t want them anywhere near my life.

IslaBoots · 23/06/2018 15:34

There's no need to keep your dog on a lead for every walk OP. Teach it some manners... It is relatively easy to train a dog to not approach other people or dogs. You have to be more exciting than them.... Good Luck!

KneesupGaston · 23/06/2018 15:36

Like others I love dogs but I'd have told yours to fuck off too.

Wellfuckmeinbothears · 23/06/2018 15:36

I’m a dog owner and I’d have told you to fuck off and learn to control your dog.

Rach5ll · 23/06/2018 15:38

Teach your dog to say fuck off back

NoNotheresnolyrics · 23/06/2018 15:39

Control your animal

OF COURSE YOU'RE BEING BLOODY UNREASONABLE - WHY DO YOU EVEN HAVE TO ASK!

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 23/06/2018 18:56

Really?

The things that people start threads about these days is ridiculous Confused

Amanduh · 23/06/2018 18:58

Yes yabu. Last week I was ‘tucked away’ under a tree and a dog trotted un, nibbled my samdwich and tried to eat my twirl.
I said no, down, no, then shoo but it didn’t deter him! About 6/7 min later owner appeared. Tbf he could’ve eaten a choc bar by then!

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 23/06/2018 18:59

I do hope you feel better now got this off your chest, NKnumbers.

OneStepSideways · 23/06/2018 18:59

Your dog should have been on a lead or within a couple of metres of you. It's really antisocial to let him bound ahead in a public place! I would have shouted at him (and you) if he'd jumped on me.

Lots of people are scared of dogs. Others just don't want a strange animal rushing at them/their children or their picnic.

Topseyt · 23/06/2018 19:05

Aridane, Grin at the dogging.

It was just a moment that nobody could have predicted. He was pottering around near me as we walked along. Then we came over the brow of a small hill and there they were, in front of us.

They were shocked at being found, and I had to make a grab for my dog.

WhatToDoAboutWailmerGoneRogue · 23/06/2018 19:05

Really? You’re not okay with “blue language”, OP, but other people should have to put up with your animal bothering them?

Your dog should stay on a lead if you cannot be bothered to ensure it is not mithering anyone else. You should never let a dog run off out of sight; that is not responsible pet ownership at all.

firehousedog · 23/06/2018 19:07

Jeez there are some irrate people on mn today. So i presume everyone on here having a pop thereby goes for the throat of any dog walker they see in public with their dog more than 2 metres away from them at all times? I've explained the walk is usually quiet, i've certainly never seen anyone sunbathing there before. If it were a usual sunbathing spot then i'd put the dog on the lead. I didn't see the sunbather. Again if i did i would have put the dog on the lead. The dog was out of sight for all of ten seconds max. I called the dog and it returned immediately and i apologised. I only asked if it was unreasonable for something to be potty mouth at a dog....As your were mn Hmm

Gottagetmoving · 23/06/2018 19:10

You obviously are annoyed so why ask if you should be?
Your dog won't give a fuck about being told to fuck off so I suppose neither should you. I'm not sure you should be annoyed even if they told you to fuck off.
No one died.

IslaBoots · 23/06/2018 19:11

The things that people start threads about these days is ridiculous

Agreed! Even more so when they then make things up as to the consequences and naive people believe them... 😂😂

firehousedog · 23/06/2018 19:13

I was initially curious if people thought it was accepted to go all sweary over a dog. I am more annoyed at people saying i'm a bad advert for dog walkers, etc, than anything.

OP posts:
funinthesun18 · 23/06/2018 19:13

Sorry op I would have said the same I think. I’m not really a dog lover and if I was suddenly interrupted by one I think “fuck off” would just come out without thinking.

I think it upset you more than the dog. Your dog won’t care in the slightest about being told to fuck off.

Undercoverbanana · 23/06/2018 19:21

“Blue language” - are you my great-Nan? 😂
