To be excited about the World Cup starting!

I know FIFA and Russia and whoever is involved is horrible in some way... But it's the actual World Cup. Mexico v South Korea suddenly becomes hugely important to my life! England have a likeable squad and manager. Ronaldo, Messi, Neymar. Spain sacking their manager yesterday.

It's so exciting isn't it!

Good to see the "overpaid" argument there. Considering they are the reason why millions of people will be tuning in today.

Most people are looking hopefully for a quarter final for England. I don't think that's disrespectful or thinking too far ahead.

The world cup is my favourite bandwagon to jump on. I have no interest in football in other circumstances. I've got Argentina in my work sweepstake and I also think Germany will win.

gingercat02 · 14/06/2018 12:51

Me not so much, I'm Irish, but my English 9 yo is beside himself so I'm sure we will be watching ⚽️

Costacoffeeplease · 14/06/2018 12:58

Glad not to have disappointed

But I see ‘prancing twats’ is ok Smile

OttilieKnackered · 14/06/2018 13:02

Costa, the England team donate all match fees to charity.

Costacoffeeplease · 14/06/2018 13:03

That’s good of them Hmm

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 14/06/2018 13:07

Yes, I agree, it’s very good of them. Smile

I really really hope Russia beats the shit out of the Saudis.

Being multi millionaires and all

RoseWhiteTips · 14/06/2018 13:33

The Northern Ireland commentator or on Radio 5 Live makes me want to scream. Even the English are not as partisan as that guy. He must be playing some sort of 1966 Bingo to make matters even more cringeworthy. Lol
Then when Engerland start losing, he starts attacking them.

Might be Alan Green.

A4710Rider · 14/06/2018 13:34

Talksport has unbiased coverage if that's your thing.

RoseWhiteTips · 14/06/2018 13:38

Unbiased coverage IF THAT’S YOUR THING?!

Erm...yes, it is. We don’t want jingoistic ranting in place of measured coverage, now do we?

A4710Rider · 14/06/2018 13:46

FFS.

Do you think Poland isn't talking about Poland? Germany about Germany? You're looking to be offended so just go away.

witchhazelblue · 14/06/2018 13:49

The only people who get really hyped up about international competitions these days are the media. Gives them something to talk about whether England do well or not.

I love football but find it difficult to follow the England team at the moment as I can't stand most of the first eleven. Especially Ashley Young, the diving knob.

user1471517900 · 14/06/2018 14:03

England first 11 is probably Pickford, Rose, Cahill, Stones, Walker, Trippier, Henderson, Lingard, Alli, Sterling, Kane. Is that really unlikeable. With Rashford perhaps in there too....

I think it's a very likeable squad!

Grin thank you for the suggestions. I’m gonna use them and read posts from this thread aloud as if they’re my own thoughts, casually dropped into the game. Just have to hope he doesn’t ask any questions Grin

A4710Rider · 14/06/2018 14:05

Every time he mentions "VAR" just whistle through your teeth and say "oohhhh controversial technology"

:)

user1471517900 · 14/06/2018 14:07

Also "the only important statistic is that one in the top corner" is a good one.

I would be excited, except I know England have ZERO chance of winning - or even getting to the quarter finals! Confused

user1471517900 · 14/06/2018 14:20

Zero chance of quarter finals? I would like to place a pound at your bookmakers. I will accept 100000 to 1 odds as I'm nice.

I love domestic football (apart from today when I've been in an online queue trying for tickets for next season since my club put them on sale at 10am) but international football just passes me by.

lindalee3 · 14/06/2018 14:39

Don't waste your money @user I have as much chance of flying to Mars on a skateboard as England have of even getting to the quarter finals at the World cup. And hell will freeze over before they win.

I'm not gonna lie; I would LOVE to be proven wrong. Grin

HipposareHungry · 14/06/2018 14:50

Grin thank you, this is brilliant!

His face will drop. Then when the weekend rolls around I can say ‘oi DS! Why don’t you take an interest in helping me with the gardening like I take an interest in the football’.

speakout · 14/06/2018 14:54

YANBU at all.

Great if you like it but won't affect me in any way.

One of the things I found attractive in my OH was his complete disinterest in football.
And consequently our kids have zero interest also.

We have a football free house!!
