To think only buying teenagers a children’s meal is crap?

Ds (15) out with his dad, step mum and her two young teens for lunch today. Again, as soon as he can home his nose was in the fridge as he was only allowed a child’s portion.

He’s 5 foot ten.

They aren’t allowed the adult menu until they are 16.

Bloody bonkers.

What?!?! Kids menu is usually up until age 12. Teen boys need a lot of calories as they’re growing - way over 2000 a day.

I think you should just let this go. You and your Ex just parent differently in this regard. It's hardly abuse.

At 15 your boy is still growing and needs a decent meal. I would be anxious about him spending any extended time with his father as he might end up malnourished.

The kids’ menu up to 12 isn’t usually enforced. My gran (95) often orders from the kids’ menu and we’ve never had a restaurant refuse.

Teenage boys need large amounts of food. Making them have the kids’ menu food is rubbish.

There is a strict no helping yourself to food policy in their house

What a miserable way to live Sad

Why bother even going out for a meal if you aren’t going to let members of the family eat a sufficient number of calories to meet their needs ?

It is ridiculous OP and I would let his DF know. If you’re feeling particularly passive aggressive you could give DS the extra money so that he can top up on his own expense to a proper adult meal. Or as that might be the nuclear option, give him protein bars to take with him and eat in the car afterwards.
