Royal wedding outfits (because they are the best bit!)

Without being bitchy about actual physical attributes, who looked great and who didn't quite make the grade?

I thought the bride's mother's outfit was lovely. Amal Clooney's yellow dress looked fab. Pippa Middleton's dress was v pretty. I liked Victoria beckham's too. Some lovely hats here:

But Eugenie and Beatrice bless them both seem to have gone for quite unflattering dresses in my personal opinion. They are young, slim, pretty, have lovely shiny hair and have an unlimited budget - how do they manage to get the dresses wrong?!

Eugenie was going for a JackieO look which made her look frumpy and matronly I thought. The high neck and short sleeves across the bosom area added to the width.
Poor old Beatrice looked she was covered in plastic baubles, or water bottle plastic caps, and her Alice band hat didn’t hide her laughing during the American minister’s speech, so she looked rude giggling away!

Victoria Beckham looked hungry and like a creature of the night in her cape.

Amal looked fantastic, as did Oprah, Doria and Kate.
I also like the purple dress mrs Spencer wore, but felt it was a bit ‘cold weather’/ autumnal.

Pippa looked lovely and perfect for her changing body.

Zara also got it right .... she was feeling the pressure of late pregnancy I’d say and it was lovely to see her DH being so attentive to her. I hope they had a cushion for her.

I liked the colour, the florals and the light fabrics. Some of the hats were just rudely large when everyone wants to see.

I liked almost all the outfits. I loved Amal's dress and the one the Timeless actress wore

I actually thought the Timeless actress looked like she was in character. I was just chatting with my son about how maybe they were covertly filming an episode and we would see her in one where they had to go to this time to save someone at the wedding.

LetsGoBitches · 19/05/2018 17:06

Ya I agree, Serena looked stunning. Loved her hair too.

SubtitlesOn · 19/05/2018 17:07

Fergie had taken off a glove to get the invitation out of her clutch bag, the other glove is in her hand

All the women wearing gloves took off their glove to get the invitation out, I don't understand why it is strange Hmm

SubtitlesOn · 19/05/2018 17:09

Does anybody know what Elton John's glasses had written on them?

NinonDeLenclos · 19/05/2018 17:09

I liked Carey Mulligan's and James Blunt's wife (Sofia Wellseley) the best.

Also Kitty Spencer's emerald green hat.

Amal Clooney looked stunning but I didn't really like the colour.

Someone may have already mentioned this, (I've been moving through the thread fairly fast) but the blue polka dot ensemble that everybody likes so much was worn by Abigail Spencer. She's an actress in Suits.

Graphista · 19/05/2018 17:10

Thanks op. Looks ok very conservative but then given the criticism of her outfits over the years I don't blame her.

cleofatra · 19/05/2018 17:10

Amal Clooney looked stunning but I didn't really like the colour
No, she looked like Big Bird.

KinkyAfro · 19/05/2018 17:14

I think Carey Mulligan looked beautiful and a gorgeous dress. Didn't think much of Pippa Middleton's dress at all, very understated but not in a good way

wowfudge · 19/05/2018 17:15

That's nasty - she looked fab. Abigail Spencer's dress was lovely. Princess Eugenie needs a different neckline - a high neckline just makes her boobs look huge.

RosinaAlmaviva · 19/05/2018 17:15

Beatrice and Eugenie have the same problem I do - an hourglass figure. It's really hard to find the sweet spot between tarty and frumpy, and most mainstream fashion doesn't work at all.

I liked that colour on Beatrice. I know what Eugenie was going for, but it didn't come off because physically she's more of a Marilyn than a Jackie. Her engagement photo dress, by contrast, was perfect (and I almost never like Erdem).

The media are annoying me, going on about Sarah Ferguson only wearing one glove. She didn't come on purpose with one glove, she was holding the other one. It's like they were deprived of their lawful prey because she didn't turn up in something outrageous, so they have to find something to carp about.

QueenOfTheAndals · 19/05/2018 17:16

@Frazzled2207 Blue polka dot lady is an actress called Abigail Spencer who currently stars in a rather fun time travel drama called Timeless.

halfwitpicker · 19/05/2018 17:17

Eugenie and Beatrice failed once again. Not sure how they managed it really.

Loved Meg's dress.

Jessica Mulroney looked incredible, awesome colour.

Princess Charlotte was on the money, felt sorry a bit for George in black.

George and Amal looked a cut above, as usual.

MrsJayy · 19/05/2018 17:17

Joss Stone was nice with her floral but she was chewing gum and it put me in a bit of a mood with her 😁 I thought Lady Louise Windsors outfit was nice and not to old or frumpy for her. Are we allowed to wonder why Victora Beckham was wearing a cloak ?

mydogisthebest · 19/05/2018 17:17

Cleofatra, I agree the Timeless actress did look a bit like she was in character but I really liked her dress. It was very stylish (I think 40's and 50's fashions are so much classier than most of today's)

cleofatra · 19/05/2018 17:18

mydogisthebest Yes indeed, I liked it!

mydogisthebest · 19/05/2018 17:19

Who was the woman who had that caped dress? My DH said "Oh here comes batman". Is she an actress from Suits?

MrsJayy · 19/05/2018 17:22

I don't know my Beatrice from my Eugenie's Blush but I liked the Princess in the purple dress it was nice.

SchrodingersCaterpillar · 19/05/2018 17:22

Why was Princess Anne wearing one of Hugh Heffner’s dressing gowns?

wowfudge · 19/05/2018 17:24

The purple caped dress was Earl Spencer's current wife I believe.

MissBartlettsconscience · 19/05/2018 17:24

I liked the top half of Amal's dress but it looked really baggy and bulgy over her hips so I wondered if she'd lost loads of weight.

I loved Gina Torres' dress but she's amazing in firefly and about 18 foot tall so would look gorgeous in anything.

I thought the strong colours looked good - there was a polo player's wife who looked amazing in dark turquoise, Jessica Mulroney's dress was lovely and the fuschia bridesmaids Mum dress was a gorgeous colour.

There were a lot of women wearing pink if beige high neck fitted dresses which all looked s but rigid and uncomfortable like james corden's wife. Hopefully they weren't uncomfortable...

mydogisthebest · 19/05/2018 17:25

No not purple caped dress it was more of a mustard colour

finks100 · 19/05/2018 17:29

I liked most of the dresses, I really thought it was a beautiful wedding.
My top picks would be; Amal was stunning, James Blunt’s wife, Sophie, Meghan’s Mum, the Suits girls, the Spencer girls, Serena Williams...too many to mention!

SenecaFalls · 19/05/2018 17:29

I think Gina Torres's dress might be my overall favorite.

Her clothes in Suits are something to see as well.
