To ask you all just HOW painful is a Brazilian wax?! (and other questions)

So, after 10 years of trimming my lady garden, I'm considering trying a bikini wax for the first time out of curiosity (I don't shave down there because I get ingrown hairs). I have a few questions...
How bad is the pain - both initial and the aftermath?! Like on a scale of 1 - 10?
How long does it take for the hair to grow back?
If you get it done regularly, does the hair eventually stop growing back?
Any bikini wax tips/funny stories/horror stories?
Thanks in advance!

Usually you just lie on your stomach and hold your bum cheeks 😂😂😂 when pregnant you lie on your side and move the upper leg forward. I would love to have the balls to say something - I’m really going to have to in 2 weeks because I can’t go on like this forever. It’s a bit cheeky of them isn’t it? Like maybe they don’t want to do it but then they shouldn’t be doing a Brazilian!

@GeorgeTheHippo
Intrigued for a friend of mine too

Hohofortherobbers · 17/06/2018 21:59

Used to get a full Hollywood done regularly pre children and my word it stung! First time I expected to see my labia on the wax strip it hurt so bad, agree with ibuprofen and keep it short. Having had my dc and 2 episiotomies I don't think I can inflict it upon my poor vulva these days, it deserves more TLC than that. So I trim, use veet occasionally and epilate the sides.

Wussypants · 17/06/2018 22:00

Re. the piles question Grin...seeing as they don't grow hair, I'd guess they'd simply wax around them?

I've heard it depends a lot on hair colour. I'm a redhead and apparently my hair is therefore thicker. I bled a lot when I had waxes and my therapist was mortified - she had to do the same areas 3 times. I was so sore and bruised afterwards sex was off the menu for ages which defeated the point.

PurpleCrowbar · 17/06/2018 22:23

Um.

I just slather with a handful of hair removing cream every couple of weeks.

Then shower it off after 10 minutes.

Minimal cost, no pain, & no stranger dabbing wax on my starfish whilst we chat about holidays.

Regrowth is soft & fine.

What am I missing that is selling you all on this salon waxing malarkey?!

Carver16x · 17/06/2018 22:33

I get Hollywood and it is so worth it but I agree about the hot wax also numbing cream from the chemist Smile

Wussypants · 17/06/2018 23:01

I've tried hair removal cream a few times on my legs, but it started stinging immediately so I washed it off before it had a chance to work. Plus I think it only removes the hair just underneath the skin so doesn't last as long as waxing? I was curious to try waxing, I found it fine and can afford it atm, so why not? I'm planning to use my phillips lumea on my bikini area (not on the really intimate bits!) post waxing, so hopefully I'll only need to go ever few months eventually. I also don't have a problem with paying a stranger to rip out my pubes Grin- I see plenty of naked bits in my line of work, it's just part of the job that they chose to do!

I found hollywood slightly worse than brazillian but my therapist keeps telling me that she is almost done but she can stop if I'd like so I just grit my teeth and get through the final strips. That part is more sensitive by far for me!! For the back area I just bring my knees up to my chest and hold my legs and it is all over in a second; no getting onto all fours thankfully! I hate regrowth though so tend to shave rather than wait to get waxed again, so each time I do go for waxing it is like the first time all over again, as I have to allow the hair to grow back long enough to be waxed. Used Veet when pregnant and didn't have the flexibility to shave down there (and couldn't see what I was doing due to the bump!); haven't waxed since c-section and a little nervous about the scar hurting

amusedbush · 18/06/2018 11:50

Hair removal cream burns like fuck so I don’t go near the stuff now!

7seas · 19/06/2018 00:36

Back to the piles question. Again for a friend. She is concerned about pulling arse cheeks apart and displaying a bunch of grapes. That and the thought of said bunch of grapes being ripped off along with the hair is a slight cause for concern. Apparently.

FluteMum · 19/06/2018 04:07

@7seas you are making me laugh so much! And also your friend's concerns seem very valid to me.
I do my own waxing with strip wax and take most of it off. It doesn't hurt much. The more you do it, the less it hurts. I've been doing it myself for over 10 years now and there's hardly any hair left in some places.

7seas · 19/06/2018 04:20

Thank you flutemum I shall pass the info on to my friend and she can self wax without shame 🤣

GeorgeTheHippo · 19/06/2018 07:52

Could my friend keep something on during the waxing that would cover the centre of the crack and the piles and still get an ok result? She wouldn't want all the hair off, leaving some in the centre would be fine. Or would the waxer expect her to take her knickers off as that is standard procedure?

I've decide to stay yeti like after an unfortunate incident with a home wax strip where it almost took my arsehole with it
I'll never forget seeing the strip with a ring of hair and blood
My poor hoop looked like I'd been shot right in the bullseye for ages

7seas · 19/06/2018 16:18

GrinGrin omg if this thread started off seriously it has had me in stitches. Sorry OP.

Howling at hoop being shot in the bullseye

eightfacesofthemoon · 19/06/2018 20:43

Seem to be a lot of friends with piles!
The waxing people must see it regularly!

If I could travel back in time to advise my younger self on this topic it would go something like this:
Dear Younger me,
You are either on drugs or it's one of your not so wise blind epiphanies. Why would you consider having hot (imagine same heat as candle wax dripping on your skin) wax slathered on some of your most sensitive parts only to then have it ripped off (same pain as being slapped hard on a very sore sunburn, to the point where the words SOB escape your lips and you start to think of any excuse not to continue).
Once that is done yes there is the 'oh it's so soft' moment but hey it really does last for like a nano second before you feel the itchiness of the small bumps coming up as the hair tries to grow back and find its way through your skin. (Yes even when you exfoliate there is no escaping it). Then you have to wait for it to grow out to have it redone. That is of course if you are lucky and don't get the little bumps and cuts from scratching or even worse and ingrown hair as they try to grow back.
Do yourself a favor and slap on some hair conditioner and invest in a nice ladie a razor and shave it off on a daily basis. Yes hair conditioner, try it and you will thank me. It's far better than any lather.

JessieMcJessie · 20/06/2018 06:47

I had my first ever Brazilian done in ACTUAL BRAZIL. The woman had a big vat of wax that looked like an old paint pot and was about 60 and built like a brick shithouse. The waxing area was a cubkicke that reminded me of a changing room in a 1970s public swimming pool, with blue paper on the bench and a list on the wall of individual prices for various intimate body parts (I looked most of them up in the dictionary afterwards, my eyes popped). She was amazingly skilled and I was an instant convert.
Years later I lived in Hong Kong and my waxer’s English was pretty basic, I laughed when she said “OK I do you asshole now?”.

Mummadeeze · 20/06/2018 06:48

I get regular waxing done - hot wax only. Each time is a little more bearable but I still find it grows back too quickly and the cost is annoying. Am going to try removal cream after reading this thread!

JessieMcJessie · 20/06/2018 06:51

I must be doing hair removal cream wrong, it never makes the hair disappear completely, I can always still see black pinpricks or very short hairs. And it’s so smelly and messy. Personally I get a good week of totally smooth and not bumpy skin after a bikini wax, once the initial redness has gone.

crapp · 20/06/2018 07:05

When I had it done I ended up with bruises all over the side bits (bikini rgion/high leg) that were severe and it looked like someone had kicked me in the fanny... I don't understand why that hppened apart from the girl was quite young, about 19 and she said she was new so I wonder if she hadn't had much training. I was in there abut an hour and it was meant to be 15 minutes, and she seemed to go over the same areas again and again. The bruising was really bad and I actually wish I'd taken a photo or gone back and complained because I had to avoid anything to do with sex for over 2 weeks because of the bruising. I also forked out £45 or £40 for it to be left looking like that. I do bruise very easily but this was ridiulous, you could see pools of blood under my skin.

LuMarie · 20/06/2018 07:34

It lasts a good month to six weeks for me, the longer you do it for the softer the hair becomes and the more slowly it comes back.

If I could go back in time I'd have my younger self skip the messy, smelly creams that actually say you shouldn't put them on especially delicate places anyway and just go to waxing.

The creams dissolve the hair so it comes away, waxing actually takes it out. That's why waxing lasts so much longer and hair gets softer and grows back thinner over time.

Shaving, nooooooooooo. Not for a brazilian (which just feels and looks so much more pleasant), sharp things delicate places, no. Plus it's every day, not forget about it for a month at least and not have to worry.

@crapp Yes it sound like she was very new. It should be quick and not leave bruises for two weeks. I once had all waxing done in another country when I was traveling, the salon in the little town said yes of course we do that, meaning same same but different, we try. I stopped them at 16 times going over same place unsuccessfully underarm, they kept calling new people to come help/see a white girl's pussy. I had to spend the evening sitting in a pool to cool down and then put cold drink cans from the minibar (yes I replaced them!) under my arms to sleep:)

Kicked you in the f* lol, yep when they get it wrong it is always interesting!
