To really like Grand Theft Auto?

I'm mid 30s but still love video gaming. It takes a lot to get into a game the older I get but I have a few firm favourites- The Sims, SimCity and GTA. DH has just bought me GTA5 and I love it! The intestine world, driving around LA, the silly radio stations, the madly innapropriate dialogue - even the ironic stuff like the characters telling off their kids for playing violent video games - it's like an escape from reality. I can so see why kids get obsessed with stuff like this.

AIBU to love something that a lot of people (parents especially) my age frown upon?

I’m so sorry for the multi tag annoyance but thought those that like the Sims (2) would be interested in this. After this thread I mentioned the game to a colleague and he said that when the sims 4 came out they released the Sims 2 and every expansion pack for free on origin and if you had the serial number from the original game and you contacted EA support, they would give you the download for free even now although the offer officially ended years ago.

When I got home I went through loads of old boxes in the loft until I found the game, contacted EA support via live chat, opened the case...and the manual wasn’t in there! I had no serial number as that’s where it is printed. I had no idea where it was and asked if they knew if I could find it by inserting the disc but they just said to take a photo of the discs and the box and a piece of paper with my name and the date on it. So I did and now I have the Sims 2 and 16 expansion/stuff packs in my Origin library Smile Yay nostalgia and yay to colleague who normally annoys me but will try and be extra nice to tomorrow Grin just in case any of you are able to and want to do it or is it just me living in the past?

Sorry for the long post, I am childishly excited to play this after the disappointing Sims-by-numbers Sims 4.

GrandTheftWalrus · 23/05/2018 19:53

I shall try that! Thanks for letting me know.

We got red dead redemption the other day from the charity shop and DP is trying to play it but he keeps falling off the horse. It's hilarious!

We also love call of duty. Started playing it when I was pregnant and when I got further on the baby would start kicking when we were playing.

Also tried to play when in labour, that didn't go well!

HmmGrey · 23/05/2018 19:57

GTA San Andreas and V are brilliant.
Far Cry, Mafia 3 & Dying Light too

Overcooked is great multiplayer fun- Definitely one for kids and adults.

HmmGrey · 23/05/2018 19:58

I forgot Sims. Fav was 2 but I would play any!

ChevalierTialys · 23/05/2018 19:58

@MissionItsPossible thanks for the info! I miss sending babies to nap in the pet beds. Cant do it in Sims 3 or 4, only 2.

Eagerly awaiting red dead 2 as the first one was brilliant!

MidnightAura · 23/05/2018 19:58

Thanks for mentioning @MissionItsPossible! I already have the UC for the sims 2. Don’t forget everyone to get the game to recognise your graphics card by using the graphics rules maker. Makes my game look amazing!

MissionItsPossible · 23/05/2018 20:12

@MidnightAura What is the graphics rules maker? Is that in-game graphic settings or a separate program?

MidnightAura · 23/05/2018 20:18

It's a separate programme, (it's legit though) it enables your game to run in 1080 and smooths your edges etc.

www.simsnetwork.com/tools/graphics-rules-maker

Instructions on how to download it are here. It's very simple.

MidnightAura · 23/05/2018 20:21

So many good games this year, Red dead 2. Two point hospital and Detroit: Become Human this week.

MissionItsPossible · 23/05/2018 20:22

Thank you @MidnightAura. I'm going to PM you as don't want to clog up this thread going back and forth!

DailyMailReadersAreThick · 23/05/2018 20:23

I love it too, albeit I don't bother with the missions and trundle around happily as a taxi driver... interspersed with killing sprees on the beach.

MidnightAura · 23/05/2018 20:24

@MissionItsPossible no problem!

MissionItsPossible · 23/05/2018 20:26

Sent!

To bring it back to GTA, did anyone use to play Vice City and find the radio station K-Chat and the commercials on there generally hilarious? Grin

MidnightAura · 23/05/2018 20:39

I love the chat shows on all the GTAs. I always listen to them.

The adverts were so funny.

MissionItsPossible · 23/05/2018 21:17

Dad, no one wants to hear ya stupid Vietnam stories!

EnglishRose13 · 23/05/2018 21:31

You could be me! I love The Sims and play it all the time.

RaspberryRuffless · 23/05/2018 21:40

I love GTA, 4 is my favourite, I’ve completed that games several times! I do love 5 as well though. I also like The Crew and looking forward to the new one coming out soon. Massive Sims fan too!

MothertotheLordsofmisrule · 23/05/2018 21:55

Shadow of the Colossus - that horse is a dick sometimes.

Skyrim - stop wandering off horse!
Also “Nooo dragon! Don’t eat my horse”

Minecraft - just jump over the tiny block you stoopid pony.

Luckily Fallout has no horses.

ChevalierTialys · 23/05/2018 22:11

Skyrim - going on giant/mammoth hunts on the horse, excellent fun! Until you let the giant get to close and it kills you and your horse in one blow....

ICantCopeAnymore · 23/05/2018 22:12

Has anyone just seen the new Battlefront V teaser? I think I like it. Anything WWII is good though.

Sophisticatedsarcasm · 23/05/2018 22:15

I love gta! I usually play it more if I’m super stressed as oddly I find it relieving. I love video games and I’m just 30. Crash bandicoot, nba, all the old Skool games. I’ve completed grand theft auto5 3 times. Who cares what others think as long as your enjoying it.

MothertotheLordsofmisrule · 23/05/2018 22:18

Oh I forgot about the “Run Lola Run” challenge in Skyrim.

Choose a city.

Removal all armour and weapons except for a dagger.

Twat the city ruler with dagger.

See how far you can get before the guards catch you.

BASE jumping using Become Ethereal shout.

Nothisispatrick · 23/05/2018 22:22

I found fallout very stressful, it seemed to get way too hard for my level very quickly. I wanted to be able to relax without being attacked by super mutants on every fucking corner and was always worried about my dog.

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 23/05/2018 22:24

PUBG Mobile. Run around an island or the Mexican desert picking up guns as you go. Completely free, no pay to win. Things like chasing people in dune buggies or VW campers, bashing them with frying pans, hiding in long grass waiting for the other player to blink first.

ChevalierTialys · 23/05/2018 22:38

I find having companions (that can be permanently killed) stressful. In Skyrim I got pretty attached to Lydia and then I accidentally pushed her off a mountain and she died. And I hadn't saved for hours so if I'd loaded back in I'd have lost about 4 hours hoarding gaming.
