Curious as to why there seems to be so much negativity towards her? I genuinely know nothing about her.

Is it just jealousy?

OP posts:
Battleax · 20/05/2018 11:34

I think you mean “stole”

She doesn’t want to discuss it. —She’s hungover— Hmm

BertrandRussell · 20/05/2018 11:35

"The ones calling ‘racism’ every 5 minutes are the only ones here focusing on colour and it is downright offensive"

Grin I do love this. If only people would stop drawing attention to racism it would cease to exist!

Trooperslane2 · 20/05/2018 11:36

*I don't even know what people mean by "fake".

Usually they use it about someone prettier, slimmer and more popular than them.

Just sayin'*

^This.

Grow up girls - and why so invested?

And why so insecure that you're jealous of someone more successful than you? Assuming she is? And how you define success in your sad little world.

Loyaultemelie · 20/05/2018 11:38

I'm not a fan at all of the RF (not since 1485) but I actually really do like Harry and I think he seems genuinely happy with Meghan. I don't get why people are so against her at all for a good shake up for the RF seems a good thing to me, embracing someone who is American, mixed race and most of all outspoken can only show they are moving forwards. Most of all Harry who hasn't always toed the party line finally has someone and I genuinely wish them well.

BuntyII · 20/05/2018 11:41

I think for a lot of the British public, they feel a bit protective of the Princes after watching them walk behind their mums coffin at her funeral. So no one was every going to be good enough for William or Harry.

lizzie1970a · 20/05/2018 11:43

"Ass or Arse? As the former is an American term, " - no, Ghanagirl, ass is also a British word as in "silly ass".

I'm in the camp of thinking she's fake and no, it's not because she partly black. Those two thoughts can be separated. It's dangerous saying people can't criticise black people because they're black.

RJnomore1 · 20/05/2018 11:44

Just reading through.

Re the mums/kids wellfor at least one of them the husband was best man so totally unable to look after the tinies.

I like Meghan. I'm sure she doesn't give a shit I do but I prefer her to kate. She's possibly the Sarah ferguson of this royal generation but then when you see how fond Andrew and Sarah still are of each other and how well they did with their girksxdespite the divorce that's not a bad thing. I also think she's less naive than fergie was. But she does seem to be marmite.

She had a lovely fun wedding and I'm sure they genuinely love each other. That's all that matters really.

Yes that’s exactly what I’m saying Hmm

The thread is called ‘to ask why there’s so much hate for MM?’ People have answered with varied reasons. They’re allowed to share a different opinion to others. Posters like you then bringing everything down to race is pathetic.

AskAuntLydia · 20/05/2018 11:48

I think for a lot of the British public, they feel a bit protective of the Princes after watching them walk behind their mums coffin at her funeral. So no one was every going to be good enough for William or Harry.

And another mumsnetter who has appointed herself the mother in law of Harry's bride.

WTF.

Re "fake" I always wonder how people who don't actually know someone, can declare with such confidence that they are fake.

Seriously? How do you know? How can you be so implacably confident that you know someone well enough to be able to tell from the telly and the Daily Mail photos, that someone is "fake"?

afishnotabird · 20/05/2018 11:50

William and Kate were together for a long time before engagement and marriage, so we thought of them as together. Harry and Meghan were "are they/aren't they" for maybe a year before all of a sudden they are and they're engaged and now they're married in a short space of time. I think this has something to do with it.

For me, I really disliked Rachel in Suits (and Suits for that matter) and struggle to separate the two

AskAuntLydia · 20/05/2018 11:50

Posters like you then bringing everything down to race is pathetic.

To be fair, I don't think anyone's bringing everything down to race.

Most of it is just the usual misogyny. Race is an extra dimension here, but probably quite a small one for most people on MN.

Of course it's a much bigger dimension for people on some other forums.

MrsDilber · 20/05/2018 11:50

I haven't seen any race hate online or anywhere, it's so easy to throw in the race card. I've see people saying she doesn't seem sincere, like she's acting, maybe she has been on the rare occasions we've seen her, but she's different privately.

I tell you one thing, it would be tough to join the RF, I wouldn't want it.

AskAuntLydia · 20/05/2018 11:54

Harry and Meghan were "are they/aren't they" for maybe a year before all of a sudden they are

Were they?

How do you know that?

I have no knowledge whatsoever of the progress of anyone's relationship behind closed doors and I'm not willing to believe the reports of the media regarding other people's relationships.

Most of us can be surprised by things we find out about people we actually know and talk to. Why are some people so convinced they know anything at all about anyone's relationship apart from their own?

roseblossom75 · 20/05/2018 11:55

I haven't seen any hate at all.
Everyone is supporting her.

JelliedFeels · 20/05/2018 11:55

How can you be so implacably confident that you know someone well enough to be able to tell from the telly and the Daily Mail photos, that someone is "fake"?

How can you be so confident that someone isn’t?

It’s opinion. We’re allowed one without being called racist/crazy appointed MIL/anti-feminist/anti-American/etc.

AskAuntLydia · 20/05/2018 11:55

it's so easy to throw in the race card

Um, when people use expressions like the race card, it makes them sound like casual racists. Just so you know. I'm sure you don't mean to sound like a casual racist.

BertrandRussell · 20/05/2018 11:58

"I do love this. If only people would stop drawing attention to racism it would cease to exist!

Yes that’s exactly what I’m saying hmm"

Good. Glad you've seen that now.

SoupDragon · 20/05/2018 11:59

William and Kate were together for a long time before engagement and marriage, so we thought of them as together.

And yet there was still a lot of hate and bile spouted about Kate.

AskAuntLydia · 20/05/2018 11:59

"How can you be so implacably confident that you know someone well enough to be able to tell from the telly and the Daily Mail photos, that someone is "fake"?

How can you be so confident that someone isn’t?"

I can't. Which is why I don't have an opinion on whether M is fake or not. I don't know the woman. I only know what the media tells me about her and I know that the mainstream media is racist and misogynist, so I will reserve my judgement until I actually know Meghan quite well. Given that I'll never meet her, I think I'll probably never know whether she's fake or not.

lizzie1970a · 20/05/2018 12:00

"Um, when people use expressions like the race card, it makes them sound like casual racists." that's just bullshit.

And my opinion isn't just based on the DM and the telly. The humanitarian stuff was exaggerated. There's hardly anything to be found. A few photo ops and speeches - one of which she blew her own trumpet so hard (something about looking up to see Banki Moon leading the standing ovation). Anyone that is a true humanitarian doesn't seek publicity for it. They're quietly working on it in the background. It's in her body language which is so studied and unnatural. Lots of things but carry on thinking it's to do with racism.

C8H10N4O2 · 20/05/2018 12:00

it's so easy to throw in the race card

Yes absolutely. That is why Western countries are full of poor downtrodden white folks being trampled over by the rich, uppity BAMEs.

afishnotabird · 20/05/2018 12:01

Ask I mean in the media, which is the only way we find out about this sort of thing. Had it been confirmed to us for a time before engagement, it might have given the public time to settle.

I obviously don't know anything about their private life, nor do I pretend to.

C8H10N4O2 · 20/05/2018 12:02

And yet there was still a lot of hate and bile spouted about Kate

Yes I recall lots of bitching about her being a common gold digger, her parents being common (her father went to public school) her "doors to manual" mother.

Now suddenly she is sainted because there is a new target in town.

MrsDilber · 20/05/2018 12:03

Fortunately, I don't give a flying fuck what you think of me. I know I'm not, you think I am (slow claps) you're so bright!!!

postcardsfrom · 20/05/2018 12:10

The negativity I have seen has either been openly racist and/or xenophobic because she’s a yank. But that’s it.
