I know FIFA and Russia and whoever is involved is horrible in some way... But it's the actual World Cup. Mexico v South Korea suddenly becomes hugely important to my life! England have a likeable squad and manager. Ronaldo, Messi, Neymar. Spain sacking their manager yesterday.

It's so exciting isn't it!

I’m going to try and embrace it this year instead of getting irritated by it being on the tv and replacing my normal programmes.

It may get me some cool points with DS too.

So is the first game tonight? Anything I could say about it to make me sound like I know what I’m talking about?

It's at 4pm this afternoon

Anything I could say about it to make me sound like I know what I’m talking about

You could say, "Hey, DS, this is the first ever opening game where both teams involved have the lowest FIFA ranking in the tournament

I reckon we’ll go out to Poland in the second round. But I’m hoping for at least the quarters. Does wondered for the economy if they pull their fingers out and do well.

Would be nice for Southgate if they did well, as he seems like a nice bloke and obviously has baggage it would be nice for him to put to rest.

Mumble something about offside and cast aspersions about the morality of the refers mother.

Always works for me.

I watched a couple of videos on Youtube recently. When he missed his penalty in the Semis, just before he took it, the commentator said "the whole of England is with you"

Be a good achievement to get to the quarters I think. I just want them to play good football and go for it.

VAR (Video Assistant Referee) is always a good one, this is the first World Cup with VAR.

I usually like Germany and Italy. Any home teams there?

YANBU except in saying England has a likeable squad. Raheem Sterling (likes a dive), Jamie Vardy (likes a racial slur), Dele Alli (bad temper) and Harry Kane who will claim to have scored all the goals whether he touched them or not. Urgh.

Derxa, I feel exactly as you do. Put it down to excess jingoism and misplaced confidence and erm...1966!

I generally hate football but love the World Cup much to my husband's delight. Going to miss the first 10 days as we go on holiday tomorrow, not that I am complaining!

Considering the amount of absolute crap Raheem Sterling has been subjected to by having the temerity to be good at football, black and getting paid well I would say he is very likeable. And I'm a Man United fan!

For the game today you can say that a draw suits neither team as Egypt and Uruguay will probably be the top two in the group.

I can't wait, I hope an unexpected team win this year like Korea or Belgium or somewhere.

Germany to win ultimately. Love Ozil, Neuer and Muller, particularly.

The German/Turkish players thing with Erdogan was very interesting. German fans booing their own team at the last friendly.

I've just been listening to some football songs on YouTube, much to my son's disgust. He hates football! All my boys hate football. Confused

I just watch England play in the Euros and World Cup, so I'm not really into it. I don't even know who's on the team. Blush but Gareth Southgate went to the same school my kids are at (outs myself there!) so they were impressed when they saw one of their teachers on tv talking about him when he became manager.

EN-GER-LAND!!Football
