To ask you all just HOW painful is a Brazilian wax?! (and other questions)

So, after 10 years of trimming my lady garden, I'm considering trying a bikini wax for the first time out of curiosity (I don't shave down there because I get ingrown hairs). I have a few questions...
How bad is the pain - both initial and the aftermath?! Like on a scale of 1 - 10?
How long does it take for the hair to grow back?
If you get it done regularly, does the hair eventually stop growing back?
Any bikini wax tips/funny stories/horror stories?
Thanks in advance!

Brazilian is a strip left and the Hollywood is to take it all off.

Get a therapist that uses Lycon wax "virtually pain free",

I get a full body wax every 4 weeks, hair starts to grow back after 2 weeks and fully back after 3 1/2

Been getting this done for 3 years!

Gunpowder · 08/06/2018 10:43

Yes yes to Lycon wax.

JingsMahBucket my work toilets are a bit dubious.
I’ll sit at home.
Oh my god, ever wish you’d not bothered giving an answer haha

It hurts but only as they are pulling, after wards it stings but not majorly. Mine lasts about a month, if I am lucky it will last longer but I go every month as then I dont need to trim the hair down and for some reason hurts less than if I leave the hair to get 'bedded'.

DONT let anyone go at you with strip wax - hot wax is less painful
DONT go round the time of your month as you will be more sensitive
DONT let anyone go round your lady area with talcum powder... (bad waxing experience)
DONT worry about the 'humiliating' positions, the technician has seen it all before and isn't analysing your vagina (I only ever have the front part done and the position is on the back with legs in a 'froggy' position...)
DONT exercise afterwards

DO definitely go for hot wax - its worth it
DO find someone that is used to doing that area, I have a lovely lady who is amazing and my waxing last so much longer and hurts way less.
DO take paracetamol before you go in! Took it for the first time this week and it was amazing! So much better.

I am sure a lot of ladies have already said the same things but those are my top tips!

bellsandwhistles89 · 08/06/2018 12:01

I know that you can use laser on your bikini area but dont go to close to the intimate area as I dont even think professionals go all the way round and they instead leave a little moustache. Just check before you go hell for leather and hurt yourself...I may be wrong and happy to be corrected.

WittyJack · 08/06/2018 12:02

It really varies - I find lower legs more painful; my friend finds it so bad that she has a small vodka shot first as anaesthetic!

It's worth it IMO - you do feel much more fresh and clean (although that's just me personally; others will disagree!) - it's worth trying. If you don't like it, it'll grow back.

Puddlejumps · 08/06/2018 12:29

Mari50 you are hilarious 😁

helpconfused · 08/06/2018 13:07

I get a wax every 4 weeks. She uses the pink warm gum type wax. It doesn't leave a sticky residue.
Have done for about 12 years now, wouldn't be without it.
It hurts when they pull it off but not often afterwards.
I have to bring my knees up to my chest and hold the back of my legs when she does 'round the back'.

Wussypants · 08/06/2018 19:28

I've booked a 'Californian Harley Hot Chocolate Wax' for a week tomorrow, will update on how it goes...planning on having a couple of painkillers beforehand and maybe a glass of wine too Grin

I do it myself. I have been giving myself a full Hollywood for about 15 years. The pain is gone in a millisecond. As I have been doing it for so long, I am not sure it would grow back to a full bush.

I hate having hair there. It is so uncomfortable and unhygienic.

Fluffyears · 08/06/2018 22:25

Its actually more hygienic, the hair is meant to be there.

I got a Hollywood and my tips are, ibuprofen an hour beforehand, trim your bush, take a deep breath then release as she pulls the wax off. My therapist asked if a wanted paper pants, then said ‘it doesn’t matter as i’ll See it anyway!’ I took them though for my own peace of mind. The worst part is the inner part of the lips, the bit that curves in it really hurts but it’s a small part. For the arse crack I had to lie in foetal position and pull one cheek up the way.

HildaZelda · 08/06/2018 22:40

I've had it done a few times. I can't say it's pleasant but it's not as bad as I'd feared. I've had underarms done twice. Jesus! Never again. Brazilian/Hollywood is nothing in comparison.

blinkineckmum · 08/06/2018 22:42

So painful and humiliating.

Stopandlook · 08/06/2018 22:49

Definitely too much of a wuss and too shy to contemplate this sort of pain! Is it so bad to have some hair there?

Fluffyears · 08/06/2018 22:54

@ahoydelboy I believe a Hollywood is the full ‘telly savalas’ but with the Brazilian you are left with s very thin landing strip.

LRH1983 · 08/06/2018 23:02

Erm @Gatecrasher61 no it isn't on any way unhygienic to have hair on and around your vulva, get a grip! It's supposed to be there. If your personal preference is to remove it then more power to you but don't spread that rubbish!

@Wussypants, it will be painful but it's really not that bad at all. Echo pps advice, most importantly DON'T go just before or just after your period, it makes things so much worse. But honestly, I have a Brazilian every 5-6 weeks, started with a Hollywood around 15 years ago and have been going ever since. It's not fun but it's totally fine. And I am a redhead- we typically have coarser Hair, more sensitive skin and, cruelly, a lower pain threshold than most. So if I can take it, so can you Grin

smudgedlipstick · 08/06/2018 23:19

I genuinely don't think it's that bad, sometimes I have to pause my conversation when my beautician pulls as sometimes you need to breathe in unison with it being pulled if that makes sense? It gets better every time though. Some pp saying that grow back 1-2 months, I bloody wish, mine starts growing back within about 2 weeks, after the 5 weeks it's definitely in need of waxing again!

SophieGiroux · 08/06/2018 23:20

What I don't get is what happens in between waxes? You have to let it grow to a certain length to get it waxed so if you're a regular swimmer for example, do you have to put up with a pant moustache until the hair is long enough?

7seas · 08/06/2018 23:32

What if you have piles though? Asking for a friend Grin

didsomeonesaybunny · 08/06/2018 23:54

I don’t find it pleasant OP but I do think the results are worth it. I always feel so much cleaner and fresher when I’ve had one. My growth takes around 6-8 weeks.

Candyflip · 09/06/2018 00:03

Don’t you wash gatecrasher?

Wussypants · 16/06/2018 22:59

Had my wax done earlier today and honestly didn't hurt that much at all! Few moments of "oh!"...but those only lasted a few seconds. Very suprised cos as my username suggests, I am a wuss Grin. Definitely converted to waxing!
