To be excited about the World Cup starting!

I know FIFA and Russia and whoever is involved is horrible in some way... But it's the actual World Cup. Mexico v South Korea suddenly becomes hugely important to my life! England have a likeable squad and manager. Ronaldo, Messi, Neymar. Spain sacking their manager yesterday.

It's so exciting isn't it!

Not into football really. Scottish born and bred. Would love England to win though! Would genuinely be happy. Smile

I love football and I’m missing it whilst it’s off-season so I love it when the World Cup or Euros are on Grin My husband’s a rugby man but I’ve converted him, although the sexist adverts/ Facebook posts etc that are always about at this time do bug me more than they probably should. I know it’s still a majority of male fans but plenty of women like football these days too, there are thousands at my local club.

team, thats nice to read. I dont have a lot of faith that England will do that well ( not that i know anything about the team or football, just from past experience and the fact that Germany are always very good in tournaments!)
but, you never know and with some big teams missing ( Holland and Italy ) there is always a glimmer of hope of getting on a bit further than they did in the Euros this time around. Would be lovely from the point of view of them not mentioning 1966 at every opportunity ( the same when andy Murray won Wimbledon and the whole Fred Perry thing was dropped!!) they seem a very young team from what i have seen - this may be a small advantage?

France v Australia, I have a soft spot for Tim Cahill and really hope he will score at his 4th World Cup. Punch that flag Timmy Football

I think France will win 4-0 today. They have a frighteningly good squad

The studios for ITV and BBC have great views.
Nice to see a woman on the BBC panel for the French match.

TornFromTheInside · 16/06/2018 10:59

I love that more and more women are having their say on radio and TV. The comments from them are as well informed as anybody else, and often better because they haven't benefitted from simply being an ex pro and automatically put on air.
Women's football is really taking off and there are lots more women at games now. I sit next to two elderly sisters at my matches!

Spain Vs Portugal last night was fantastic. That's the game we love (bar Pedro face clutching)

TornFromTheInside · 16/06/2018 11:04

Ronaldo hired expensive accountants to try and minimise tax. That's often how boundaries are pushed, and in his case, along with a number of other high profile names including Messi and Alonso, end up falling foul of rulings.

The80sweregreat · 16/06/2018 11:15

It’s good to see the women being represented as lots of women do watch and support football teams. I know a few myself.
I love the Aussie supporters cheering every ball!

derxa · 16/06/2018 11:23

Come on Australia!
I don't particularly like women panelists.

The80sweregreat · 16/06/2018 11:30

Derxa- why not? Not being goady but Women love sport as much as men. Lots will be tuning in - I’m interested (a bit ) but I live with three men ( dh and sons) and they are not bothered about it at all.

Amanduh · 16/06/2018 11:31

France not showing much so far.. hope this game improves 😴

The80sweregreat · 16/06/2018 11:32

France are a big lack lustre aren’t they?

HushabyeMountainGoat · 16/06/2018 11:32

I like to see female panellists too, preferably if they are from a football background themselves. I'm not as keen if it appears that they have been chosen more for looks than experience!

The80sweregreat · 16/06/2018 11:35

I was expecting a few goals by now.

derxa · 16/06/2018 11:36

Well it's good for women's sport but from my point of view the woman is someone I've never heard of taking the place of someone I have heard of. For instance Didier Drogba is on the panel this morning. I'd rather listen to him than a female footballer. And much as I think Gary Linekar is a twat he's brilliant at what he does and has played at the highest level in men's football.

derxa · 16/06/2018 11:38

All that build up for France was ridiculous

The80sweregreat · 16/06/2018 11:40

Derxa - i doubt they will have women panelist’s on there for the really big games. I bet it’s all men on Monday night for England v Tunisia!

derxa · 16/06/2018 11:43

Yes you're right The80s On reflection I'd rather have a woman than Alan Shearer boring for England.

The80sweregreat · 16/06/2018 11:46

Alan shearer is a bit bland isn’t he!
I don’t mind Gary - he is a good presenter if nothing else.

ToffeeUp · 16/06/2018 11:47

If women's football was shown more on tv, you would have heard of the them. I like Sue Smith as a pundit.

ToffeeUp · 16/06/2018 11:49

The worst pundit was Phil Neville, he is just as boring a panellist.

ForalltheSaints · 16/06/2018 11:59

France disappointing. Phil Neville is not even the best international coach in his family.

The80sweregreat · 16/06/2018 12:00

She is very entertaining at least - Drogba looks half asleep!

RoseWhiteTips · 16/06/2018 12:04

England v Tunisia? Wow, that’s not really evenly matched, is it? Should be epic.
