I know FIFA and Russia and whoever is involved is horrible in some way... But it's the actual World Cup. Mexico v South Korea suddenly becomes hugely important to my life! England have a likeable squad and manager. Ronaldo, Messi, Neymar. Spain sacking their manager yesterday.

It's so exciting isn't it!

They were missing some bite today I thought.

I guess a lot of people won’t be interested this year as it’s being held in Russia. Politics and sport - always an uneasy mix.

LadyLance · 15/06/2018 17:14

Russia were pretty impressive yesterday, obviously against poor opposition. The only reason Uruguay won (imo) was that Egypt didn't really have a goal-scoring threat. The Uruguayan team just didn't seem to have any attacking instinct and Suarez was poor- it'll be interesting to see them against Russia.

But I've got Uruguay in a sweepstake, so they're bound to under perform.

Looking forward to Spain vs Portugal tonight.

Also voting for France as most collectively attractive team at the moment.

WhiteHartLane · 15/06/2018 18:22

Missed the earlier games today but settling in for the big one now. Hoping for a Spain win.

Igneococcus · 15/06/2018 19:06

Well, that's an exciting start to the game.

TornFromTheInside · 15/06/2018 19:08

I'm a Man City season ticket holder, and love football, but I just can't get enthused about this World Cup.
However, I do hope Russia manages to improve its image.

Ronaldo is amazing. Fact.

That was an incredible game and I hate football ( usually)
I hope Spain qualify though.

user1471517900 · 15/06/2018 22:08

They will both qualify easily. Also couldn't believe the second goal. De Gea never makes those mistakes!

What a game.
Although Ronaldo wasn’t that amazing for the first 70 minutes... that game has finally got the excitement going though. Isco is a joy to watch

SparklingXmas · 15/06/2018 22:18

What a match! Loved, loved Ronaldo's last goal what a talent. I was speechless and just clapped! it's started the spark of excitement! 😃

derxa · 15/06/2018 22:20

Ronaldo is amazing. Fact. I agree

Itchytights · 15/06/2018 22:22

Loving it GrinGrin

user1471517900 · 15/06/2018 22:26

And now presumably Messi will have to score 3 tomorrow too!

I preferred Nacho's goal, that seem to come out of nowhere.

I don't like Costa but he had 2 good goals, I don't like Ronaldo but that was a great free kick.

Really enjoyed watching that match.

BitOutOfPractice · 15/06/2018 22:59

I'm not a massive Ronaldinho fan but oh my goodness you cannot deny that he is an amazing footballer. Really all six goals tonight had their merits but Costa's individual effort really was something else.

BitOutOfPractice · 15/06/2018 23:00

Why the he'll did my phone change Ronaldo's name?!?!

LapsedHumanist · 16/06/2018 04:27

Well, that’s more like it. I enjoyed that.

Ronaldo is something else. His mental strength is unbelievable.

He does enjoy a hat trick 🎩 🎩 🎩

thugmansion · 16/06/2018 04:41

Diego Costa you filthy bastard I miss you Grin

DoctorTwo · 16/06/2018 07:25

When De Gea made that mistake the first words out of my mouth were "Gary Sprake!" I think every keeper has made similar errors but none were so roundly pilloried as the late Mr S.

user1471517900 · 16/06/2018 08:08

The Liverpool keeper might disagree!

Four games today! I fear France might batter Australia here.

I miss watching Costa. Proper pantomime villain. Brilliant game.

The80sweregreat · 16/06/2018 09:47

Did one of them say that Ronaldo was done for tax evasion this week in the millions ?

ToffeeUp · 16/06/2018 09:51

Footballer Cristiano Ronaldo has reportedly agreed to accept a €18.8m (£16.4m) fine and a suspended jail term to settle tax evasion charges.

The80sweregreat · 16/06/2018 09:54

Blimey, imaging having that amount of cash to start with !

you would think he would hire expensive accountants to stop this kind of slip up in the first place.

they will still worship him in Maderia though.
