We’re having bangers mash beans and onion gravy for tea.
She insists peas are superior to beans and gravy should never be combined with beans as you can’t have two sloppy things on the plate. She is so very very wrong.

Beans and gravy are a definite no no with anything at all. And sausages should never be served with peas or with gravy. I have spoken and therefore it is so. Sausages should be served with mash and either nicely caramelized fried onions or cabbage. Or they should be included as one of the items in a richly flavoured cassoulet, which should definitely contain lots of beans, but not the tinned baked kind.

Stbeh used to eat beans and gravy together all the time, I thought it was 😷😷 . Then I tried it... omg, delish! Always do it myself, now.

What kind of monster are you OP? Beans and gravy do not belong together but it you are going to create such an unholy combination then at least put some gravy or bean juice on your mash!

No that is awful! Beans on their own or peas and gravy.

I've only read p1 as I'm in a hurry but when I read 'beans' I didn't assume baked beans but some sort of green beans.
Happy to stand corrected as baked beans with gravy would indeed be an abomination.
Sausage, mash, gravy & green veg though is fine.

I assumed you meant green beans and thought that sounded nice enough. But then you said 'two sorts of sloppy food'.

Baked beans and gravy? Wrong, wrong, wrong. Garden peas with mash. Mushy peas with whole potatoes and gravy over the sausages and potatoes.

Heartshapedbox. I always say ‘don’t knock it until you’ve tried it’ and your post made me smack myself with a soggy t-towel 😁 so when I next fall off the low carb wagon I’ll give it a go and if it is indeed food of the Gods I’ll be back to apologise to the OP.

For me, it's not just the gravy+beans combo that is wrong, but also the mash+beans. Chips are a better potato alternative.

Even mash+gravy can be problematic, so I seperate the gravy from the mash using a sausage barricade

Beans on their own are bad enough, adding gravy on top would just send me over the edge.....

Gravy doesn't really belong on any tea

Gravy should only be served when you have mash with a pie or sausages or on a roast dinner. That's it. It should not be on chips or steamed veg and definitely not on beans.

No beans please! If we're having sausage and mash I tend to use Rachel Khoo's sauce diable - which is delicious.. a spicy espagnole I think? but stand to be corrected!
