To really like Grand Theft Auto?

I'm mid 30s but still love video gaming. It takes a lot to get into a game the older I get but I have a few firm favourites- The Sims, SimCity and GTA. DH has just bought me GTA5 and I love it! The intestine world, driving around LA, the silly radio stations, the madly innapropriate dialogue - even the ironic stuff like the characters telling off their kids for playing violent video games - it's like an escape from reality. I can so see why kids get obsessed with stuff like this.

AIBU to love something that a lot of people (parents especially) my age frown upon?

I'm sure we will update one day Siwel but it's far from a priority at the moment!

OnTheporch · 23/05/2018 11:58

You don't murder prostitues, you beat them up and rob them - THEN murder them (if you're that way inclined)

You can buy all manner of property.
From small garage to keep 2 cars all the waybup to high rise penthouse apartments woth loads of garage space, business a biker club house etc etc.
Online is immense.

You can kill hookers yes. But saying the game is about killing them is like saying The Bible is about Noahs Wife.. sure shes in it.. but its a tiny tiny tiny tiny part.

ICantCopeAnymore · 23/05/2018 12:00

Lethal - if you're so against games, why do you insist on spending time commenting negative things on all tbe threads about them?

People enjoy games, get on with your life

NearLifeExperience · 23/05/2018 12:02

Isn't thst the murdering prostitutes game or has that gone now

Ah, here we go. The oasis of calm and appreciation shattered.

Nothisispatrick · 23/05/2018 12:03

GTA v is great, I started playing GTA when I was quite young with 3 and vice city, but they're so great. I love Franklin, such a nice boy.

I'm also a big sims fan, but have stuck with Sims 3 as I didn't like the sound of 4.

Nothisispatrick · 23/05/2018 12:04

I don't know why the focus is always on prostitutes. You can murder who ever you want really.

MidnightAura · 23/05/2018 12:06

Another GTA and sims fan here!

Love both series as I’ve grown up with both. Love gaming in general though although I know that makes me an outcast on mumsnet. My DH is a game developer and gets to go to E3. I’m so jealous!

Morgan12 · 23/05/2018 12:07

I wish they would hurry up with gta6. Done gta5 three times now.

Also recommend Until Dawn. Brilliant game and you get to choose outcomes etc so the game is different every time.

KlutzyDraconequus · 23/05/2018 12:10

Ive seen this a lot obee the years. Not just i games either.

Ask some one aboit religion, athiests have to butt in. Ask someone about pregnancy, men have to have their say. Etc

Its bizarre. There are times when people who have no experience or idea about a topic should stfu.

Now if you'll excuse me, i, as an unemployed wastrel, need to go tell a brain surgeon that he's doing it wrong.

ChevalierTialys · 23/05/2018 12:11

Am 31, DP and I are both gamers. He likes a variety, I'm mainly about the RPG's.

Loooooove GTA5, I mostly play as Franklin as his driving skill thingy is useful. My friend and I used to work for Parking Enforcement IRL and we still to this day park correctly in bays and stuff on the game Grin. Very strongly dislike Trevor and avoid playing as him as much as possible. In all my play throughs (apart from the first one) I kill Trevor at the end!

Sims!!! Loved 2, love 3 just as much. 4 absolutely sucks balls and has been uninstalled.

Lethaldrizzle · 23/05/2018 12:15

I can't cope - there are at least 2 threads on AIBU right now about the problems gaming is causing families. But I'm sure a game in which you assault and murder prostitutes has it pluses!

pigaletta · 23/05/2018 12:18

Love GTA, also LA Noire is fascinating, you drive around 1940s Los Angeles solving crimes! It’s brill

RemainOptimistic · 23/05/2018 12:18

@LilMadAgain Love a good spree on saints row Grin

I played sims 2 on pc and now have sims 4 on xbox one. What's up with sims 4? Seems fun so far! Love building mad houses and spending hours on the decor!

ICantCopeAnymore · 23/05/2018 12:19

Lethal - do jog along, dear. You seem to have made it your mission to tell gamers why they are wrong.

I've been playing games for over 30 years. You won't be influencing me in any way.

Also, I've done plenty of research into the effects of gaming on children. As I've said on other threads, it was my Master's research topic and my dissertation for my Primary Ed degree and my PGCE. I'm passionate about games and their positive impact on attainment.

Until you've done enough research to prove mine wrong, I won't be engaging with your miserable comments any more.

👋

Lethaldrizzle

In gaming parlance 'get rekt'

ICantCopeAnymore · 23/05/2018 12:19

Or that. Grin

siwel123 · 23/05/2018 12:21

Lethal. You don't have to kill anyone or anything. But it's bloody good fun to do!Grin

PaddyF0dder · 23/05/2018 12:21

Nope. Play away. GTA V may be the best game ever made in my opinion.

More than 4 years on, and I still love driving around that world exploring and causing mischief. It’s a towering achievement of a game.

MamaBear2181 · 23/05/2018 12:22

That may be Lethal but the posters on this thread aren't experiencing any and have every right to enjoy computer games... Maybe the majority of us are of age, playing age appropriate games in a responsible way that doesn't cause problems in our homes? I enjoy plenty of hobbies, gaming is just one of them.

KaosReigns · 23/05/2018 12:26

Love gta5 spent the first hour just admiring the graphics. Tried playing while pregnant, stole a yacht and tried to take it up the rivers to escape the cops, got very hormonal when I totalled it. Dh thought it was hilarious.

Lethaldrizzle · 23/05/2018 12:26

Icantcope - lets do a deal, how about I jog along off these gamer threads and you stop trying to extol the virtues of gaming to all those poor parents whose kids are addicted and behaving vilely? Or we can just continue with what should be a polite difference of opinions on a public forum - no need for any one to jog anywhere Grin

ChevalierTialys · 23/05/2018 12:26

@Lethaldrizzle

I suppose it depends on how you play it. I've never once murdered a prostitute (on purpose anyway, I do try to drive sensibly). And as for it causing families problems - the children shouldn't be playing it, it's for adults. Mine certainly don't, nor do we play it when they're around (it's an after-bedtime activity, as are so many other things).

Also, I've been gaming since the 90's and don't appear to be socially, psychologically or emotionally impaired.

KlutzyDraconequus · 23/05/2018 12:28

no need for any one to jog anywhere

I cant jog.. my.legs are fucked from.too long sat on my fat arse killing hookers... And damn well enjoying it too...

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 23/05/2018 12:30

I love the GTA series. My other favourite series are:

Mass Effect, even Andromeda. (Shepard is a Lady Badass)
Witcher 3
Uncharted (I love Nathan Drake)
Dragon Age. (Loghain Mac Tir is fave character)
Saints Row (Johnny Gat is awesome)
The Sims 3 (Even though I've modded the shit out of it. Sims 4 was shit)
