I know FIFA and Russia and whoever is involved is horrible in some way... But it's the actual World Cup. Mexico v South Korea suddenly becomes hugely important to my life! England have a likeable squad and manager. Ronaldo, Messi, Neymar. Spain sacking their manager yesterday.

It's so exciting isn't it!

I found it impressive that Stalin and his moustache got a mention from the ITV commentary team 8 minutes into the tournament.

Aren't opening ceremonies usually a bit better than this Russian one?

Or am I mixing it up with the Olympics?

Robbie Williams. Hmm

The summer Olympic opening and closing ceremonies are pretty lavish usually.
This one today was a ‘blink and you’ll miss it!’ Robbie was ok - A Few dancers and all over in around 15 minutes.

The euros was a bit meh closing wise though that maybe cause I'm not a big David guetta fan.. It just looked like he was pressing some buttons.. Got made into a video lol.

Some are a lot better!

On the Guardian website they said this one was more ‘ super bowl ‘ half time entertainment. It was a bit!
I know Robbie W isn’t a mumsnet favourite but he looked cool in his red suit. The old hits are the best.

I have worked my arse off today (and that's a lot of work given the size of my arse) to finish in time to watch football. I have beer, crisps and football and frankly I cannot smile wide enough that it's finally here.

This, added to the fixtures announced today (supporting a newly promoted team) is a pretty good football day all round.

Even VAR has failed to debt my mood

I presume 1966 got a mention before that?

I hate bloody football but I am looking forward to seeing the top of my DH's head while he watches it on the laptop and I have complete control of the telly for a few weeks.

Now if only I could mute his excited yelps!

That was unexpected! Not that Russia won but that it was so convincing.

I have much less interest than usual. Not just because Wales are not there, but also no Italy, no Netherlands and the timing of games.

Fudge- 30 sounds better.

( i was one when England won in 1966 so 30 is good for me..)
That Russian fourth goal was amazing.

Has a look at the tables today - didn’t realise Italy didn’t qualify this year.

How did Saudi Arabia qualify and holland and Italy didn’t?

Report
BitOutOfPractice · 14/06/2018 19:50

Because Saudi played in the Asian qualification competition whereas Holland were in the much more competitive European qualifying group. Also Holland are having issues shall we say at the moment. That explains why Iran are at the World Cup and Italy is not.
