To be excited about the World Cup starting!

I know FIFA and Russia and whoever is involved is horrible in some way... But it's the actual World Cup. Mexico v South Korea suddenly becomes hugely important to my life! England have a likeable squad and manager. Ronaldo, Messi, Neymar. Spain sacking their manager yesterday.

It's so exciting isn't it!

I think the Egyptians have discarded the Xmas Tree formation and gone for the Pyramid... they look dead and buried to me!

WhiteHartLane · 19/06/2018 20:39

Eygpt have been disappointing. Considering all the injuries the Russia team have suffered I'm impressed with how they have performed so far (albeit against poor opposition).

TornFromTheInside · 19/06/2018 20:52

I was hoping one of them would be sent off - then I could make a joke about 'Walk like an Egyptian'

BitchQueen90 · 19/06/2018 21:00

Looks like Russia and Uruguay will be the ones going through for Group A then!

TornFromTheInside · 19/06/2018 21:03

Usually good that the hosts get through - in terms of atmosphere and support.
If they go out early, I think it dampens the atmosphere.

Quite pleased that Russia's image is improving, but I hope it causes positive change for Russia too.

The80sweregreat · 20/06/2018 06:19

They were saying on five live radio yesterday that the Russians like the British team, lots of support for them over there. even the presenter said that was good to hear ( makes a change!)

There could be a very lopsided second round draw here. All really depends if Germany don't top their group. I might be right in saying they could play Brazil in round 2....

Hearing rumours that Neymar may not be fit to play. That will be a blow for Brazil.

BitOutOfPractice · 20/06/2018 09:51

I think England is often popular in countries like Russia that don't have great leagues themselves because they watch a lot of Premiership football throughout the season. I know all of my Dutch family and friends support one premiership team or another. I guess it's the same in Russia. I know that most Premireship teams aren't made up of English players but it gives a bit of footballing affinity which is great!

BitOutOfPractice · 20/06/2018 09:52

Neymar was awful in the first game

LinoleumBlownapart · 20/06/2018 12:49

My teen DS just sent me this

"Stand up Neymar, we're still singing the national anthem, you dick!"

Gareth Southgate's dislocated his shoulder!

Wonder where he left it?

BitchQueen90 · 20/06/2018 19:49

Thought Spain would have a goal by now!

ilovesooty · 20/06/2018 19:51

Was Southgate running with Ramos? Grin

RoseWhiteTips · 20/06/2018 20:23

Haha🤣

user1471517900 · 20/06/2018 20:28

Thought Iran were level then!

How was that penalty given?

user1471517900 · 21/06/2018 13:44

His arm was away from body. I can see why they was given. Good game this!

WhiteHartLane · 21/06/2018 13:48

Seemed a bit harsh but yes makes it an interesting game at 1-1. Think Australia could nick this one.

LapsedHumanist · 21/06/2018 14:04

Martin O’Neill got a bit aggro there “I’m right”...

ToffeeUp · 21/06/2018 18:32

Roy Keane didn't like the Peru team, did he?

I only saw the last 15 minutes and they looked devastated after the final whistle. Their fans are amazing!

WhiteHartLane · 21/06/2018 20:13

That goal keep error is up there with Karius's. Not going well for Argentina so far in this tournament.

GingerKitCat · 21/06/2018 20:39

GOAL! (no.2) Go Croatia! Grin

WhiteHartLane · 21/06/2018 20:40

And what a beautiful goal it was!!
