To ask you all just HOW painful is a Brazilian wax?! (and other questions)

So, after 10 years of trimming my lady garden, I'm considering trying a bikini wax for the first time out of curiosity (I don't shave down there because I get ingrown hairs). I have a few questions...
How bad is the pain - both initial and the aftermath?! Like on a scale of 1 - 10?
How long does it take for the hair to grow back?
If you get it done regularly, does the hair eventually stop growing back?
Any bikini wax tips/funny stories/horror stories?
Thanks in advance!

Good for you OP! I agree not that painful and SO worth it, feels amazing afterwards

Ohyesiam · 16/06/2018 23:17

Full Hollywood op?

Wussypants · 16/06/2018 23:29

When she pulled the first bit off I was like "is that it?!" Grin

Not sure whether to get Brazilian next, or jump straight to Hollywood, leaning towards Hollywood atm...but might feel less brave in 4-6 weeks!

I had a "Californian" one this time - basically high leg bikini with a bit off towards the back. Wasn't brave enough to try a Hollywood for my first time!

There's not much difference between Hollywood (all off) and Brazilian (all of except a little strip) to be honest in terms of pain. Most of your hair is whipped off with both!

LuMarie · 17/06/2018 08:39

It stings a bit the first time, less and less so as you keep it up. It doesn’t bother me at all now.

Completely worth it. Done in a few seconds and lasts six weeks to two months.

crispysausagerolls · 17/06/2018 10:25

Has anyone had the awkward situation where they have a different wax therapist one month and that therapist doesn’t take off the back area? I feel like it’s so awkward to ask them, but isn’t that what we pay for?

amusedbush · 17/06/2018 10:40

crispysausagerolls

There’s a beauty therapist local to me who seems to view a brazilian as a thin strip the whole way around, so basically a VERY high bikini wax. When I saw it and asked her to take of everything apart from the strip at the front, she looked baffled. She did take off a bit more but seemed aversed to... ahem... moving any intimate parts so I was left with little tufts that I had to run a razor over myself Blush

I didn’t go back! My usual therapist is so thorough it’s practically a date 😂

bbqseason · 17/06/2018 12:16

Crispy yes in a new salon the I tried. I didn't go back!

crispysausagerolls · 17/06/2018 12:42

Isn’t so mortifying isn’t it? Every other therapist has always removed everything at the back (and that’s the nicest bit to have hair free IMO), and my most recent one hasn’t been doing it (same salon weirdly) and I just didn’t know how to ask. And now she has left and another one is taking over and I am nervous because I can’t go on like this lol I mean they are quite expensive waxes and if she is leaving the bottom half there it’s a bit like...if they aren’t offering to do it it feels almost offensive to ask them 😂🙈

Wussypants · 17/06/2018 19:59

How weird for them to not do the back, surely that's the whole point of a Brazilian?!

Just out of curiousty, how much do you usually pay for a Brazilian/Hollywood? The place I went to charges 30/35 quid, but there's another salon a bit out of town that only charges 20/25 quid (both are for 'hot waxes' instead of warm strip wax, which is a bit cheaper).

If you can, get someone trained with Lycon Wax, its the least painful I have had xx

Lotsofsausage · 17/06/2018 20:09

It’s painful but can reduced by hot wax rather than strip wax and paracetamol beforehand... they do it really quickly so doesn’t hurt for long. You’ll need to exfoliate LOTS afterwards. Will start to grow back in a week or so. Fully grown back in a month. Apply witch hazel or sudocrem after.

zenasfuck · 17/06/2018 20:28

What does one do if one has a rather large belly that hangs over ones fanny ?

*asking for a friend

crispysausagerolls · 17/06/2018 20:35

Mine costs 45£, which is expensive and why I’m even more annoyed at them not doing the back! You are right OP, it IS the whole point!

Wussypants · 17/06/2018 21:12

45 quid!! God I'd be miffed if I was forking out that for what's basically a high leg bikini wax. I'd probably not have the guts ro actually do it, but when it came to paying I'd be tempted to refuse to pay for a Brazilian and just pay however much they charge for a high leg one.

Erm, also, what position do you have to in to 'do the back'? All fours?! Grin

louderthan · 17/06/2018 21:26

Yes it hurts but only momentarily. Trim, take painkillers beforehand and it'll be fine.

StruggsToFunc · 17/06/2018 21:29

Just be aware that if you’re prone to ingrowns after shaving you’ll quite possibly get them after waxing too. Get some preventative Tendskin or Ingrow-Go to apply to the area once regrowtg begins.

eightfacesofthemoon · 17/06/2018 21:30

Funny isn’t it. We spend our lives trying to get rid of hair and then when we get old we start to go bald and totally freak out. Bdciasd naturally losing hair is not attractive apparently

eightfacesofthemoon · 17/06/2018 21:31

*because!

ThatchersCold · 17/06/2018 21:32

It’s really not that bad. Don’t go just before your period as it hurts more then, and bosh a couple of painkillers an hour before.

If childbirth is 10, fanny waxing is like a 2.

Prometheus · 17/06/2018 21:33

I get a normal bikini wax twice a year before holidays and trim or use Immac at other times. It does hurt but pain is only fleeting (think stubbed toe). However the ingrown hairs really annoy me. I’m two weeks post wax and I have just spent 10mins sat on the loo picking each individual hair out of my skin with my nail (every single one grows back ingrown).

ThatchersCold · 17/06/2018 21:34

To ‘do the back’ sometimes I’ve been asked to go on all fours, sometimes lie on my side and hold my bum cheeks apart Grin. Depends who you go to.

dementedma · 17/06/2018 21:41

I simply could not begin to envisage asking (paying) a stranger to rip the hairs out of my labia and arsehole! All power to you ladies, but just could not do this

GeorgeTheHippo · 17/06/2018 21:48

Can someone answer the piles question for my *cough friend?
