To think only buying teenagers a children’s meal is crap?

Ds (15) out with his dad, step mum and her two young teens for lunch today. Again, as soon as he can home his nose was in the fridge as he was only allowed a child’s portion.

He’s 5 foot ten.

They aren’t allowed the adult menu until they are 16.

Bloody bonkers.

Yep that's crazy. DS11 would be pretty pissed off with only being allowed a kids meal.

Gileswithachainsaw · 16/06/2018 18:13

How ridiculous. It's good. There should he no such thing as a "kids menu" anyway. Who goes out and wants stuff they have in the freezer at home

Let the poor sod order a meal ffs

Nanasueathome · 16/06/2018 18:13

We went out for lunch the other da6 and my 8 year old grandson ordered from the main menu.
And he had dessert too, although he struggled with that towards the end
4 and 6 year olds have the children’s meals and eat the lot

Gileswithachainsaw · 16/06/2018 18:13

It's food

MapMyMum · 16/06/2018 18:14

That is bonkers if he would actually manage a full adult portion, our young teen has tried adult portions a few times but isnt able for them yet, but once he needs that amount of food he will get it!

BinG0wings123 · 16/06/2018 18:14

That’s what pisses ds off as well, the fact that it’s usually only crap when he wants the good stuff!

It’s not a money issue, they are just a bit odd. But all three boys are the size of men.

Some restaurants don't like children over 12 having a children's meal ( I don't see why it should matter if you are paying for it) Is your exH a tight wad?

itsBritneyBeach · 16/06/2018 18:15

That is ridiculous. At 15 I'd have been bloody starving if all I got was a kids meal!

isthistoonosy · 16/06/2018 18:16

giles I would assume the problem is it is nowhere near enough food.
My 4 yr old often finishes his kids meal and comes looking for extra from ours / little sisters plate.
Could he order two meals, take his own bread to make a point

SnuggyBuggy · 16/06/2018 18:17

I thought growing teenage boys tended to eat more than adults.

mrsm43s · 16/06/2018 18:17

Ours started rejecting kids menus at around 10, both because of the portion size, and also they'd grown out of considering chicken nuggets/ burgers/sausages as a meal they'd want to choose when eating out.

Peterrabbitscarrots · 16/06/2018 18:18

My DS11 has been eating from the adult menu for a year - he’s taller than me and would be hungry if he just had a kids meal

LOL7 · 16/06/2018 18:19

That's ridiculous! Has your ds told his dad a child meal isn't enough? 15 year old boys can eat a lot more than I can, and I would never order off the crap kids menu!

Gileswithachainsaw · 16/06/2018 18:20

Sorry I was correcting the typo I realise it probabky looks like I was disagreeing .

So called kids menus should really just he smaller portions of the proper food

My kids just share a meal or leave stuff. How bloody embarrassing and selfish to he stuck woth fish fingers while everyone tucks into a meal

CoughLaughFart · 16/06/2018 18:24

I’m amazed the restaurant even allowed this. I remember going to the cavery with my parents when I was younger and the children’s portion was for diners 12 and under only. (Given that I was 5 ft 5 at that age and getting into 15 films, I think my parents would have been embarrassed trying to order off the children’s menu for me!)

Tinkobell · 16/06/2018 18:28

Teens need more calories than an adult, so yes, it's both tight and fanciful to think a child meals enough ffs!

letsallhaveanap · 16/06/2018 18:30

yeah thats really odd!! really really odd!
The childs portions in most places would not adequately feed any teen! even the tiniest teen!

MumofBoysx2 · 16/06/2018 18:30

Ridiculous. My ten year old now has adult meals and he's not overweight. And it's insulting and embarrassing to tell a teenager they have to pick from the child's menu!

leccybill · 16/06/2018 18:31

My 8yo DD finds kids meals to be not enough for her these days! She sometimes orders an adult meal, especially when it's a roast dinner.

Notevilstepmother · 16/06/2018 18:32

And this is why he is an Ex! What a tight man.

Serin · 16/06/2018 18:33

WTH? That is ridiculous.
I thought children's meals were for primary school aged children?
Bet he was humiliated.

Notevilstepmother · 16/06/2018 18:33

Can you shame him by sending DS with £20 and telling him to order his own food? Or would that cause rucktions?

Mummyoflittledragon · 16/06/2018 18:34

Dd is 9 and the height of the average 11 yo. She often prefers to eat an adult meal now, not always. Doesn’t necessarily finish it. But a teen just shy of 6 ft is ridiculous. I bet once your ds is “allowed” an adult meal, her children will too.

MollysMummy2010 · 16/06/2018 18:34

My 8 year old DD eats off the main menu! Stopped wanting the kids menu about a year ago due to type of food and portion size.

Mummyoflittledragon · 16/06/2018 18:35

Notevilstepmother
Evil genius idea. 😁
