Royal wedding outfits (because they are the best bit!)

Without being bitchy about actual physical attributes, who looked great and who didn't quite make the grade?

I thought the bride's mother's outfit was lovely. Amal Clooney's yellow dress looked fab. Pippa Middleton's dress was v pretty. I liked Victoria beckham's too. Some lovely hats here:

But Eugenie and Beatrice bless them both seem to have gone for quite unflattering dresses in my personal opinion. They are young, slim, pretty, have lovely shiny hair and have an unlimited budget - how do they manage to get the dresses wrong?!

Worst were these 3
Benitta Litt - hideous pink saggy sleeves
Sarah Parker Bowles - blue velvet- what was she thinking!
Girlfriend of Idris Elba - wore a Gucci cardigan/jacket that looked like an air hostess outfit and very matronly

Best were
Kitty Spencer - beautiful dress and beautiful accessories
Abigail Spencer - very 40s and beautifully accessorised navy and white polka dot
Pink dress with bow sleeves
Cressida Bonas striped dress- great colours

I hope the crushed velvet trend disappears next year SPB looks like she became one it's victims. Tight velvet rarely looks good on anyone, especially in summery weather!

Princess B’s dress cost £12000! Not sure how true this is.

Beatrice is not conventionally beautiful, but none-the-less has some very attractive features, and very beguiling eyes and gorgeous hair. So why does she never play to her strengths? The dress would have looked great but it doesn't flatter her as well as it could do. Surely they must have personal stylists? Direct access to designers? I think she looked nice, but could have been very fetching with the right dress.

Roussette · 25/05/2018 07:27

Beatrice has more money than sense, I thought the dress was a montrosity!

JessieMcJessie · 25/05/2018 07:30

I think Bea looks lovely in that pic where she’s walking beside her father. And interesting toreas that she had the dress dyed from original blush pink: that teal goes really nicely with her colouring. It’s a shame the weather was so good as it’s all a bit heavy but nonetheless she looks nice. Eugenie was just a bit meh though.

Roussette · 25/05/2018 07:35

I just feel that the dress wore her, as opposed to her wearing the dress. She has a fabulous figure with a tiny waist, the dress overpowered her. And it was fussy with all those bits on it. But everyone to their own!

Agree with you on all those. Interesting that Benita, Serena Williams and Oprah all
Went for that dusky pink colour that looks good on no-one, but is especially wasted on their beautiful dark skin. Benita was quite visible throughout as well because of the seating plan inside the chapel.

You wonder why Stella McCartney approved that colour for Oprah - if I think it's awful, can't a designed see it?

HerMajestysSecret · 25/05/2018 08:12

Sara PB is always very high-fashion. Her wedding dress was equally peculiar.

Poor Princesses Bea and Eugenie. They do know how to dress because they frequently appear at other events looking lovely (Bea at Chelsea Flower show this week, Eugenie at a Duke of Edinburgh thing yesterday). It's just the big state occasions that seem to panic them! Of all the beautiful dresses with v-necks and nipped in waists that would look amazing on her, Eugenie goes for that pale blue 50s high-neck shift that she shouldn't be within 50ft of?!!

As for Beatrice, "I'm a princess, I'm rich, I'm going to wear pom poms and beads and an enormous lampshade dress that makes me stand out from the plebs because I'm a real princess." That's the vibe I got. I could imagine Prince Andrew in the designer's studio with her egging them on and shouting "make it bigger, she's a real princess damnit!"

cherrytrees123 · 25/05/2018 10:31

Unfortunately they have their mother's dress sense, although Sarah looked great at the wedding.

RoseWhiteTips · 25/05/2018 10:38

Beatrice was trying to look like Juliet in blue. Epic fail.

RoseWhiteTips · 25/05/2018 10:39

She has gained weight again which didn’t help.

HerMajestysSecret · 25/05/2018 10:42

They get such a bad press but I think they come across very sweetly in interviews and the few engagements they do carry out.
They're always smiley and have a wave for the plebs Wink I think it's been hard for them to know what sort of role to carve out in life and they haven't been well-directed by their parents.

SamanthaBrique · 25/05/2018 11:25

Beatrice bears a strong resemblance to a young Queen Victoria but both sisters are attractive young women, as was their mother. Unfortunately the press had it in for her and would print dreadful photos of her alongside ones of Diana looking radiant.

I don't actually think Diana was as beautiful as she was made out to be but she was very charismatic and had a vulnerability about her that seemed to appeal to the public.

HerMajestysSecret · 25/05/2018 11:49

I never thought Diana was especially beautiful. She had terrible hair for a start! Look at pictures of her shortly before she died - she was 36! Same age as Kate is now but looks a decade older.

She was pretty and definitely flirtatious the way she looked at people and giggled and filtered her eyelashes. She was coy not shy, she knew just what she was doing at all times.

ajandjjmum · 25/05/2018 13:23

Not at the beginning she wasn't - but probably saw a reaction and acted up to it? I think she was genuinely shy at 19.

WittyJack · 25/05/2018 13:26

That blue velvet thing is hideous!

WittyJack · 25/05/2018 13:30

As for eugenie - this dress just makes her look twice the size she actually is:

LassWiADelicateAir · 25/05/2018 13:30

The blue velvet dress is from The Vampire's Wife range designed by Mrs Nick Cave. The style is "Festival dress"

Mrs Tom Hardy and at least one other person were wearing it but in different patterns and material.

AlbertaSimmons · 25/05/2018 13:56

Samantha and HerMajesty Diana wasn't actually particularly photogenic. In real life she was jaw-dropping. I saw her close up on several occasions in the late 80s and she was just stunning. Very very tall, athletic, unbelievable skin. I've always thought that her pics were disappointing.

RoseWhiteTips · 25/05/2018 15:05

Diana was beautiful. As for Eugenie, she is very pretty and should be a gorgeous bride, much more so than Meghan anyway.

QueenOfTheAndals · 25/05/2018 15:08

If you say so...

thecatsthecats · 25/05/2018 15:20

Alberta - what picture would you say was close to representing Diana's looks then?

Because growing up being mostly unaware and seeing pictures, all I see is a woman who at best, wasn't flattered by the styles of the day, and at worst, although striking, was decidedly not a beauty as such.

I genuinely don't see how she'd rank as beautiful next to your Angelina Jolies, your Elizabeth Taylors, Marilyn Monroes.

I am honestly only saying this because there is a massive disconnect for me between the images and what people say about her.
