I took on the mantle to start another thread. If that is not allowed, Mods delete the thread, I am not sure of the protocol. But it certainly is an interesting discussion!

If allowed to stay as my OP, let's go!

Of course they won't give us money back! The gym scenario mentioned earlier explains why. You were a member. You paid. You left the gym because you didn't like it and have to pay for the rest of the time you signed up for. And then you fancy a swim and ask if you can't just use the pool occasionally....and call them unfair when they say um NO.

keyboardkate · 15/06/2018 19:17

Being in the Customs Union restricts UK making other free trade deals outside the CU in the national interest though.

I thought that a big premise of Brexit was to be able to arrange trade deals with any country. Not going to happen without hard Brx.

They have to compensate us for the lack of access if they refuse us access to a service we've paid for.
I think I know a tad but more on this one.

lostinsunshine · 15/06/2018 19:24

@siwel123 when you negotiate, you work out what the other side really wants or expects to get and you see what they are prepared to concede to get it. And what your own concession will cost you. Far from a certainty what we'll get and what we won't get.

Luisa27 · 15/06/2018 19:24

Siwel....nooooooo 😥you’re a Brexiter???

keyboardkate · 15/06/2018 19:25

Well do tell us more siwel, we like to be educated by our betters!

OP posts:
Luisa27 · 15/06/2018 19:25

Tell me this isn’t true?

siwel123 · 15/06/2018 19:26

I understand how negotiations work Grin.
But they will still have to compensate us if they kick us out of Galileo system.

keyboardkate · 15/06/2018 19:27

Ah yes, but what about a Customs Union and UK's ability to arrange free trade outside that Union?

OP posts:
siwel123 · 15/06/2018 19:28

@Luisa27. Oh dear God no Grin. I voted remain don't panic.

If you want to know why I think I understand more on this little bit of brexit well....
I'm working on it tada Grin
Not that I'm an expert on anything else brexit but I'm project managing the conversion of some laws from EU to UK and advising on Galileo project.

lostinsunshine · 15/06/2018 19:28

But we are not just negotiating over Galileo. Maybe they are prepared to play hardball in that (and as you think, lose money and/or functionality) to get something else. These things do not operate in isolation.

lostinsunshine · 15/06/2018 19:30

@siwel123 - I won't tell you what I do but I know for certain that nothing is off the table or on it.

siwel123 · 15/06/2018 19:31

I understand that, @lostinsunshine.

siwel123 · 15/06/2018 19:31

@lostinsunshine. Ooh secret squirrel Grin

Luisa27 · 15/06/2018 19:35

Phew siwel...had to have a little lie down then

Lost, Siwel can’t you bods ‘in the know’ help stop this madness.
Per favore 🙏

siwel123 · 15/06/2018 19:37

Oh I wish. But I think we would get lynched, so I have to go along and try get the best deal Grin

Buteo · 15/06/2018 19:38

Sssshh - you’ll have the likes of JRM accusing the civil service of trying to thwart Brexit 🤫

siwel123 · 15/06/2018 19:39
Grin
jasjas1973 · 15/06/2018 19:39

Again it's highly unlikely they will refuse us access to it. As then we would not be able to share any security info with them and them with us if we were seen as a danger to security

Sharing security info on say returning ISIS fighters or a terrorist plot etc is not the same as having access to the software code of Galileo, to reject the former would be spiting our nose etc, we cannot seriously expect to remain a part of Galileo, an EU project, its not a question of security risk, i doubt the EU will be sharing this stuff with Australia/Japan or the USA.
Compensation sure, that can be negotiated.

Luisa27 · 15/06/2018 19:40

JRM - who parades his poor children on instagram every minute of the day

siwel123 · 15/06/2018 19:40

We would have to be compensated if they did kick us out as we would lose a large part of our security capability.

jasjas1973 · 15/06/2018 19:48

Presumably we d have to continue with the USA and GPS ? you know that special relationship.......
